FINAL PROJECT | 2025 Custom Writing

For your Final Project, you will write a 5-page paper focusing on a topic that falls within the Science and Spirituality spectrum. In your paper, you will provide an overview of the topic, analyze and compare the central arguments posed by the scientific community and those posed by the religious community, and then evaluate the ways in which those topics are either able to be reconciled or need to remain separate. As a resource for your project you may use contemporary articles in journals (see the Optional Resources on the Resources page) to gain individual insights from contemporary thinkers. Make sure to include a full bibliography in APA format at the end of your paper to cite all of the sources you’ve used.Weekly milestone documents located in the Resources section of each week will help you prepare for the Final Project. These documents do not need to be turned in and will not figure into your grade. They are simply tools that you can use as you work on your project, and are designed to help you:Select an issue that figures into the ongoing discussion between Science and Spirituality (Week 1)Locate several reliable sources that are relevant to the topic you have chosen (Week 2)Review the scientific and spiritual arguments surrounding the topic you have chosen (Week 3)Reflect on the similarities and differences between the arguments, and ask yourself if there is a way in which both could be valid without excluding one or the other (Week 4)Organize your thoughts into a cohesive paper that examines and analyzes the current debate surrounding your topic (Week 5)The assignment:Compose a 5-page paper research paper (not including the Title Page and Reference Page) in which you:Identify a topic relevant to the academic field of science and spirituality.Pose an argument (claim) regarding the topic and support that claim with documented evidence.Provide a brief overview of select arguments of both scientists and spiritual thinkers related to that topic.Analyze the validity of selected arguments and determine whether the arguments could be reconciled.Include a Title Page (including a title expressing the thesis/claim) and References.Cite all sources, in proper APA format, used in your research.

Assignment 1: Cognitive Distortion | 2025

Assignment 1: Cognitive Distortion | 2025 Custom Writing

Cognitive theories emphasize the impact of thoughts on emotions and behaviors. Albert Ellis’s rational-emotive behavior therapy (REBT) involves the identification of irrational thoughts, the subsequent emotions, and the resulting behaviors using the A-B-C model. Treatment extends this to the A-B-C-D-E model, as those thoughts are disputed and alternative, more rational effects are the results:Steps in the Rational-Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) ModelAActivating an eventBBelief about the eventCEmotional and behavioral consequences of the beliefDDispute or debate the beliefENew rational effects or beliefs and new emotions and new behaviorsAaron Beck’s cognitive therapy (CT) is designed to identify dysfunctional thoughts as well; in his theory, they are referred to as “cognitive distortions.”Types of Cognitive DistortionsAll-or-nothing thinking”Should” and “must” statementsOvergeneralizationLabeling and mislabelingMental filter and selective abstractionPersonalizationDisqualifying the positiveCatastrophizingJumping to conclusions and arbitrary inferencesMind readingMagnification or minimizationTunnel visionEmotional reasoningAdapted from “Labeling the Distortion” by Seligman and Reichenberg (2014).Tasks:In a minimum of 200 words, post your responses to the following:Read the case study of Aaron. The Case of Aaron Aaron is a highly intelligent, 11-year-old son of an unemotional, overly intellectual, divorced woman who works as a mathematician at one of the Los Angeles missile and space laboratories. His father lives in another part of the country and has no contact with him. Aaron is often left home in the care of a neighbor while his mother works late or travels to professional conferences. Although Aaron is pleasant in appearance, his behavior is extremely disruptive. He runs from game to game and toy to toy in the counselor’s office, never letting the counselor help him to enjoy any one activity. He actively avoids the counselor’s offers to play. He behaves aggressively in a haphazard, unpredictable way, crying for the counselor’s attention, but becoming angry and withdrawn when she gives him some warmth. He tends to criticize his mother, often describing her as hostile and rejecting. He also criticizes his previous counselors at the clinic regarding their treatment of him. He expresses dissatisfaction with the clinic’s toys, playrooms, and lack of electronic/video games. He blames his failure to be happy on his mother, his missing father, school, or his previous counselors. He often tells the counselor that his mother does not like him. According to Aaron, his school is also bad, his teachers do not understand him, and the other kids pick on him. He reports that no one really cares about him and that he has no friends. Vocally and physically aggressive at times, he might with equal suddenness become withdrawn and almost detached from reality. He will start a game, then destroy it if he suffers even one minor setback. He walks away from outdoor play with the counselor, then returns to beg her for candy. He runs away, hides, and tries to make the counselor look for him all over the clinic. Continually begging for ice cream or for money, he becomes detached when his requests are refused. If difficult topics come up in sessions, he stops suddenly and runs, screams, or talks gibberish.Based on the case study:Identify six of the cognitive distortions listed in the table above that apply to the case study of Aaron.Cite evidence from the case for each type you identified. For each type you identified, apply the A-B-C portion of Ellis’s theory and then create a D and an E.Now, address the following questions:Is the cognitive approach a good fit for Aaron? Why or why not? What type of client is best suited for cognitive therapy (CT)?Is it most suitable for particular cultures, ages, genders, or presenting problems? Why or why not?Support your rationale and analyses by using at least two resources from professional literature in your response. Professional literature may include the Argosy University online library resources; relevant textbooks; peer-reviewed journal articles; and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu or .gov).Your discussion posts and all written assignments should reflect graduate-level writing skills and appropriate use of APA style, including in-text citations and references.

