The concept of disequilibrium denotes a lack of balance (equilibrium) within schemes and operations. Cognitive dissonance can be likened to disequilibrium in that maintaining contradictory beliefs leads to feelings of discomfort and a desire to adjust those beliefs to remove any inconsistency. Schemes could be adjusted to accommodate the new information. Alternatively, the new information could be rejected and the scheme remains intact. The individual might seek out or interpret information so it supports their beliefs (known as confirmation bias). One real-life example of cognitive dissonance involves childhood vaccinations and autism. A number of parents have not had their children vaccinated because they believe vaccinations cause autism. Despite scientists being unable to find a link between childhood vaccinations and autism (CDC, 2015), the belief persists. As you read the McLeod and O’Leary articles, consider how these parents resolved their cognitive dissonance.Photo Credit: James Woodson/DigitalVision/Getty ImagesReferenceCenters for Disease Control and Prevention. She works as a receptionist for an insurance company. Coral works long hours sitting behind a desk. After work she goes out to eat dinner with her friends, then goes home to watch television until bedtime. She has been steadily gaining weight due to her diet and sedentary lifestyle. She had a medical checkup when she turned 30 and her doctor told Coral that she is extremely overweight and that her blood test indicates she is pre-diabetic. The doctor has told her the best way reduce the likelihood of developing Type II diabetes is to lose weight through regular exercise and diet. Coral doesn’t know where she will find the time to exercise and she enjoys eating out too much to give that up.Cognitive Dissonance Scenario #2 Stefan is a conscientious grade school teacher. He values his job and cares about his students. Stefan is also a camping enthusiast who prides himself on having the latest and best equipment. He discovered a new piece of camping equipment that was required for his next big trip and eagerly ordered it online. The next day, Stefan reads that the equipment was manufactured using child labor and at least one child is reported to have died.Cognitive Dissonance Scenario #3 Jenny is a 45-year-old smoker who also has a family history of lung cancer. Her father, who was also a smoker, died of lung cancer. Her last physical revealed that she is suffering from high blood pressure and her doctor advised her to quit smoking due to all the associated health risks. However, Jenny not only enjoys smoking but also believes that it provides great help when she is stressed out. She also believes that if she quits smoking, she will put on weight.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISCUSSIONS:   Your contributions should be thoughtful and developed.  Answer all parts of the question and use concepts from the course materials.  Use a professional style of communication, with attention to grammar, spelling, and typos; cite your sources.    Original posts must be between 350-500 words If you follow the discussion rubrics it will show and your grade will be HIGHER.The following options are provided so that you CHOOSE ONE and respond to it based on your reading of the articles provided this week and your best critical thinking.  Follow the rubrics to obtain the highest grade possible.Consider this question: “Can a person be good without religious faith?” For example, if someone is certain that no one would ever find out, what prevents them from lying in order to get what they want? If they don’t believe that God will punish them for “bad” behavior, what is to prevent them from doing it? Explain clearly your reasons for saying yes or no to the question. Are these reasons that all rational people should accept? Why or why not?One of the things that makes ethical egoism such an attractive theory at first glance is that it seems to describe the way we act anyway; this is also sometimes known as psychological egoism. Think of a time that you did something that may have been considered morally praiseworthy, but where your motivation was your own self-interest. You actually have to have benefited from this action. Would you say that what you did was morally praiseworthy? If not, does thinking about egoism change your mind? Why or why not?Singer strongly suggests that we are our brother’s keeper and that we should live only on what we need to exist, not what we want, as long as there are hungry people in the world. Analyze his article and tell me what you agree with and what you don’t. Is a cure for poverty your responsibility, the non-profits in the area, the local government, the national government, or no one’s?Consider the religion you were born into or practice now. Is there some moral rule you can think of that depends entirely on that religion for its validity? For example, would you make a pro-life or pro-choice rule a moral rule for everyone to follow? Why or why not? What the video at https://youtu.be/ZJZoOGXIXQU then respond to all of the three following questions:  a) what do you think about what you saw; b) what would it take you to do something similar?; c) why do you think we do not have more of people like this man?Watch the video at https://youtu.be/QoH8_EH6WMI and then respond to the following three questions: a) why is forced prostitution related to poverty; b) why is the work of this woman so important to address the issue of poverty; and, what would you tell a man that buys a woman´s body for pleasure about poverty. For your consideration:  world hunger.  See also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Hunger_Index

Responding to Important Child Development Issues Please follow Rubric | 2025 Custom Writing

Responding to Important Child Development IssuesAssignment ContextFrom the perspective of a professional who has knowledge and expertise in child development, you have been invited to address an audience that includes parents as well as other professionals on a specific issue. Select one topic under early childhood, middle childhood, or adolescence as the focus of your paper and written presentation. Your textbook introduces various issues linked to biology and the environment, health, education, and cultural influences. Start exploring the material in the text that is relevant to your selected issue and then expand your research to include current secondary literature.Your assignment is divided into two parts:Part 1Develop a 5–7-page paper on the selected topic supporting ideas with current research from the scholarly literature that fully explores the topic. The paper will provide the basis for you to explain the impact of the issue facing the child in the scenario you selected from the Scenarios media piece. The paper should have APA structure, formatting, and referencing.Part 2Prepare 2-page a presentation for the intended audience based on the research you conducted on the topic. Write out the presentation on two double-spaced pages. This does not need APA in-text referencing, but you can refer to important scholarly sources that support your ideas. Remember to consider the level of understanding the audience may have on the topic so that you avoid jargon or provide clarification. This presentation needs to have objective support, but, as a presentation, it can be in more informal first-person language.Assignment RequirementsYour paper should meet the following requirements:•Written communication: Use the accepted form and style of the psychological professions, employing grammar, punctuation, and mechanics expected of graduate-level composition and expression.•References: Include a minimum of six academic, peer-reviewed resources. The course text can be used, but it is not considered one of the peer-reviewed articles.•APA style and formatting: Format the references and in-text citations according to current APA style and formatting guidelines. Use the MEAL Plan document (given in the resources) to organize the content and include APA headings and subheadings.•Length of paper: 5–7 typed, double-spaced pages.•Length of presentation paper: Two typed, double-spaced pages. Note: Your submission for this assignment should be a total of 7–9 pages that includes both Part 1 and Part 2.•Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.Note: Your instructor may also use the APA Writing Feedback Rubric to provide additional feedback on your academic writing. The writing feedback rubric does not affect your assignment grade, but its feedback may factor into the grading criteria, if professional communication and writing is a course competency. Evaluate your own work using this rubric.
