• The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) has been tracking and measuring health outcomes through several different, national methods. Two of the most well know are the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) and the Health Effectiveness Data Information System (HEDIS). Both of these systems are used in physician offices. PQRS is directed toward outcomes for Medicare beneficiaries. HEDIS is used mostly in primary care physician offices. All Medicaid health plans and most employer health plans collect and use HEDIS data yearly.
• From the PQRS or HEDIS list pick one quality measure to profile in your assignment.
• Create your own infographic about this one measure that provides information about the measure and the important indicators surrounding that measure. Note what is important for the public to know about this one measure. (There is information on creating infographics in the Supplemental Resources folder).

 Details:

Write a paper (2,000-2,500 words) in which you apply the concepts of epidemiology and nursing research to a communicable disease. Refer to “Communicable Disease Chain,” “Chain of Infection,” and the CDC website for assistance completing this assignment.

Communicable Disease Selection

Choose one communicable disease from the following list:

1. Hepatitis B
2. HIV
3. Describe the communicable disease (causes, symptoms, mode of transmission, complications, treatment) and the demographic of interest (mortality, morbidity, incidence, and prevalence). Is this a reportable disease? If so, provide details about reporting time, whom to report to, etc.
4. Describe the determinants of health and explain how those factors contribute to the development of this disease.
5. Discuss the epidemiologic triangle as it relates to the communicable disease you have selected. Include the host factors, agent factors (presence or absence), and environmental factors. (The textbook describes each element of the epidemiologic triangle). Are there any special considerations or notifications for the community, schools, or general population?
6. Explain the role of the community health nurse (case finding, reporting, data collecting, data analysis, and follow-up).
7. Identify at least one national agency or organization that addresses the communicable disease chosen and describe how the organization(s) contributes to resolving or reducing the impact of disease.
8. Discuss a global implication of the disease. How is this addressed in other countries or cultures? Is this disease endemic to a particular area? Provide an example.

A minimum of three peer-reviewed or professional references is required.

Describe the statistics and trend of breast cancer worldwide and in Saudi Arabia, risk factors for breast cancer, its effect to Saudi Arabia, the role of nurses in breast cancer, the challenges they face and recommendations.

Demonstrate what breast cancer is briefly before explaining the impact and significance of breast cancer to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The research should also aim to at least demonstrate a few roles oncology nurses can play in supportive care of patients with breast cancer as well as suggest prevention roles they can implement at both the primary prevention and secondary prevention.

Use google search engine and google scholar to come up with scholarly articles.

Research work should contain relevant study topics were then taken with the exclusion criteria being the year of publication. Research papers from the year 2006 – 2017 should be referenced to.

Use APA style of reference.

Find a study published in a nursing journal in 2010 or earlier that is described a s a pilot study. Do you think the study really is a pilot study, or do you think this label was used inappropriately? Search forward for a larger subsequent study to evaluate your response.    

Discussion Rubric

The initial post will be regarding the topic of the week and will be a minimum of 250 words. Make sure you provide appropriate references and utilize APA style. 

• What are the economic costs of this health problem for society, families, and individuals?
• What are the social costs (cost in any means such as time, human resource, social burden) associated with this health problem for society and individuals?
• Use data (statistics) from credible sources to support your discussion.
• Using APA format, create a reference list citing all the sources used in writing your paper.
• Interpret and include at least one graph or table that relates to the content of your paper. You will discuss the graph or table as part of your narrative and include the graph or table in an Appendix at the end of your paper. Cite the source for the tables or graphs below each one and in the reference list using APA format.

1. Each focus paper must be written in a scholarly manner using proper APA format (6th edition).
2. Each focus paper must be at least 750 words in length. The 750 words do not include the title page, reference list or appendix.
3. Your paper should not consist of more than 10% of direct quotes. This means that in a 750-word paper, no more than 75 words can be directly quoted from a source. Points will be deducted from papers exceeding the 10% limit. Instead of quoting, paraphrase the information in your own words.
4. Your papers must be submitted as MS Office Word documents, using a 12-point font, double spaced and with page numbers upper right corner of each page.
5. In each focus paper, you must use at least three different credible, professional references to support your discussion.  Your references should be cited in-text and in a reference list using proper APA format.
6. The order of your paper should be: title page, body of your paper, reference list and appendix.
