Assignment Overview In this assignment, you will research and locate a current journal article on nursing leadership styles. The article must be from a professional, peer-reviewed nursing journal published within the last 5 years; and then write a summary of your findings. 

Assignment Details: 

Perform the following tasks: Complete the reading assignment and the interactive lesson before attempting this assignment.  Research a current journal article on nursing leadership styles. The article must be from a professional, peer-reviewed nursing journal published within the last 5 years. Write a 1-2 page summary of your findings following the criteria below: o First paragraph: summarize the major points of the article. o Second paragraph: answer whether you support the leadership style, and why or why not. o Final paragraph: discuss the article as it relates to nursing practice. o Use at least one additional outside source, such as your textbook. o The summary should be written in APA style format and all sources must be cited correctly.  

As an NP student, you need to determine the medications for onychomycosis.

1. According to the AAFP/CDC Guidelines,  what antifungal medication(s) should this patient be prescribed, and for  how long? Write her complete prescriptions using the prescription  writing format in your textbook.

2.  What labs for baseline and follow up of therapy would you order for this patient? Give rationale.

A 21-year old female (A.M) presents to the urgent care clinic with symptoms of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and a fever for 3 days. She states that she has Type I diabetes and has not been managing her blood sugars since she’s been ill and unable to keep any food down. She’s only tolerated sips of water and juices. Since she’s also been unable to eat, she hasn’t taken any insulin as directed. While helping A.M. from the lobby to the examining room you note that she’s unsteady, note that her skin in warm and flushed and that she’s drowsy. You also note that she’s breathing rapidly and smell a slight sweet/fruity odor. A.M. has a challenge answering questions but keeps asking for water to drink.

You get more information from A.M. and learn

• She had some readings on her glucometer which were reading ‘high’
• She vomits almost every time she takes in fluid
• She hasn’t voided for a day but voided a great deal the day before
• She’s been sleeping long hours and finally woke up this morning and decided to seek care

Current labs and vital signs: 

1. What is the pathophysiology for the condition you believe A.M. has?
2. Relate the etiology and clinical manifestations for the condition you identified for A.M.

The practitioner at the urgent care facility makes the decision that A.M. needs to go to the hospital by ambulance. Once at the Emergency Department (ED), the ED physician orders these items:

1. 1000 ml Lactated Ringer’s (LR) IV stat
2. 36 units NPH (Humulin N) and 20 units regular (Humulin R) insulin SQ now
3. CBC with differential; CMP: blood cultures X2 sites; clean-catch urine for UA and C&S; stool for ova and parasites; Clostridium difficile toxin, and C&S; serum lactate; ketone; osmolality; ABGs on room air
4. 1800 calorie, carbohydrate controlled diet
5. Bed rest
6. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) 650 mg orally Q4 hrs PRN
7. Furosemide (Lasix) 60 mg IV push now
8. Urinary output every hour
9. VS every shift

• Read the case study presented at the end of Chapter 6 (Guido, p. 96)
  • Was there negligence in this case and who should be liable for the negligence?
  • What type of damages should be assessed and how would you begin to determine the amount to assess?
  • Given that there were multiple individuals involved in this case as well as the institution that employed these individuals, how would you determine the percentage of liability for the multiple defendants, assuming that more than one defendant should be assessed with damages?
  • How would you decide this case?
• Read the case study presented at the end of Chapter 7(Guido, p. 115)
  • Were there damages that should be paid to this patient for negligence?
  • Who should be the individuals responsible for these damages? For example, is the surgeon the individual most liable for the damages owed to the patient?
  • Should the Bovie manufacturer also have been included in the lawsuit?
  • Are there any defenses that the defendants could cite that would mitigate their liability to this patient?
  • How should the court decide the damage awards in this instance?

As you have explored this week, there are various methods a researcher may use to engage in quantitative research design. While the methods presented this week are not exhaustive, they do introduce numerous features that you will likely encounter when reviewing, accessing, and researching the nursing practice literature. Whether you are creating new research or searching the literature to add support for a research question you are interested in, understanding the quantitative research designs that may be used for nursing practice will likely inform how you will conduct research for your health care setting. As you continue to build upon your research skills as a nursing researcher and professional, understanding how to engage in quantitative research design is a valuable asset.

Then, be sure to review the research study by Sand-Jekline and Sherman (2014), included in this week’s resources.

This assignment involves identifying and describing the strengths and weaknesses of the research method used in the Sand-Jecklin and Sherman (2014) research article in this week’s resources.

• Focus on the research design, sample data collection methods, tools used for data collection, and the plan for data analysis as discussed in the Sand-Jecklin and Sherman (2014) article.
• Identify at least two strengths and two weaknesses of the study based on reliability and validity by including additional support with citations from resources not assigned this week.
• Use the copy of the Journal Club Template for Quantitative Research located in this week’s resources. The template includes an area for each element discussed in the study.
• Be brief, paraphrase and summarize each of the elements clearly on the form.
• Provide the full citation of the article used for this Assignment on the template.
