Remember – these journal questions require more thinking than writing. Think about exactly what you are asked to do, and then write as economically as possible. 

For this journal assignment, answer each of the following prompts:

• Important Idea
  • Considering only the Introduction to Chapter 5, in terms of developing critical thinking and reasoning, what do you consider is the most valuable and important idea in that section? You can either summarize or directly quote the text; then, briefly explain why you find this idea important and valuable.
• Critical Thinking
  • In Chapter 5, the section “Making Arguments” states: “In some ways applying our core critical thinking skills to analysis can be more difficult than offering an evaluative opinion. Analysis, like interpretation, is understanding at a deep level (p. 89)”
    • What concepts discussed in Chapter 4 might make analysis of a statement difficult – and why?

  • Why do you believe what you believe?
  • What is your “evidence”?
  • Test one of your beliefs by asking yourself, “Why?” As you answer each “why,” go down another layer – four layers will probably give you a good idea of why you believe what you believe.
  • Your product should show a well-reasoned and logical basis for your belief. Stay away from the big stuff, like believing in God, or who to vote for in the next election, and don’t look for sources – this is about what you believe and why you believe it. After all, this is only an 8-week course, and we can’t settle everything!

Suppose your claim is “All people should work to support their children.” Here is an example of possible “layers of why” for this claim:

• Layer 1: People should work to support their children because it is the right thing to do.
• Layer 2: It is the right thing to do because it is true that children need to be cared for by adults.
• Layer 3: I believe my last statement is true because it is an accurate description of what occurs – that is, very small children sicken and die if adults do not care for their needs; older children may exhibit many physical and emotional deficiencies if they are not properly cared for.
• Layer 4: Reasonable attention to the needs of children is just since children are largely dependent on their parents (who, after all, brought them into the world) for all of their needs during the early years of their lives. Furthermore, such attention leads to a healthy, productive and ordered society in which each individual has an opportunity to achieve his or her highest potential.

• Identify and describe at least two competing needs impacting improved technology. 
• Describe a relevant policy or practice in your organization that may influence technology.

History

A fully functional, independent woman who is nearly 100 years old and lives with her 2 daughters. She has a Glasgow coma scale (GCS) of 15. A history finds that she has:

• Hypertension
• Coronary artery disease
• Congestive heart failure
• Cataracts
• Hearing impairments
• Knee osteoarthritis
• IDDM

Her medications are Lisinopril 10mg daily, furosemide 40 mg daily, ASA 81 mg po, and metoprolol 50mg XL bid.

1. What sensory deficient needs to be addressed before talking to the client?

2. What does a GCS of 15 mean?

3. With the medications –list the classification of each drug and its action. With Lisinopril what electrolyte and dietary precaution needs to be addressed? What major side effect of Lisinopril would cause involvement of the dermis, subcutaneous tissue, and the mucosa? What does ASA do the platelets? How does metoprolol affect the blood sugar?

4. Of these drugs ordered which one would the nurse question?

Presentation and Examination

Patient develops abdominal pain increasing over 5 days; obstipation for 1 day.  She is acutely ill and she appeared uncomfortable and volume depleted.  On exam, she has abdominal distention, hypoactive bowel sound and no mass is found.  Her heart is enlarged and has an S3. Her 2 D echo shows Mitral stenosis and an EF of 45%. Her abdominal Cat Scan shows a intussusception of the large intestine. A NGT is inserted. Labs are as follows:

VS: T 100F, 110, RR 16 BP 100/72

1. What is intussusception and what treatment does it require?

2. When placing an NGT the nurse knows that a certain way to measure it? Describe how it is to be done? 

3. What is the normal lactic level and what does it show in this scenario? What does the BUN/ CR indicate? What other abnormal lab work would be a priority to address and what measures would the nurse need to initiate?

4. What crystalloid would be used to hydrate the client?

5. What is abnormal of her vital signs and why? What is her Mean arterial pressure and her pulse pressure – describe the terms and the normal levels?

· Explanation for the relationship between professional practices and scholarly ethics

· Cite at least two resources that support your arguments, being sure to use proper APA formatting.

· Use Grammarly and SafeAssign to improve the product.

· Explain how Grammarly, Safe Assign, and paraphrasing contributes to academic integrity.

Part 3, Section 2: Strategies for Maintaining Integrity of Work

Expand on your thoughts from Section 1 by:

· identifying and describing strategies you intend to pursue to maintain integrity and ethics of your: (1) academic work as a student of the MSN program and (2) professional work as a nurse throughout your career. Include a review of resources and approaches you propose to use as a student and a professional.

We  continue our journey through the research process by looking at the  results of data analysis. The lesson explores how researchers test and  interpret data that were collected on the sample. You  will need to download the Class Survey Hypothetical Results from the  Optional Resources to Enhance Learning page and discuss them in the  discussions.

As  you begin preparing for the Nutrition Feeding and Eating Assignment, it  is important to realize that the Assignment consists of completion of a 2-3 page summary. Although you are required to access the Nutrition Feeding and Eating module, you are not required to complete this module/quiz. This is optional and completion of this quiz will not count toward your Core Grade. However, completion of the 2-3 page summary is required and is  included in the Core Grade.   Please find the attached instructions to  help you prepare for completion of this assignment.

You are not required to complete the module but you must complete  a 2-3 page summary to submit.
