Community health nurses practice in a variety of settings. The purpose of this paper is to describe the community setting and analyze the role of a nurse in the assigned setting. Health promotion nursing interventions and a professional nursing organization related to this role will also be examined. 

The topic for this paper is the role of a nurse in a faith community setting.

1. The  community health setting for this paper must be a faith community such as a church/parish, or other congregation. 

2. Read the chapter of your textbook on the assigned community health setting and take notes based on the outline below.

3. Locate and read at least one scholarly peer-reviewed journal article that is not assigned in the course related to a nurse’s role in health promotion in this setting. Search peer reviewed journals to find a scholarly article on this topic. The article must be less than 10 years old (less than 5 years is best).

4. Thoroughly address the following categories using the APA Template that is provided.

· Introduction (one paragraph):

o The introduction should be interesting and capture the reader’s attention.

o Introduce the assigned community setting 

o Briefly identify CHN role(s) in this setting

o Identify vulnerable population(s) served in this setting

o Include a purpose statement

· Community Setting (two to three paragraphs)

o Describe the assigned community setting, including vulnerable population(s) served.

o Discuss three health services provided by the a CHN in the assigned setting.

o Use your textbook or an outside scholarly source to address these sub-points.

· Health Promotion Nursing Intervention (two to three paragraphs) 

o Describe in detail health promotion intervention(s) that a CHN could implement in the assigned community setting.

o Identify people/organizations/community members this CHN role may collaborate with in health promotion interventions.

o Utilize at least one peer-reviewed scholarly article related to a health promotion intervention.

· Professional Nursing Organization (two paragraphs)

o Provide a detailed description of a professional nursing organization related to the assigned community setting. Search the text, your article, or the Internet for one professional organization that supports nurses in this role. If you can’t find an organization specific to this group, search the American Nurses Association (ANA) website for information on this role. Cite the organization in the body of the text with (organization name, year), and include a complete reference on the reference page.

o Discuss one professional issue that this organization is addressing related to the assigned community setting.

· Summary (one paragraph)

The summary reiterates key points about:

o The community setting and the CHN role(s)

o Health promotion intervention

o Professional organization

o Includes a concluding statement.

· Reference Page: The reference page should start on a new page (insert a page break). According to Chinn and Kramer (2014), personal knowing is a process of Self-knowing that is conscious; it is developed deliberately to know fully who you are and to understand your actions and relationships. Personal knowing allows you to take past experiences and reflect on that to develop yourself into a better person to more adequately care for patients. Personal knowing is not just internal reflection of also how people perceive you through your actions. In order to develop personal knowing you can ask the questions “Do I do what I know?” and Do I know what I do?” This allows the person to recognize and hold themselves accountable for providing the best, unbiased care.

A professional strength that I possess would be that I have a great attention to detail when it comes to patient care and my job. When it come to patient assessment, I can quickly notice a change in condition or behavior. I pay attention to a patient’s appearance such as grooming, edema to extremities, or gait. My co-workers always say, “Jen doesn’t miss anything!” My second professional strength is that I strive to be the best at what I am doing. I want to go the extra mile to do what is right for the patient and the people I work with. I do not want to be told twice or reminded on how to do something. When I work in the recovery room, I know what the doctor’s preferences are in caring for the patient.

My first weakness and biggest downfall is that I am critical. I put a lot of pressure on myself and other people to do things correctly. This is something that I continuously must check myself on. Just because it isn’t my way doesn’t mean that it isn’t being done correctly. I have found that through my work and personal experience that if you are constantly picking at someone, they may just give up! My second weakness is that I am not very confident. When I feel insecure and unsure about myself or my skills, I try to talk myself out of it. I clam up in uncomfortable situations.

Benner’s model of skill acquisition theory helps to improve my confidence and attention to detail. My base knowledge and experience help to provide me with the confidence boost that I need. According to McEwen and Wills (2014), expertise develops when the clinician tests and refines propositions, hypotheses, and principle-based expectations in actual practice situations.  I know that in my current position, I am an expert. This makes me feel comfortable that I am making the right decisions for my patients. This can also apply to my weakness of criticism. A novice nurse may not seek advice from me if I am constantly critical of them and their work.

Part one:

Peplau was the first nursing theorist to identify the nurse–patient relationship as being central to all nursing care. Peplau valued knowledge, believing that the nurse must possess extensive knowledge about the potential problems that emerge during a nurse–patient interaction. Assignment Overview

There have been many cases of violations of ethical principles in medical and public health history. It is important to study these and understand not only what went wrong, but the implications of a failure to follow ethical principles, to ensure that these things do not happen again.

Case Assignment

For this assignment, you will be creating a PowerPoint presentation. Three cases are listed below. For each case, you will provide a background and then apply at least the 4 basic ethical principles reviewed thus far in the course; you may research and apply additional ones. For each principle, explain why it was violated in this case. If you do not believe that the principle was violated, explain why. This should not be opinion, but should be your analysis of the cases and the principles; do not use first person.
Your slides should be in presentation format and your text should be in your speaker’s notes. You must include speaker’s notes. Remember to cite your sources.

You will need to research the cases below. Be sure that you are using reliable sources for your information; peer-reviewed articles, academic books, government web pages and documents. You may use newspaper articles, but these should not be your principle and only source to discuss an individual case.
