As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, it is essential for you to have a strong background in foundational neuroscience. In order to diagnose and treat patients, you must not only understand the pathophysiology of psychiatric disorders but also how medications for these disorders impact the central nervous system. These concepts of foundational neuroscience can be challenging to understand. Therefore, this Discussion is designed to encourage you to think through these concepts, develop a rationale for your thinking, and deepen your understanding by interacting with your colleagues. 

For this Discussion, review the Learning Resources and reflect on the concepts of foundational neuroscience as they might apply to your role as the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner in prescribing medications for patients. 

Post a response to each of the following:

1. Explain the agonist-to-antagonist spectrum of action of psychopharmacologic agents, including how partial and inverse agonist functionality may impact the efficacy of psychopharmacologic treatments.

• Scenario: A company called Colony Nursery and Landscaping opened a new store located a few hundred miles away from its original location. The company wants to implement an award system that awards their customers with points whenever customers make a purchase, but the two stores are not able to share information. Colony Nursery and Landscaping will need to implement an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system that will solve the information silo problem by collecting and making this user data available. Colony Nursery and Landscaping is hoping that by providing customers with this award system, they will be able to maintain competitive advantage. Colony Nursery and Landscaping cannot afford to purchase, develop, or maintain this system on-site, so they are investigating cloud solutions.
  In addition, for many organizations, Colony Nursery and Landscaping included, information silos make it difficult to tap into needed information. Discuss whether or not the problem of information silos can be solved by using the cloud. Some organizations do not have the resources to construct or maintain their computer infrastructure, so they utilize cloud services instead to reduce costs and improve scalability. In this assignment, you will discuss whether or not the cloud offers solutions for Colony Nursery and Landscaping and identify an application that the ERP system could provide. Compose an essay that includes the elements listed below.
  • Define what an information silo is.
  • Explain why information silos are a problem for organizations.
  • Discuss why organizations are moving to the cloud.

Communication strategies: To communicate EBP to the hospital board, I would request 5-10 mins of their time on one of their meeting days to present my findings using narratives with message framing. Narrative as a communication strategy helps with better processing of information, increasing persuasiveness of the message being presented “people become transported into a situation that can enhance emotions, attitudes and behaviors”. I will frame my message to emphasize the benefits of my project proposal and highlighting what could be gained or lost based on choices made. (Communication and Dissemination strategies to Facilitate the use of Healthcare-Related Evidence, 2013). However, it is important to keep the story short, simple and precise so as not to bore them or lose their interest with unnecessary details.

For the nursing organization, being a member would be very helpful in gaining access to effective communication of EBP. I could deliver my message via print or internet if not opportuned to present in person. I would make an outline, create a thesis statement with sequential organization of the main ideas, use “proper writing convention (grammer, mechanics, punctuations and spelling)”, and would reference all sources of my information. There are numerous ways of disseminating the results/findings of an evidence-based project.  My topic requires quite a bit of funding so I would choose to present the EBP idea to my hospital board of trustees.  The hospital board is responsible for overseeing decisions to ensure that the hospital’s best interests are considered.  Since they are stakeholders, it is critical that the hospital is doing everything possible to ensure the best possible care resulting in the best possible outcomes- and that is at the heart of EBP changes.  They are also very involved in the financial decision making and since I will need them to assist with finding funds for my project, this is the best place to start to make my case for safety changes.

For this assignment, perform a complete head-to-toe assessment on one of your chosen participants. Your analysis should include the following:

· Topical headings to delineate systems.

· For any system for which you do not have equipment, explain how you would do the assessment.

· Detailed review of each system with normal and abnormal findings, along with normal laboratory findings for client age.

The American Nurses Association determines scopes and standards of practice and implements them for all nurses. These scopes and standards are universal guidelines for all specialties (ANA, 2015).When developing standards and scopes, leaders in specialty nursing organizations begin by asking six key questions:

2. “What?Explain the unique contributions of generalist and advanced practice registered nurses.”

The Oregon Nurse Practice Act consists of Oregon Revised Statutes, chapter 678.010-678.445 (laws) and Oregon Administrative Rules, chapter 851 (rules). Any revisions are made by the Oregon State Legislature. There are in-person board meetings where the rule making occurs and rule divisions undergo periodic review (OSBN, n.d.).

The standards of practice influence my nursing practice by offering a guideline and special parameters for practicing safe care. I have the responsibility to follow these standards not only for safe patient care, but to embody professionalism and satisfy the expectations of the entity I work for. These standards are also ways to measure my competency as a nurse as long as I am practicing within my scope of practice.
