How the Structure, Mission, and Philosophy Creates the Culture of the HSSC

            The organization that I had the pleasure of doing my Capstone practicum at was the Broward College Health Sciences Simulation Center (HSSC). The mission of this organization is to provide quality, interprofessional, experiential learning, using the best high-fidelity healthcare simulation practices. The HSSC focuses in preparing students and other healthcare professionals to be confident, compassionate, and competent in their field. This organization provides a safe and controlled environment where the faculty can offer guidance. They practice using tools, such as SBAR, that will be used in the real-world so there is a feel of better preparation.

            Healthcare system is an organization of people and resources to deliver services to meet the health needs of a targeted populations (Pina et al., 2015). This simulation center helps prepare the future healthcare professionals by guiding them through scenarios that they may come across in the field. It is such a benefit for students to come to this organization to utilize the equipment and gain knowledge and skills. Since the mission is to prepare healthcare students, while I was completing my Capstone I was able to see the relationship between the faculty and students which showed professionalism and direction. They were honoring their mission and philosophy which is to prepare these students to be safe health professionals.

Health can indeed differ between individuals depending on some factors, personally being healthy is important to me, and I strive every day to make choices that will benefit my wellbeing. When I initially started nursing school I had a tough time managing my stress, maintaining a healthy diet due to stress eating, as well as lacking physical activity due to poor time management. Being healthy is so important to me because for one I am going to be a nurse which means I am going to be educating patients on a daily basis about improving their health and well being. Also, what motivates me is reminding myself of what it felt like to not pay attention to my health and how horrible I felt every day when I did not care. Making your health a priority, in my opinion, will help you motivate others that are struggling with their health to do better, which can be done through education or even sharing a personal experience.

The QI  initiative you choose to analyze should be related to a specific  disease, condition, or public health issue of personal or professional  interest to you. The purpose of the report is to assess whether specific  quality indicators point to improved patient safety, quality of care,  cost and efficiency goals, and other desired metrics.
    Your target audience consists of nurses and other health  professionals with specializations or interest in your selected  condition, disease, or issue. In your report, you will define the  disease, analyze how the condition is managed, identify the core  performance measurements used to treat or manage the condition, and  evaluate the impact of the quality indicators on the health care  facility:

    • Analyze the benchmarks that were used to evaluate success.  Detail what was the most successful, as well as what outcome measures  are missing or could be added.
  3. Incorporate interprofessional perspectives related to initiative functionality and outcomes.      
    • Integrate the perspectives of interprofessional team members  involved in the initiative. Detail who you talked to, their professions,  and the impact of their perspectives on your analysis.
  4. Recommend additional indicators and protocols to improve and expand quality outcomes of a quality initiative.      
    • Recommend specific process or protocol changes as well as added technologies that would improve quality outcomes.
  5. Communicate evaluation and analysis in a professional and  effective manner, writing content clearly and logically with correct use  of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  6. Integrate relevant sources to support arguments, correctly formatting citations and references using current APA style.

  • Length of submission: A minimum of five but no more than seven double-spaced, typed pages.
