Nursing 2023 DQ2 1 RESPONSE

Re Topic 2 DQ 1 Workplace violence in the health industry is greater than any other sector of employment 2023 Assignment

Re: Topic 2 DQ 1  Workplace violence in the health industry is greater than any other sector of employment, in fact the Federal Bureau of Statistics reports that violence in the healthcare is “3.8 times higher than all of private industry.” (Wolfe, 2018) In fact, the National Nurses United, the largest union of registered nurses reported workplace violence rates increased by 110% from 2005 to 2014. Examples of workplace violence include direct physical assaults (with or without weapons), written or verbal threats, physical or verbal harassment, and homicide (Occupational Safety and Health Administration OSHA, 2015). Nurses in the Emergency Room are at greatest risk for violence. Three out of four nurses routinely experience acts of verbal and physical violence, including, hitting, kicking, yelling and cursing from patients and visitors according to the January 2015 issue Journal of Emergency Nursing.  Statistically violence in emergency rooms is on the rise, however, our organization has specifically seen a drastic increase of violence in the emergency room. Long wait times due to failing healthcare systems, patients suffering from mental health issues and substance abuse are contributing factors. Law enforcement in our county readily bring patients who are altered on drugs or suffering from mental health issues to our facility because other hospitals mental health services have shrunk or they have removed the programs their services and other hospitals require them to stay with the patient while we readily accept them and dismiss the officers, making our hospital the easier and more time efficient option for them. Because of the growing higher population of older adults in our specific area due to several large senior living communities and long term care/rehab facilities within the vicinity of our campus, we see a large number of patients that suffer from situations and diseases that alter the mental status of the individual.  The implications are devastating. Nurses who experience violence in the workplace often suffer emotional, psychological, physical and professional consequences. Nurses often experience symptoms of post-traumatic stress after a violent incident. They may avoid talking about the event, have flashbacks, feel fearful angry, frustrated or helpless, they may also avoid patients or situations that may trigger all of these feelings. Nurses lose cognitive focus after a violent event. (Gillespie et al, 2010). Workplace violence is very costly. It is estimated that it costs billions of dollars a year. (Higazee and Rayan, 2017). Not to mention loss of work for the professional due to injury. Some nurses choose to leave the profession all together.  Busby,G. ( Jan, 2017). Incidence and Costs of Workplace Violence. Reply1 My topic of choice is Not speaking up when unethical practices become evident One of the strategies I used 2023 Assignment

Reply1

My topic of choice is “Not speaking up when unethical practices become evident”. One of the strategies I used is typing “not speaking up and unethical practices”. This search yielded specific articles and books that I can use in both the web and West Coast library. In the West Coast library, to further narrow my results, I simply clicked on the filters such as if I want articles or books or if I want it peer-reviewed, which is one of the most important search features because it gives me articles that have been evaluated by members of our profession. This gives articles more credibility.

Reply2

The topic I chose to discuss is: Exhibiting poor quality in performance and apathy in goal attainment. This sounds like a very interesting topic which I would like to explore more. In the West Coast Library search field, I used Boolean operators and entered “and” as the specific terms so that I am able to decrease results to ensure I narrow down my choices. I searched “Exhibiting poor quality performance and goal attainment”, I could also have used “or “to find alternative terms if needed to increase my choices.  It was more difficult when entering “or”, for this specific topic.

I will choose a peer reviewed article as these articles are scientific journals and have meaningful research. I am interested in exploring accurate conclusions.

2023 1 Telling teenagers not to do something can sometimes have the reverse effect

Nursing 2023 please answer base in this answer in APA format .Write at least 250 words , please answer the comments by number and list your answers please, thank you

1 Telling teenagers not to do something can sometimes have the reverse effect 2023 Assignment

1-Telling teenagers not to do something can sometimes have the reverse effect of what we wish to happen. Instead of telling teenagers to not have sex, even though we want them to refrain from it because of the risks of infection and pregnancies, it is more important to educate them on how to have safe sexual intercourse and how to effectively use methods of contraceptives. It is better to work with teenagers instead of against them.

2-I agree with you about African American teens still have the highest pregancy in USA and they are facing greatest risk for preeclampsia, low birth weight infant, and preterm delivery.  Unfortunately, these teens were born to teen moms as well and their vicious cycle doesn’t seem to end.  They lack parental supports, no desire to be educated, and drop out of high school and work at lower paying job inconsistently.  Kids born to teen moms usually grow without their father as well and being a teen mom seems almost normal to these young girls growing looking at their young mom without any role modles guiding them to the right way.

3-. It’s amazing and sad how poverty can have negative impact on so many things. Socio-economic circumstances seem to play a major role in rates of teen pregnancy. Throughout the developed world, teenage pregnancy is more common among young people who have been disadvantaged in childhood and have low expectations of education or the job market.  The literature shows that youth living in poverty have a teen pregnancy rate which is five times the average. For some disadvantaged youth, particularly for girls whose self-esteem tends to drop as they mature, sexuality may be all they have to value. Lack of opportunity and hope for the future, have been identified as a driving force behind high rates of teen pregnancy.

Answer all of the following questions using headers to separate topics.

  1. Attack or defend the following statement and then explain what you would do, in concrete terms, to improve things in your involvement or what you have observed. “It seems that the people behind the new computerized systems perceive that the people who work here and the roles they play are to make the computer’s job easier as opposed to the systems being here to help transform average healthcare workers into super workers.”
  2. It has been argued that getting nursing involved in the implementation of all of the computer systems in healthcare is a good thing, but doing that is in conflict with current patient care and the reality that many nurses are uncomfortable with some of the changes they see and would rather not be involved. To what extend does this resonate with your personal experience? What do you believe are the key prerequisites that must be addressed before enough of the right nurses and other key role players in the healthcare process and what concrete steps would you recommend to address these and why?
  3. Chapter 5 in the text provides a perspective for implementing Clinical Information Systems. From your experience, what are the more critical issues or concerns you have with the material presented in this chapter and what would you advocate should be done to improve the likelihood that such projects would be successful. (You can address technical issues, skill issues, change and fear issues, as well as business and/or leadership issues.)
  4. Chapter 6 focuses on the Electronic Medical Records and physician adoption and utilization. Reflect on your experiences with physicians and other key, scarce, and therefore costly healthcare professionals. How well do you believe these professionals would react to the kinds of changes and approaches covered in the chapter. Have the authors done a good job addressing the really key issues and concerns? If not what did they miss? To what extend do you believe what is advocated would work in your environment or healthcare facilities with which you are familiar? Sketch what you might propose be done differently, if anything.

2023 Introduction Determining Toxicity Toxicity is determined by the following Observing people during normal use or accidental

Nursing 2023 Select at least two peer-reviewed articles about your chosen toxin to read carefully. Create a 3-4-page analysis of the toxin’s impact on human health.

Introduction Determining Toxicity Toxicity is determined by the following Observing people during normal use or accidental 2023 Assignment