You MUST apply an appropriate ethical decision making model from Bersoff or apply another ethical decision making model which you may prefer (e.g., Canadian Psychological Association; NASP, etc.). Use the steps of the decision making model to discuss your decision making process.Tell Tale VignetteMaria is a 32 year old, Latina. Her child, Rosalinda, age 6, was referred to counseling after having been exposed to domestic violence (Maria reports having been the victim) in the home.Maria is separated from Rosalinda’s father who is the alleged perpetrator in the domestic violence. When Maria brought Rosalinda to her first evaluation session (symptoms included: nightmares, regression, easily moved to tears, clingy with Maria), Maria read and signed an informed consent form while in the waiting room. The form was fairly standard issue, citing all the usual exceptions to confidentiality. The psychology intern properly introduced herself to Maria and briefly went over the informed consent. Maria expressed understanding of and agreement with the evaluation and treatment for her daughter.Maria was the principal informant during the assessment, and the psychology intern documented in her notes that Maria reported she had started to date again. She noted that Rosalinda’s symptoms had gotten worse (for example, she is upset when left with the family babysitter). Please address the following questions:Can Rosalinda’s Dad have access to the child’s record? What about the reference to Maria starting to date – should this be documented in the record? Should Rosalinda’s father have access to this information?Explain your reasoning, referring to the appropriate rules and citing ethical guidelines (these may include the practice act, rules of board, etc.).ConfidentialityPurposeA hallmark of psychological practice is the privacy and confidentiality that psychologists must observe to protect the well-being of their clients. This session will focus on the intricacies of maintaining confidentiality and when it is required by law to be disclosed.Objectives1. Define confidentiality and its limitations and exceptions.2. Examine situations where there may be a duty to warn or protect third parties.3. Introduction to HIPAAIn most situations the law recognizes the psychologist(therapist)/patient relationship. There are exceptions. All states now have rules for reporting child abuse, most have rules for reporting elder abuse. The “Duty to Warn” (from Tarasoff) is often written into the practice act or rules of state psychology licensing boards but not in all jurisdictions. Indeed, there is no duty to warn in some jurisdictions. This is complicated, because if you follow the law a person could be harmed due to your lack of action. While there is no affirmative (must do) requirement to intervene in threat to others, you can assume that you will be found negligent if your patient is actively suicidal and you do nothing.Privilege relates to the legal protection from being forced to break the expectation of confidentiality. Parents are the holder of privilege for minor children but many jurisdictions allow exceptions for some types of confidences.Remember, like the attorney or priest, the confidentiality between psychologist and client is “sacred.” It is protected by law and tradition. However, unfortunately, some state laws increasingly infringe on that indispensable element. Thus, psychologists face increasing conflict among their professional ethics, their concern for clients, and their legal obligations.

For this Forum discussion, watch the brief videoThe Ugly Truth about Beautyat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XiwOGFg3wAAfter watching the video, ponder this: Social psychologists have found that our perceptions and judgments are subject to a variety of biases and other distorting influences. To what advantage is the deliberate development of the perception of flawless beauty in our society? What disadvantage? Using the attitude heuristic of the Halo Effect,  how would your general impressions differ by seeing only the image of the woman at the beginning of the video with the same woman if you saw her image only at the end of the video?   In other words, just by viewing the two images, describe the personality characteristic (your general impression) of each one separately: woman A and woman B.Supplement the video with ascholarly article  about “The Halo Effect” or “The Horns Effect” that you find interesting.  Be sure to cite your sources, and remember that direct quotes and references do not count toward the minimum word count.APA Format. 400 word minimum.
