Area of Interest Power Point Presentation 2025

Purpose The process for affecting positive change to improve practice outcomes can start with either the identification of an area of interest or the identification of a potential or existing practice problem. Selecting an area of interest helps to define a direction for further inquiry. The purpose of this assessment is for students to identify and discuss an area of interest specific to advanced practice nursing. Students will identify a common practice problem related to the selected area of interest and provide a recommendation to affect positive change. Students will build on this project in later courses. Note: The purpose of the MSN project is to translate evidence currently found in the literature into practice within the chosen specialty track. Due to the research complexity, time involvement, and implications regarding human subjects, drug studies are not acceptable areas of interest for an MSN project. Requirements: Criteria for Content For this presentation, select an area of nurse practitioner (NP) practice that is of interest to you and in which you would like to see a practice change occur. Conduct a review of literature to see what is currently known about the topic and to find research support for the practice change you are recommending. You may use a topic from the list at the link below or may investigate a topic of your choice as long as it pertains to NP practice. If you are unsure of your topic, please reach out to your instructor. Be sure to provide speaker’s notes for all slides except the title and reference slides. Through this assignment, the student will demonstrate the ability to: Examine roles and competencies of advanced practice nurses essential to performing as leaders and advocates of holistic, safe, and quality care. (CO1) Analyze essential skills needed to lead within the context of complex systems. (CO3) Explore the process of scholarship engagement to improve health and healthcare outcomes in various settings. (CO4) List of Possible Topics Note: The purpose of the MSN project proposal is to translate evidence currently found in the literature into practice within the chosen specialty track. Due to the research complexity, time involvement, and implications regarding human subjects, drug studies are not acceptable areas of interest for a MSN project. FNP · Best evidence available about a topic (i.e. frequency of mammography) · Screening recommendations (i.e. PSA for prostate cancer) · Information about a healthcare-related phenomenon (i.e. when to talk to a person about ending treatment for a terminal illness, non-compliance of diet for individuals with congestive heart failure) · Vaccinations for adults and/or children · Early assessment for health-related concerns (i.e. depression in teenagers; suicide prevention for the elderly) · Life style changes (i.e. smoking cessation, increasing activity in teenagers) · Relationship between events or health concerns (i.e. relationship between dementia and caffeine consumption. · Selection on an intervention (i.e. use of small group theory to lessen anxiety) · Symptom management (i.e. pain, vomiting) Create an 8-12 slide PowerPoint Presentation that includes the following: Introduction : slide should identify concepts to be addressed and sections of the presentation. Case Study 2025

CASE STUDY 76-year-old female patient complains of weight gain, shortness of breath, peripheral edema, and abdominal swelling. She has a history of congestive heart failure and admits to not taking her diuretic, as it makes her “have to get up every couple hours to go to the bathroom.” She now has to sleep on two pillows in order to get enough air. Case Study Analysis An understanding of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems is a critically important component of disease diagnosis and treatment. This importance is magnified by the fact that these two systems work so closely together. A variety of factors and circumstances that impact the emergence and severity of issues in one system can have a role in the performance of the other. Effective disease analysis often requires an understanding that goes beyond these systems and their capacity to work together. The impact of patient characteristics, as well as racial and ethnic variables, can also have an important impact. An understanding of the symptoms of alterations in cardiovascular and respiratory systems is a critical step in diagnosis and treatment of many diseases. For APRNs this understanding can also help educate patients and guide them through their treatment plans. In this Assignment, you examine a case study and analyze the symptoms presented. You identify the elements that may be factors in the diagnosis, and you explain the implications to patient health. Assignment (2-3-page case study analysis) In your Case Study Analysis related to the scenario provided, explain the following The cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary pathophysiologic processes that result in the patient presenting these symptoms. Discussion: Decision Making When Treating Psychological Disorders. 2025

PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS AS INDICATED BELOW: 1). ZERO (0) PLAGIARISM 2). ATLEAST 5 REFERENCES, NO MORE THAN 5 YEARS 3). PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHMENT FOR RUBRIC DETAILS. 4). Please review and follow the grading rubric details well, and include each component in the assignment as required. Also, follow the APA writing rules and style Psychological disorders, such as depression, bipolar, and anxiety disorders can present several complications for patients of all ages. These disorders affect patients physically and emotionally, potentially impacting judgment, school and/or job performance, and relationships with family and friends. Since these disorders have many drastic effects on patients’ lives, it is important for advanced practice nurses to effectively manage patient care. With patient factors and medical history in mind, it is the advanced practice nurse’s responsibility to ensure the safe and effective diagnosis, treatment, and education of patients with psychological disorders. For this Discussion, you will select an interactive media piece to practice decision-making when treating patients with psychological disorders. You will recommend the most effective pharmacotherapeutic to treat the psychological disorder presented and examine potential impacts of pharmacotherapeutics on a patient’s pathophysiology. To Prepare Review this week’s interactive media pieces and select one to focus on for this Discussion. Reflect on the decision steps in the interactive media pieces, and consider the potential impacts from the administration of the associated pharmacotherapeutics on the patient’s pathophysiology. Post a brief explanation of the psychological disorder presented and the decision steps you applied in completing the interactive media piece for the psychological disorder you selected. Then, explain how the administration of the associated pharmacotherapeutics you recommended may impact the patient’s pathophysiology. How might these potential impacts inform how you would suggest treatment plans for this patient? Be specific and provide examples. Adult/Geriatric Depression Hispanic Male With MDD BACKGROUND INFORMATION The client is a 70 year-old Hispanic American male who came to the United States when he was in high school with his father. His mother died back in Mexico when he was in school. He presents today to your office for an initial appointment for complaints of depression. The client was referred by his PCP after “routine” medical work-up to rule out an organic basis for his depression. He has no other health issues with the exception of some occasional back pain and “stiff” shoulders which he attributes to his current work as a laborer in a warehouse. SUBJECTIVE During today’s clinical interview, client reports that he always felt like an outsider as he was “teased” a lot for being “black” in high school. States that he had few friends, and basically kept to himself. He describes his home life as “good.” Stating “Dad did what he could for us, there were 8 of us.” He also reports a remarkably diminished interest in engaging in usual activities, states that he has gained 15 pounds in the last 2 months. He is also troubled with insomnia which began about 6 months ago, but have been progressively getting worse. He does report poor concentration which he reports is getting in “trouble” at work. MENTAL STATUS EXAM The client is alert, oriented to person, place, time, and event. He is casually dressed. Speech is clear, but soft. He does not readily make eye contact, but when he does, it is only for a few moments. He is endorsing feelings of depression. Affect is somewhat constricted, but improves as the clinical interview progresses. He denies visual or auditory hallucinations, no overt delusional or paranoid thought processes readily apparent. Judgment and insight appear grossly intact. He is currently denying suicidal or homicidal ideation. You administer the “Montgomery- Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS)” and obtained a score of 51 (indicating severe depression) . RESOURCES § Montgomery, S. A., & Asberg, M. (1979). A new depression scale designed to be sensitive to change. British Journal of Psychiatry, 134, 382-389. Decision Point One Decision Point One Select what you should do: Begin zoloft 25 mg orally daily RESULTS OF DECISION POINT ONE Client returns to clinic in four weeks Reports a 25% decrease in symptoms Client is concerned over the new onset of erectile dysfunction Decision Point One Begin Effexor XR 37.5 mg orally daily RESULTS OF DECISION POINT ONE Client returns to clinic in four weeks Client reports that there is no change in depressive symptoms at all Decision Point One Begin Phenelzine 15 mg orally TID RESULTS OF DECISION POINT ONE Client returns to clinic in four weeks Client reports that he was rushed to the Emergency Room 2 weeks ago after collapsing at the warehouse where he works. He was taken by ambulance to the