Discussion Prompt

Ms. Whitley is a 26 year old female. She has a history of asthma since grade school, for the last 3 months she has had to use her Albuterol inhaler 3-4 times per week, sometimes at night. She states she has chronic knee pain from playing soccer in high school, no surgeries, and takes Acetaminophen as needed. She also asks about starting a birth control method, currently using condoms. She asks what you think about medication to help with weight loss since she would like to drop the 20 lbs she gained in college.

>What medication recommendations will you make? Include the drug class, generic and trade name and starting dose range. Provide rationale for your choices.

>Discuss any potential side effects and drug interactions for this patient.

Develop, in detail,  a situation in which a health care worker might be confronted with ethical problems related to patients and prescription drug use OR patients in a state of poverty.

• Your scenario must be original to you and this assignment. It cannot be from the discussion boards in this class or any other previous forum.
• Articulate (and then assess) the ethical solutions that can found using “care” (care-based ethics) and “rights” ethics to those problems.
• Assessment must ask if the solutions are flawed, practicable, persuasive, etc.
• What health care technology is involved in the situation?What moral guidelines for using that kind of healthcare technology should be used there? Explore such guidelines also using utilitarianism, Kantian deontology, ethical egoism, or social contract ethics.

Judge the medical case studied. In the video, philosophers applied the three major ethical principles you learned: Kant’s Categorical Imperative, Utilitarianism, and Virtue Ethics. apply ONE ethical theory to decide the moral course of action in the medical case of the premature twins studied. Apply the ethical theory in each to support your arguments throughout the entire task. Not using the ethical theory,  not using more than one ethical theory.

• Describe the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) and      explain how the QIO improves policies and healthcare for Medicare      beneficiaries.

 Nurse scholars have claimed that nursing is both a discipline and a profession. In order to understand these claims, we must first know what it means for nursing to have a “unique body of knowledge.” If we assume that nursing does, indeed, possess a unique body of knowledge, we can claim that nursing is a “basic science” rather than an “applied science.” Despite these claims, debate continues about nursing as discipline, profession, and science. Is nursing a discipline? A profession? Is nursing a basic science and/or applied science? In your initial post, state what you think about nursing as discipline, profession, and science. Explore the literature beyond that assigned to you for this week’s readings to help you formulate your position. You should include the following:
