From BBC News on the San Bernardino, CA December 2015 killings: “President Obama says the U.S. ‘will not be terrorized’ by the deadly San Bernardino shootings, which the FBI is treating as an act of terrorism.”   Inspired by the aims and ideology of ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) which has claimed the two killers as supporters, “Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and his wife Tashfeen Malik, 29, killed 14 people before being shot dead by police” (bbc.com/news 12/5/15).

In Paris on November 13, 2015, 130 people were killed by coordinated terrorist attacks in three different locations at the same time.   The French President Francois Hollande subsequently declared “France is at war.  We are in a war against terrorism, jihadism, which threatens the whole world.  Terrorism will not destroy France because France will destroy it” (cnn.com 11/16/15).

And you also know about more recent terrorist killings this year such as the terrorist who used a truck to mow down innocent people, including children, in Nice, France, and more than 80 people were killed.

Health History

Mr. M., a 70-year-old male, has been living at the assisted living facility where you work. He has no know allergies. He is a nonsmoker and does not use alcohol. Limited physical activity related to difficulty ambulating and unsteady gait. Medical history includes hypertension controlled with ACE inhibitors, hypercholesterolemia, status post appendectomy, and tibial fracture status postsurgical repair with no obvious signs of complications. Current medications include Lisinopril 20mg daily, Lipitor 40mg daily, Ambien 10mg PRN, Xanax 0.5 mg PRN, and ibuprofen 400mg PRN.

Case Scenario

Over the past 2 months, Mr. M. seems to be deteriorating quickly. He is having trouble recalling the names of his family members, remembering his room number, and even repeating what he has just read. He is becoming agitated and aggressive quickly. He appears to be afraid and fearful when he gets aggressive. He has been found wandering at night and will frequently become lost, needing help to get back to his room. In 2019, Police Officer Amber Guyger was convicted of the murder of Botham Jean in a 2017 case in which she entered his apartment and shot him thinking he was an intruder in her own nearby apartment, according to her testimony.  Guyger was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison.  The younger brother of Botham spoke in court after the conviction was read stating that he forgave Guyger and requested that he be allowed to hug her, which he did.
