The Strategic Planning: SWOT Analysis assignment completed in Topic 4 helped you identify a strategic goal within your sphere of influence. This assignment asks you to visually represent the cause-and-effect relationship among goals, operations, and stakeholders. In addition, this assignment seeks to examine the impact on various operational processes within the selected organization

According to your Management textbook, a strategy map “is a visual representation of the key drivers of an organization’s success, showing the cause-and-effect relationship among goals and plans.” Refer to Exhibit 7.4 in the textbook. A strategy map seeks to align organizational goals into strategy and provide clear direction for the organization.

Review the mission statement of your selected organization. Prior to creating a strategy map, identify your stakeholders. Complete a stakeholder analysis to identify and prioritize the various stakeholders. Refer to the “Stakeholder Analysis” resource from Mindtools and complete all steps.

Based on your strategic goal, create a strategy map using Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Visio, or other software. Include only the required perspectives (financial, customer, internal, and learning and growth) that pertain to the strategic goal in your map. The cause-and-effect relationships are described by connecting arrows.

APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

Consider the quotes by Townsend and Lombardi. Since individuals first emerged to take the helm of government, organizations, and people, a major question has been what constitutes an effective leader. In other words, are the core competencies needed to lead in the healthcare field based on innate talent or on skills learned over time? Does this differ for leaders versus managers?

Following in the footsteps of Jim Collins’s seminal publication on leadership, Good to Great (HarperBusiness, 2001), Chip Caldwell & Associates followed up between 2001 and 2002 with the Good to Great in Healthcare Research Project. The group found a number of leadership qualities and skills that differentiated “good” healthcare leaders from “great” healthcare leaders. For this Assignment, you will examine what makes a leader, and complete an assessment to help you identify your strengths and weaknesses as a healthcare leader in order to identify any gaps that will help you in your career.

To prepare for this Assignment:

• Review the Learning Resources, including “‘Good to Great’ in Healthcare: How Some Organizations Are Elevating Their Performance” and the two leadership skills assessments.
• Select and complete one of the leadership assessments in your resources to determine your strengths and weaknesses related to your future career in healthcare management.
• Complete the Leadership Skills Assessment Template in your Learning Resources. (Note: Print and keep this completed template handy; you will revisit your results in Week 6.)
• Review the insights provided on your results.

2. An individual’s medical record is an accumulation of all healthcare related events in their life thus far. Discuss the components of the medical record.  What is the purpose of the medical record?  What future changes or modifications would you like to see to the medical record and why?  

3. Chapter 6 in your text outlines the Patient Self Determination Act (PDSA) of 1990, types of advance directive forms, and that AD laws and forms required, vary by state. Using the Internet, research the advance directive laws and forms required to be used in the state in which you live, identify your state and provide a summary of those laws, and copy and paste in the URL address(s) that support(s) the information in your post. Share if you do or don’t currently have a legal advance directive, and why or why not? If you so wish, you may also share if your family has had any experiences with family members being critically ill with or without advance directives and what your family would or would not do differently if a similar situation arose.

Recruiting Participants for Your EBP Proposal.

Sample Section Guidelines

This section covers your planned recruitment and ethical considerations for your future participants. It should take up about two to three pages. The purpose is to tell the reader what your recruitment plan is for the study. You should have subheadings throughout this section of the paper.

In this section, write about the following:

1. Sample: Cover the following points in no more than two paragraphs each:

– How subjects will be recruited

– What the inclusion criteria will be (for more expansion, you may add the exclusion criteria to show what was consciously eliminated)

– The type of sample (random, purposive, convenience, etc.)

– The proposed sample size and rationale for this choice

– The selection method (random table of numbers, flip a coin, etc.— this depends on the type of study)

Although this subsection should cover all these items, it may be written in a narrative style.

2. Setting: Keeping in mind that this is a proposed setting, and it should not be recognizable for confidentiality and privacy reasons. It is a broad view of the setting. For example:

The proposed setting for this study is a large teaching hospital in the northeast. The actual place where the study would be carried out is in the three medical–surgical units in this hospital. Each unit has a bed capacity of 25–30 beds with occupancy rates of 92% to 95%. The study will take place in a private conference room.

Or, if a mailed questionnaire or survey is to be used:

The proposed setting for data collection will be by mailing the questionnaire to the homes of the subjects. The researcher would be mailing the questionnaires from home with a return-addressed, stamped envelope.

3. Informed Consent and Ethical Considerations: Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval will be obtained. The researcher will submit an application and proposal to the Regis College IRB first. After approval from Regis College, the institution where the study will take place usually requires IRB approval as well. The request or application may be one of three types:

– Exempt from review: This is for studies with no intervention or may be just for a medical record review.

– Expedited review: This is for minimal risk to subjects—physical or psychological.

– Complete institutional review: This is for studies that may pose a risk to subjects.

Please address means of protecting human subjects, such as the use of pseudonyms for qualitative studies and the use of numbers to identify subjects in quantitative studies. Data storage must be addressed. Make certain that identifying data (informed consent document) is maintained in a locked file separate from de-identified data (demographics, surveys, transcripts) that also will be maintained in a locked file in the researcher’s locked office.
