Case Assignment

This is a three-part assignment related to a study of contraceptive drug use among women. Table2A is a distribution of systolic blood pressures cross tabulated by age and pill use for women.

First, state whether blood pressure in Table 2A would be a continuous variable or a discrete variable. Explain. Then supposing that the number of women in each of groups (non-users and users) were identified, would the number of women in each category be a continuous variable or a discrete variable? Explain.

Part 2: Use any free online histogram maker* to draw histograms for the blood pressures of the users and nonusers ages 35–44. Discuss one conclusion that can be made about blood pressure and pill use. *Here are some free resources:

Part 3: Based on what you’ve learned in this module about normal distributions, explain why a normal approximation of data would be helpful to view the data. For example, you could describe the steps that one would take to estimate the percentage of women with blood pressures in an age group.

Current Scenario of Health Insurance Plans

Currently, in the United States, an individual is not required to  purchase a health insurance plan. However, according to Section 1501 of  the PPACA, beginning in 2014, “Individuals will be required to maintain  minimum essential coverage beginning in 2014. Failure to maintain  coverage will result in a penalty of $95 in 2014, $350 in 2015, $750 in  2016 and indexed thereafter.”

Currently, employers are not required to provide health insurance  coverage to their employees. However, in 2014, the employers’  responsibility in health insurance coverage will change, according to  the PPACA. This is the latest update in a long line of US health care  reform efforts.

Using South University Online Library or the Internet, search on the  topic of latest health care reforms. On the basis of your research and  your understanding of the topic, answer the following questions:

• Track the progress of health care reform efforts in the US history  starting with the early 1900s detailing the role of Presidents’  attempting to pass health care reform.
• Give your views on the AALL’s efforts to pass National Health Reform.
• What are the issues of culture, politics, and special interests in  the United States that have made health care reform difficult to  achieve?
• Of these three issues, which issue do you find to be the most difficult to overcome? Why?
• What is path dependency? What has this been an issue in health reform? How can the power of inertia be overcome?
• What are the advantages and disadvantages of PPACA that was passed in 2010?

Details:

Read “Reconceptualizing Program Outcomes” and “Leveling EBP Content for Undergraduate Nursing Students” for a better understanding of issues within curriculum development.

Select an issue within curriculum development that is of interest to you.

Write a paper of 1,000-1,250 words on the issue, discussing its affect and relevance to nursing, staff or patient education.

1. Why is this issue a problem at your place of employment?
2. What are your proposed strategies to resolve these issues?
3. Use at least three to five scholarly, peer-reviewed resources less than 5 years old in addition to the course materials. Make sure that you do not use the two sources given in this assignment.

Phase 3: Analyzing the Aggregate Strengths and Weaknesses

For Phase 3 of the Capstone project, analyze and describe the strengths and weaknesses of the aggregate
and the community where the aggregate resides.

Phase 4: Risk Assessment

For Phase 4 of your project, you will select a family in your aggregate and complete a risk assessment in
the field using the information from chapter 18 “Community as Client: Assessment and Analysis” and
“Appendix D Friedman Family Assessment Model (Short Form)” as a guide. Describe how the family,
environment, home, and risk assessments were conducted, using your course textbook as a reference.
Describe the results of the assessments, drawing conclusions about the health risks to the aggregate as you
see them.

Amanda Smith (69 year old, black female) is a retired postal worker. During the visit, she is coughing continually. She states the cough started 5 days ago intermittently but 2 days ago it became constant. Her chart indicates that she has been a patient of the practice for 5 years, gets care regularly and her HTN has been controlled for 4 years.

Non-Smoker now. Smoke 1 pack a day for 15 years. Quit x5 years ago

Baptist, attends church regularly and is a member of the choir

Mother – Deceased at age 27 from traumatic accident

Father – Deceased age 78 related to renal failure secondary to diabetes type II

Assignment Details:

The “Elevator Consult” 

In this activity, you will practice giving a synopsis of your patient to your preceptor. In practice, you may often give this type of report if you are sending a patient for a consultation and your phone the specialist to discuss the patient. This report should be concise and clear. The receiver should, within one minute (slightly less for simple cases, slightly more for complex cases) have a picture of the patient in his/her head. You will report on ONLY items pertaining to the acute problem in this case. Do not include extraneous material or material not directly impacting the decision-making regarding this problem. Remember, this is a FOCUSED visit and assessment to evaluate a focused concern. The history and physical exam applies techniques relevant to the specific complaint for the patient at that visit. Your report should be similarly focused, providing only information that relates specifically to the presenting problem.