  • Introduction
    Determining Toxicity
Toxicity is determined by the following:
    • Observing people during normal use or accidental exposure.
    • Experimental studies using animals.
    • Cellular studies.
    • Toxins can be divided into categories based on their potential harm to humans.
    • Carcinogens are substances known to cause cancer.
    • Endocrine disruptors are agents that bind with hormones, blocking their normal function.
    • Teratogens are agents that cause malformation of a fetus through the mother.
    • Toxicologists are scientists who study toxins. They determine whether the toxins have any harmful effects on the environment or the human body. Toxicologists often describe toxins as either hazardous or poisonous. Hazardous substances are substances having the capacity to do harm. Poisonous substances are able to kill, injure, or impair living things with a small dose.
      Assessing Risk
After determining that a substance is toxic, toxicologists and other scientists create risk assessment models. Risk assessment involves considering four steps:
    • Identification of the hazard and its potential health effects.
    • Dose-response (amount of pollutant to which a person is exposed).
    • Mode of exposure (inhalation, ingestion, absorption, and injection).
    • Determination of overall risk based on dose response and exposure.
    • Cost-benefit analysis can be used to determine if a risk should be taken, and what strategies can be used to regulate and control the risk. In some cases, after a risk assessment, a risk can be determined as unavoidable.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is a government agency created in 1972 to address some products that have presented an unreasonable risk of injury. The CPSC requires safety labels, recalls hazardous products, and enforces bans upon them.
      Accidents
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (2014), more than 400 Americans die each day due to injuries caused by accidents. In fact, most people experience a significant injury at least once in their lifetime (Hilgenkamp, 2006). Although, not all accidents can be avoided; understanding where the risks are and taking steps to avoid them is important to protecting our health.
Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death in individuals between 1 and 44 years of age (CDC, 2006). The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is charged with increasing safety on the roads by writing and enforcing safety laws. Seat belts, safety seats for children, airbags, and anti-lock brakes are just some of the devices that can make traveling in a motor vehicle safer. We can reduce our risk of a motor vehicle accident by following traffic laws, and always considering what is prudent based on the driving conditions.
Accidents can also occur when we are in our homes. Common occurrences involve falls, poisonings, accidental shootings, fires, and power equipment. Young children are particularly at risk, which is why child-proofing a home is very important. Cabinets with toxic materials, medicines, and guns should be locked. Matches and lighters should be kept in a safe place.
      OSHA
Concerns of hazards in the workplace led to the development of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). OSHA’s mission is to prevent injuries and protect the health of United States workers by ensuring safe and healthful places to work (United States Department of Labor, n.d.). The major areas of concern in the workplace are air contaminants (dust, fibers, gases, and vapors), and physical (temperature, noise, and radiation), biological (pathogens), and chemical (inhaled, absorbed, ingested, or injected) issues.

    • Link: Integrate and combine information from the source articles and your personal experience to your main point or idea.
    • Additional Requirements
Use the APA Paper Template (linked in Resources: Toxins) to format your analysis.
    • Written Communication: Written communication should be free of errors that detract from the overall message.
    • Length: This analysis should be 3–4 pages in content length. Include a separate title page and a separate references page.
    • Font and Font Size: Times New Roman, 12-point, double-spaced. Use Microsoft Word.
    • APA Formatting: Resources and in-text citations should be formatted according to the current APA style and formatting.
    • Number of Resources: You are required to cite a minimum of 2 scholarly resources. You may conduct independent research for resources and references to support your analysis. Provide a reference list and in-text citations for all your resources, using APA format. You may cite texts and authors from the Resources.
    • The purpose of this assessment is for you to learn how to summarize and critically evaluate a scientific paper on environmental toxins.

Nursing 2023 DISCUSSION 2

Discussion Where in the World Is Evidence Based Practice March 21 2010 was not EBP s date 2023 Assignment

Discussion: Where in the World Is Evidence-Based Practice?

March 21, 2010, was not EBP’s date of birth, but it may be the date the approach “grew up” and left home to take on the world.
When the Affordable Care Act was passed, it came with a requirement of empirical evidence. Research on EBP increased significantly. Application of EBP spread to allied health professions, education, healthcare technology, and more. Health organizations began to adopt and promote EBP.
In this Discussion, you will consider this adoption. You will examine healthcare organization websites and analyze to what extent these organizations use EBP.
To Prepare:
Review the Resources and reflect on the definition and goal of EBP.
Choose a professional healthcare organization’s website (e.g., a reimbursing body, an accredited body, or a national initiative).
Explore the website to determine where and to what extent EBP is evident.

Post a description of the healthcare organization website you reviewed. Describe where, if at all, EBP appears (e.g., the mission, vision, philosophy, and/or goals of the healthcare organization, or in other locations on the website). Then, explain whether this healthcare organization’s work is grounded in EBP and why or why not. Finally, explain whether the information you discovered on the healthcare organization’s website has changed your perception of the healthcare organization. Be specific and provide examples.
