Hello Everyone. Our century is the century of new technology. New technologies, new machines appear in our life so frequently that we sometimes do not even pay attention to this. The new technology is coming to the hospitals as well. A self-help kiosk in the hospitals and health care organizations is the new reality that already came into our life. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the self-help kiosks?

Advantages:

1. Medical kiosks are reducing patients’ waiting time
2. Secure biometric authentication
3. Less errors due to human mistakes
4. Reduce cost for the facility
5. Different and more secure payment options
6. Keeping distance between patients helping to reduce spreading the virus

Disadvantages:

1. Lack of human interaction, a patient needs to put an effort if he/she needs attention and the patient has a question about payments and some appointments.
2. Older populations sometimes do not understand the interface and the programs and get confused.
3. Software has to be constantly updated and high cost of maintenance

The group of medical researchers made a study about the self-help kiosk, a database was explored from 2001- 2018. The research made this conclusion: “This study found that health kiosks are promising, cost-effective and multifunctional tools; if included in the formal health system of countries, they may improve health indicators in countries. However, before deploying, their challenges and concerns need to be investigated and addressed. (Mozhgan, L. 2020). It was proven that self-help kiosks are more efficient and have more advantages than disadvantages, however, we should consider the older population as well and make sure that they are not left without the help.

 With the growing importance of increasing wage rates for employees, many health care organizations are implementing technology such as self-help kiosks to reduce staffing. Describe both an advantage and a disadvantage to this practice and discuss how patients may perceive reductions in dedicated staffing.

Taking into consideration that she is a Roman Catholic nun, what would be the ideal course of patient education as this woman progresses from department to department?

The patient’s norms and values have to be addressed. Each patient has differing beliefs in relation to illness. It is important to understand Sister Mary’s needs and priorities so the education can be tailored to her and promote comprehension (Falvo, 2011). Being a Roman Catholic nun can shape the patient’s perception and attitude towards medical support. The healthcare professionals is responsible for being sensitive and respectful of the patient’s beliefs. The patient should be asked about her comfort levels and that information should be relied from department to department. For example, will the patient be comfortable being dressed in a hospital gown when under a male nurse’s care? The patient should be made aware of each procedure and test being completed and asked for permission before proceeding.The patient should be given all the information about the diagnostic testing and treatment plan so she can make an informed decision (Rothenberg, 2003). If the patient allows, a chaplain or priest can be present as support. Time should also be made for the patient to pray. 

Sister Mary is a patient in Level 2 Emergency Department. She must have a neural examination, physical assessment, radiographs of her facial bones, and a computed tomography scan of the head. An 83, year old woman is recovering from pneumonia. She has Alzheimer’s disease and has become increasingly hostile and unmanageable in the home setting. Option 3: John Doe, Patient One, is in late stage of kidney disease. If he does not receive a new kidney, then he is predicted to die within a week. Doe is 45, single, and has no children. Doctors theorize that Doe damaged his kidney by not following a low-salt diet. Doe inherited one million dollars and is known for giving money to charity. Without a transplant, he will probably be forced to spend all his money searching for a kidney outside of the usual legal channels. Patient Two is Jane Doe (no relation to John). Patient Two is a mother of two children (ages 21 and 24). She is divorced and 55 years old. She developed kidney problems due to eating a high-fat and high-sugar diet. If she does not receive a kidney within one month, doctors believe she will die. Patient Three is an orphan. This orphan lives in a state facility. She was born with a genetic condition that constantly damages her kidney. The only known approach to her condition is to provide her with a kidney transplant every so often. She is 11 and has already undergone two kidney transplants. She will perish in two months if she does not receive another transplant.

All three patients are at the same hospital. The hospital only has one kidney to give out. The orphan’s birth parents were known to be of a religion that is opposed to organ donation. The other patients come from religions that do not oppose organ donation. Who should get the kidney? Why should that candidate receive it over the others? Devise a course of social action and a solution for this case by using the ethics of egoism and then utilitarianism to a key moral conflict involving health care in this case. Appraise the interests of diverse populations (in terms of ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, etc.) and how they relate to the case. Consider whether differing ethical beliefs globally might or not agree with what you say.
