In this assignment, you will be completing a health assessment on an older adult. To complete this assignment, do the following:

1. Perform a health history on an older adult. Students who do not work in an acute setting may “practice” these skills with a patient, community member, neighbor, friend, colleague, or loved one. (If an older individual is not available, you may choose a younger individual).
2. Complete a physical examination of the client using the “Health History and Examination” assignment resource. Use the “Functional Health Pattern Assessment” resource as a guideline to assist you in completing the template.
3. Document findings of complete physical examination in Situation-Background-Assessment-Recommendation (SBAR) format. Refer to the sample SBAR Template located on the National Nurse Leadership Council website at https://www.ihs.gov/nnlc/includes/themes/newihstheme/display_objects/documents/resources/SBARTEMPLATE.pdf as a guide.
4. Document the findings of the physical examination in the assessment worksheet.
5. Using the “Health History and Examination” assignment resource, provide the physical examination findings summary with planned interventions for the client. Include any community services in the interventions.

Assignment Instructions 

 For this assignment, write 4–5 pages in which you examine the interplay of the three generations working in nursing today.  Overview  Today’s nursing workforce is made up of women and men from a wide variety of cultures, races, religions, and sexual orientations. In addition, nurses and nursing leaders come from three different generations with different attitudes, beliefs, work habits, and experiences. You may find yourself working with team members from the baby boom generation, Generation X, and the millennial generation. Team leaders need to understand, value, and support the skills, knowledge, and characteristics of each generation in order to build a cohesive, high–performing team. The leadership strategies that have worked in the past may not be as effective in the health care environment of today.  Preparation  Research the characteristics of the three generations in the nursing workforce today: The baby boomers (born 1946–1964), the Gen Xers (born 1963–1980), and the millennials (born 1980–2000). Consider how nursing leaders can use this information to build a work environment that supports all generations.  Requirements  Complete the following: •Describe briefly the main characteristics of each of the three generations working in nursing today (baby boomers, Gen Xers, and millennials). Focus primarily on attitudes towards work and family, communication styles, and comfort with technology. •Identify at least one specific skill that each generation brings to a team. •Explain the types and causes of conflict that are likely to occur within a multigenerational team. •Describe strategies a team leader can use to help build cohesiveness within multigenerational nursing teams. Discuss disparities related to ethnic and cultural groups relative to low birth weight infants and preterm births. Describe the impact of extremely low birth weight babies on the family and on the community (short-term and long-term, including economic considerations, on-going care considerations, and co-morbidities associated with prematurity). Identify at least one support service within your community for preterm infants and their family. Provide the link for your colleagues to view.