local community hospital. He was diagnosed with postural hypotension Client was treated with fluid bolus and told to stop taking his phenelzine and to follow up with his primary care provider within one week, and you within that same time frame. Decision Point Two Select what you should do next: Decision Point Two Restart Phenelzine and counsel client on dietary choices and importance of hydration RESULTS OF DECISION POINT TWO Client reports that although he had no more episodes of passing out, he has been dizzy when he gets up at night to use the bathroom Client also reports that at various times throughout the day when he goes from a sitting to a standing position, he feels light-headed Decision Point Two Phenelzine is not reinitiated. Instead, we began therapy with Lexapro 20 mg orally daily after an appropriate “wash out” period (5 half-lives). RESULTS OF DECISION POINT TWO Client returns to clinic in four weeks Client had no more syncopal episodes or episodes of orthostatic hypotension Client reports a decrease in depressive symptoms by approximately 25 percent on the MADR scale Decision Point Two Re-start Phenelzine 7.5 mg orally TID RESULTS OF DECISION POINT TWO Client returns to clinic in four weeks Client reported that he still has a little dizziness Client also reports that that his depression has improved greatly (a 35% decrease in MADR scale from 51 to 33) Decision Point Three Select what you should do next: Decision Point Three Continue current drug dose and counsel client on dietary modifications and orthostatic hypotension safety Guidance to Student The initiation of an SSRI or SNRI should not begin until an adequate “wash out” period of MAOI- this is generally defined as the time it takes for 5 half-lives of the drug to be metabolized. Co-administration of SSRI, SNRI, or TCA with MAOI is contraindicated as it can cause serotonin syndrome and can actually be fatal. You can continue the current dose and counsel client as to dietary modifications as well as orthostatic hypotension safety, however, it should be remembered that he works in a warehouse and may be at risk for falls/injury due to orthostatic hypotension. A “watch and wait” approach may be appropriate if the client has failed all other antidepressants. Increasing the dose back to 15 mg orally TID is not indicated as his orthostatic hypotension will likely worsen.

Week 3: Discussion: Skin and Respiratory System Disorders The initial post must include responses to all the questions in this discussion. Ebook: G ould’s Pathophysiology for the Health Professions, 6e 6th Edition Mr. J, age 42, is a construction worker in Las Vegas who lives with his daughter and grandson, Sammy. He recently noticed that a mole on his face seemed to be getting larger and darker. At first, he did not worry because he was in the sun a lot and assumed the change may have been caused by sunburn. After a month, not only was the mole larger and darker, but it appeared to be “bumpy.” His doctor diagnosed a malignant melanoma skin cancer following a biopsy of the nevus. Mr. J reports pain in his right shin that does not go away when he puts his feet up or sleeps. Discussion Questions Relate Mr. J’s skin changes to the warning signs for malignant melanoma. Discuss the normal progression of this malignancy. What is the significance of the bone pain that Mr. J is experiencing? Discuss the treatment available for this patient and the prognosis for recovery. Discussion Questions Mr. J is babysitting his grandson Sammy, age 3 years, who ate his dinner and then said his tummy hurt. Mr. J suggested he lie down in the adjacent room while his parents finished dinner. A few minutes later, Mr. J heard Sammy vomiting. He rushed in to lift Sammy up. When vomiting ceased, he noticed Sammy continued to cough and seemed to be choking. He was struggling to breathe, and a wheezing sound was obvious. It appeared that he had aspirated some vomitus. Mr. J drove him to a nearby hospital for examination. Discuss the specific effects of aspirating vomitus on Sammy, including the probable effects on his bronchi and lungs. Why might one lung be affected more than the other? Discuss the pathophysiologic changes causing the signs and symptoms and any tests required to clarify the effects on Sammy. Suggest some reasons for Sammy’s difficulty breathing and wheezing. Discuss the potential complications of aspiration of vomitus. The physician attending to her told her she developed a deep vein thrombosis. Explain, using your knowledge of hypercoagulability, why the trip to Australia contributed to Leona’s DVT? Why was Leona already at risk for thrombus development? How does Leona’s atherosclerosis affect platelet function? Conversely, what is the effect of increased platelet activity on the development of atherosclerosis? How do atherosclerosis and immobility promote changes in blood coagulation? When Leona was in hospital, she received heparin therapy. Explain why this course of action was taken to treat her DVT. Why was she not given heparin tablets to take back to the hotel with her?
