Which theoretical perspective on personality and moral development most closely represents your view?

In the context of the nature versus nurture controversy, nature means one’s genetic inheritance of traits such as intelligence, physical characteristics, and personality tendencies (Vander Zanden, Crandell, & Crandell, 2009). Nurture means the influence of environment, including parenting, schooling, physical environment, culture, and other factors (Vander Zanden et al., 2009). In the past, social scientists and others argued which factor—nature or nurture —was responsible in a given situation, but it is more common today to ask either how much is due to nature versus nurture, or how they interact (Vander Zanden et al., 2009). Vander Zanden et al. (2009) therefore characterize the current nature versus nurture controversy as asking either how or how much, rather than which.

While there are many theories that address the nature-nurture controversy, behaviorism most closely represents my view. Most of the behaviors needed to succeed in life are within the capabilities of most people, but some people’s environments make success unlikely for them. If a person is raised in an environment that does not support educational activities, that person is unlikely to become a physicist, even if he or she was born with the intelligence traits of an Einstein. Similarly, those raised in a violent environment are more likely to be violent, such as those who were abused as children may subsequently abuse their own children.

  1. Download the Community Windshield Survey (Links to an external site.) form. You will type answers directly onto this Word document. Your form does not need to follow APA formatting; however, you are expected to use a professional writing style with complete sentences, accurate grammar, and correct spelling within the fill-in sections. References are not needed as this should be based on your observations.

Below are the requirements needed for successful completion of the Windshield Survey Form.

  1. Introduction to the Community: Identify the community you will be using for this assignment with the city and state, and provide a brief, one-paragraph description of the community. Your community should be the area where you live or the area surrounding your work setting. The community must include a residential area and be a large enough area to answer the survey questions. Do not include epidemiological or demographic data as this is based on what you observe.
  2. Windshield Survey: Assess your community by doing a windshield survey. Information about the components of a windshield survey is located in your textbook, Nies and McEwen (2019). Drive through the area and report your observations by answering the questions on the form. Be sure to include what you observed related to each of these categories, and also include any significant items that are missing in your community because this may be equally important in identifying a community health problem.
    1. Community vitality
    2. Indicators of social and economic conditions
    3. Health resources
    4. Environmental conditions related to health
    5. Social functioning
    6. Attitude toward healthcare
    7. Note: It is helpful to conduct this assessment at least two different times: during the day or evening, on a weekday, and/or on the weekend. If possible, plan on asking someone to drive during your survey so that you can take notes.
  3. Vulnerable population: Identify the aggregate or vulnerable populations that you observed in your community during your drive through. What did you observe about this population?

Hello, this will be a brief tutorial of the first assignment. The first assignment is due Sunday of week two no later than 11:59 PM Mountain Time. This Community Windshield Survey will give you an opportunity to look at your community several times so that you can observe an area from the perspective of a community health nurse.

You will have someone drive you around so that you can write down your observations. You can choose to focus on the community in which you live or work, but be sure it includes a residential area. If you are doing a practicum, you may also choose that area if it is somewhere different.

If you live in a small town, you will be able to include the entire town in the survey. For those in larger cities, choose a section of the city to explore. Be sure the area you choose is large enough to include resources that people living in this area would typically use.

You can include observations on parking lots, grocery stores, restaurants, as well. Carefully review the community windshield guidelines located in the week two module. You can see this on your screen now. These are the road map and should be followed step by step. Be sure to visit the week two online lesson and watch a mock windshield survey that we created in Second Life.

This can help you see what the experts see to give you some idea about what is expected. Next, read the questions about 6.2 in your [UNKNOWN] text titled questions to guide a community health nurse observations during a windshield survey. The windshield survey questions in the text will guide your observations of the six key elements.

Week 5: Strategic Planning

As this course has emphasized, healthcare leaders and managers typically have oversight of a vast array of responsibilities and outcomes. Like a general of an army or a physician helping a patient through a long-term disease, they must demonstrate that they can make critical day-to-day decisions, but they must also have a vision for a better future for those they serve. In healthcare management, that vision can best be achieved through planning involving a strategic process and group of stakeholders.

Healthcare leaders need to know how to ensure that their organizations succeed for the long term, and to anticipate market forces and policy and funding changes, among other challenges. In strategic planning, the process is as important as the plan itself.

This week, you will explore various aspects of strategic planning. You will examine challenges related to strategic planning in healthcare settings, the roles of stakeholders and healthcare leaders in the process, and components and goals of successful strategic plans.

Students will:
  • Analyze stakeholder roles in meeting strategic planning challenges
  • Analyze the role of healthcare leaders and managers in meeting the needs of stakeholders and the goals of the organization through strategic planning
  • Identify the components and goals of a successful strategic plan
  • Compare goals and strategies of strategic plans
  • Analyze barriers to successful strategic planning implementation

When healthcare leaders and managers carefully plan their goals and strategies for the long-term as well as the short-term and involve the right stakeholders and fully understand their perspectives, this helps the organization be more strategic in attaining its current and future goals.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Consider the role of the healthcare manager or leader in strategic planning in healthcare settings.
  • Review the case study provided in your course text: Last Chance Hospital.

Post a comprehensive response to the following:

  • Using specific examples and support from the case study provided in your Learning Resources, describe the main challenges related to strategic planning in Last Chance Hospital and explain why they are challenges.
  • Identify the key stakeholders in the case study. Then, explain the role, if any, each might take in strategic planning and why.
  • Explain the role of a healthcare leader or manager in meeting the needs of the various stakeholders, as well as meeting the goals of the strategic plan and organization.

This PowerPoint® (Microsoft Office) or Impress® (Open Office) presentation should be a minimum of 20 slides, including a title, introduction, conclusion and reference slide, with detailed speaker notes and recorded audio comments for all content slides. Use at least four scholarly sources and make certain to review the module’s Signature Assignment Rubric before starting your presentation. This presentation is worth 400 points for quality content and presentation.
