PLANNING HEALTH PROMOTION PROGRAMS: NEEDS ASSESSMENT

For this component of your SLP, based on the public health topic you selected in Module 1 SLP, please discuss the following:

1. What behavioral factors influence the problem? Which of these behaviors are more important and which are more amenable to health promotion/ intervention? Which behaviors would you design a program/intervention for based on these considerations? What environmental aspects seem to also affect the health issue you selected?
2. What are the predisposing, enabling, and reinforcing factors for the health behaviors you identified? Include any environmental influences.
3. What policies, resources, and circumstances can facilitate or hinder your proposed program/intervention on the factors you identified?
4. If you were doing a project in real life, and this would be a comprehensive plan, how would you gather your needs assessment data? What would be your data sources?

SLP Assignment Expectations

Please make sure that all assignment questions are specifically answered, that your answers are clear, and your paper is well organized. It is important that you analyze the information you find in various resources, cover relevant areas, formulate conclusions, and provide enough depth, while paying attention to grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Properly cite your references and limit your paper to a maximum of 3 pages.

Your assignment will not be graded until you have submitted an Originality Report with a Similarity Index (SI) score <15% (excluding direct quotes, quoted assignment instructions, and references). Papers not meeting this requirement by the end of the session will receive a score of 0 (grade of F). Papers with a lower SI score may be returned for revisions. For example, if one paragraph accounting for only 10% of a paper is cut and pasted, the paper could be returned for revision, despite the low SI score. Please use the report and your SI score as a guide to improve the originality of your work.

Post a response that addresses the following questions for the case you have chosen:

ü In what way did the system fail the patient and his family?

ü What communication problems are apparent in the case?

ü Where in the process of care did incidents (errors, near misses, adverse events, and harm) occur?

Applying Current Literature to Clinical Practice

· Select one of the articles from the Learning Resources to evaluate for this Assignment.

Note: In nursing practice, it is not uncommon to review current literature and share findings with your colleagues. Approach this Assignment as though you were presenting the information to your colleagues.

The Assignment

In a 5- to 10-slide PowerPoint presentation, address the following:

· Provide an overview of the article you selected, including answers to the following questions. ( see Articles Below)

o What type of group was discussed?

o Who were the participants in the group? Why were they selected?

o What was the setting of the group?

o How often did the group meet?

o What was the duration of the group therapy?

o What curative factors might be important for this group and why?

o What “exclusion criteria” did the authors mention?

· Explain the findings/outcomes of the study in the article. Include whether this will translate into practice with your own client groups. If so, how? If not, why?

· Explain whether the limitations of the study might impact your ability to use the findings/outcomes presented in the article.

Note: The presentation should be 5–10 slides, not including the title and reference slides. Include presenter notes (no more than a half page per slide) and use tables and/or diagrams where appropriate. Be sure to support your work with specific citations from the article you selected. Support your presentation with evidence-based literature.

Part 3: Advanced Levels of Clinical Inquiry and Systematic Reviews

Create a 6- to 7-slide PowerPoint presentation in which you do the following:

• Identify and briefly describe your chosen clinical issue of interest.
• Describe how you developed a PICO(T) question focused on your chosen clinical issue of interest.
• Identify the four research databases that you used to conduct your search for the peer-reviewed articles you selected.
• Provide APA citations of the four relevant peer-reviewed articles at the systematic-reviews level related to your research question. If there are no systematic review level articles or meta-analysis on your topic, then use the highest level of evidence peer reviewed article.
• Describe the levels of evidence in each of the four peer-reviewed articles you selected, including an explanation of the strengths of using systematic reviews for clinical research. Be specific and provide examples.

Job burnout is a state of physical or emotional exhaustion that also involves a sense of reduced accomplishment and loss of personal identity (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2018).  Nursing burnout/turnover is negatively impacting healthcare at a national level. With recent reports of pervasive “burnout” and depression among healthcare professionals and the pressure that many influential healthcare organizations exert on clinicians to deliver high-quality, safe care under increasingly heavy patient loads, the use and teaching of EBP may be key not only to providing outstanding care to patients and saving healthcare dollars, but also to reducing the escalating turnover rate in certain healthcare professions (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2018). This is devastating, yet important, due to the impact this has on patient care and safety.  This being said, my topic of nurse burnout/turnover formed into a PICO(T) question is:

P: Registered Nurse’s in the ED

O: Patient safety and satisfaction

Question: Does Registered Nurse burnout/turnover in the ED impact patient safety and satisfaction?

Databases and Results

When searching for this topic the databases used were MEDLINE, PubMed, and EBSCO through the Walden Library.  The search terms used for MEDLINE and PubMed were nurse burnout narrowing the search to 5 years, humans, journal article, English, and full text.  That generated approximately 813 articles.  After incorporating the Boolean terms AND nurse turnover, it then narrowed the search articles to 402.  Through the Walden Library, the search terms nurse burnout in the ED were used, narrowing to peer-reviewed only and full text.  This generated 8 articles.  To improve these results strategies such as incorporating more Boolean terms, using more specific search terms, and trialing more databases could benefit in a more efficient and effective search.

Conclusion

Clinicians with burnout may have impaired attention, memory, and executive function that decrease their recall and attention to detail placing them and their patients at higher risk for errors and safety (Heath, 2018).  Happy and healthy employees promote happy and healthy patients.  This topic is in need of clinical inquiry at a national level, but also where this nurse is employed.  The turnover rate has been significantly increased where this nurse is employed, leading to short staffing, thus increased workload and unhappy patients.  This kind of work environment is unsafe and warrants change not only for the healthcare professionals sake, but more importantly the patients sake.
