Question 1: Monumental Architecture and Sculpture

The cultures we studied this week produced architecture, earthworks, and monumental sculpture, in addition to smaller works of art. Using your course textbook locate three examples of architecture, earthworks or monumental sculpture from three different cultures listed here: Islamic, Chinese, Japanese, or the Americas.

First, completely identify each structure or sculpture you would like to discuss by listing its name, date, and location.

In a minimum of 3 well-developed paragraphs address the following questions:

1. Who created each work of architecture or sculpture? Who commissioned its creation?
2. What historical events or social or cultural influences affected the creation of each work?
3. How do the visual characteristics of each work contribute to or enhance its message or meaning?

Be sure to explain your ideas clearly and support them by discussing specific details about each work of architecture or monumental sculpture.

Question 2: The Function of Art Objects

Some of the art objects created by the cultures surveyed this week served functional roles in their society. Using your course textbook locate three such objects, one each from the following: Islamic, Asian (Chinese or Japanese), and African.

First, completely identify each object you would like to discuss by listing its name, date, and location.

In a minimum of 2 well-developed paragraphs discuss:

1. What was the function of each object at the time of its creation?
2. What historical events or social or cultural influences affected the creation of each work?
3. How do the visual characteristics of each object contribute to or enhance our understanding of its meaning?

Be sure to explain your ideas clearly and support them by discussing specific details about each work.

CASE STUDY: Esther is a 78 year old female who suffers from osteoporosis. She Esther lives with her only daughter and son-in-law and her two teenage grandchildren. Not to mention, she also has a family dog. Esther is very fragile, weighing about 120 lbs and barely likes to eat. She enjoys her days watching the news, cooking, and watching over the Yorkie while everyone is at work and school.  Though recently she tripped while going down a step to the patio and fractured her ankle. The family found her crying on the steps. They called the ambulance and she was taken to the ER. A couple days later she is discharged home and a home care plan is issued. 

The project is to write a one page paper on patient teaching how to use a cane. The difference between 2 gait, 3 gait, and 4 gait canes. How Esther would use them, how to prevent any other fall. What side would the cane go on? (affected or non affected side) 

 The paper should be three typewritten double spaced pages following APA style guidelines. The paper should address the following:

1. Introduction that includes who you are and where you practice nursing

2. Definition of Nursing

3. Assumptions or underlying beliefs

4. Definitions and examples of  the major domains (person, health, and environment) of nursing

5. Summary that includes:

a. How are the domains connected?

b. What is your vision of nursing for the future?

c. What are the challenges that you will face as a nurse?

d. What are your goals for professional development?

With a society that is so diverse in its own nature, issues pertaining to cultural diversity are bound to occur in the process of team management and leadership. Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research about cultural diversity. Based on your research and understanding, answer the following questions:

· How does having members of different cultures on a team affect the team’s performance?

· How would you incorporate a person from a culture of your choice into your team, keeping in mind communication differences within your and the chosen culture?

Part 2

Understanding cultural diversity is extremely important specially leaving in Florida. According to a research “As the United States population becomes more diverse and camps employ more international staff, the issue of communicating and interacting effectively with people from other cultures becomes more important” (American Camp Association, 2017). Nurses get to work with many different cultures so it is extremely important that we get learn about different cultures types so we can provide the best care possible.

· How does having members of different cultures on a team affect the team’s performance?

Nurses also get to work with people from other cultures backgrounds which can definitely make a big impact on team performance. The biggest problem in this case will be language barrier which can definitely reduce the effectiveness of communication between team members. I will like to add to the discussion that I am from a different cultural background and do I agree that language barrier can make a big impact on team performance. Several times during my career I had to experience how some team members encounter a hard time trying to understand what I said because of my hard accent. I know this is something that I must work on and I tried to do better every day in order to not to compromise my work or the safety of my patients.

· How would you incorporate a person from a culture of your choice into your team, keeping in mind communication differences within your and the chosen culture?

The biggest thing about incorporating someone from a different culture to the team is that we must understand that they must be treated the same, we must respect the choices and we must take the time to learn more about their cultures and we can positively make them feel welcome in their new environment.

When completing the teaching plan, students should consider the age and developmental level of the group they will be teaching. What is their attention span estimated to be? What activities will you do to make the teaching interactive and get the kids involved? What level of language will you use to explain things at the child’s level of understanding?

After the project is completed, the group must submit a final summary paper (maximum 5 pages, excluding references and cover page) in APA format with a minimum of 3 peer reviewed references.  This paper should cover the following topics, which are recommended as headings in the document.

o Project description (Who was your target population? What topic did you choose? Why? What developmental consideration were included? What teaching strategies were used?

o Evaluation of learning (Were the learning objectives achieved? How did you know? What method of evaluation was used?) **Use a hypothetical scenario**

o Summary of overall experience (Do you feel it was helpful to the children? What were the strengths or weaknesses of the teaching methods used? Would you do anything differently.
