In this week’s Discussion you were introduced to the concept of an academic portfolio to begin building your own brand. Portfolios have value that go beyond brand-building however. An academic and professional portfolio can also help you to build your own vision and mission and establish your development goals. In this regard, a portfolio becomes yet another tool in your toolbox as you build your success.

In this Assignment you will continue developing your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan by developing the fifth component: a portfolio for your academic and professional efforts.

To Prepare:

• Consider your goals for academic accomplishments while a student of the MSN program.

The Assignment:

• Using the Academic Success and Professional Development Plan Template in which you began to work on in Week 1, and have continued working on through this course, in Part 5, you will create a fully developed and accurate curriculum vitae (CV) based on your current education and professional background.
• Clearly identify and accurately state in detail your professional development goals.
• Clearly and accurately state in detail how to accurately and appropriately align one or more of your professional development goals with the University’s emphasis on social change.

Note: Add your work for this Assignment to the original document you began in the Week 1 Assignment, which was built off of the Academic Success and Professional Development Plan Template.

Design

For this section of your research proposal assignment, you will focus on the sampling, reliability, and validity of your research proposal. This section will include information on sampling, reliability, and validity.

The following components should be addressed in your paper this week:

Information on your sample

• Sampling basic information (age, gender, criteria, etc.) 
• Sample size 
• Explain why your sample is appropriate for your study 

Reliability

• Explain how your data collection process is consistent and reliable 
• Explain why your measurement tool is reliable 

Validity

• Explain how you will ensure you have a valid sample 
• Explain how you tested the validity of your measurement tool 

APA formatting, references, and citations are required.

Your research project design should be included as part of your final submission for your research proposal project in week 7 and your research proposal presentation in week 8. Use the feedback you receive from your instructor on your design to modify and improve before submission of your final project in weeks 7 and 8.

 

Assignment

Part 1: Progress Note

Using the client family from your Week 3 Practicum Assignment, address in a progress note (without violating HIPAA regulations) the following:

• Treatment modality used and efficacy of approach
• Progress and/or lack of progress toward the mutually agreed-upon client goals (reference the treatment plan for progress toward goals)
• Modification(s) of the treatment plan that were made based on progress/lack of progress
• Clinical impressions regarding diagnosis and or symptoms
• Relevant psychosocial information or changes from original assessment (e.g., marriage, separation/divorce, new relationships, move to a new house/apartment, change of job)
• Safety issues
• Clinical emergencies/actions taken
• Medications used by the patient, even if the nurse psychotherapist was not the one prescribing them
• Treatment compliance/lack of compliance
• Clinical consultations
• Collaboration with other professionals (e.g., phone consultations with physicians, psychiatrists, marriage/family therapists)
• The therapist’s recommendations, including whether the client agreed to the recommendations
• Referrals made/reasons for making referrals
• Termination/issues that are relevant to the termination process (e.g., client informed of loss of insurance or refusal of insurance company to pay for continued sessions)
• Issues related to consent and/or informed consent for treatment
• Information concerning child abuse and/or elder or dependent adult abuse, including documentation as to where the abuse was reported
• Information reflecting the therapist’s exercise of clinical judgment

Note: Be sure to exclude any information that should not be found in a discoverable progress note.

Part 2: Privileged Note

Based on this week’s readings, prepare a privileged psychotherapy note that you would use to document your impressions of therapeutic progress/therapy sessions for your client family from the Week 3 Practicum Assignment.

In your progress note, address the following:

• Include items that you would not typically include in a note as part of the clinical record.
• Explain why the items you included in the privileged note would not be included in the client family’s progress note.
• Explain whether your preceptor uses privileged notes. If so, describe the type of information he or she might include. If not, explain why.

Part 1:

 

1) Describe a model that you might use to introduce a policy change of your choosing other than what you will address in the upcoming assignment.

Purpose:  you will create a slide presentation in which you will present information to support the passage of HR 5223. 

Your presentation should put forth a convincing argument based on your research and should be designed as if you were addressing a group of legislators whose support you are trying to obtain.

Your slide and audio presentation must address:

1) A description of current risks that healthcare providers face from violence in the workplace.

2) Information from professional nursing associations which support your argument for minimizing the risk of violence in the healthcare setting.

3) Identification of a theoretical or regulatory model which would be applicable to the passage of HR 5223.

4) Identification of stakeholders who will benefit from the passage of HR 5223 and how they would benefit.

5) Potential barriers to passage of HR 5223 and how they can be overcome.

Part 3:

Topic:  Employer and employee rights

1) Evaluate how the topic impacts your role as an advanced practice nurse. 

2) What are the legal implications related to your role? 

3) Analyze how understanding of the chosen topic will impact your future role as an advanced practice nurse. 

Part 4

Select a local or state health care policy or legislation that was enacted in the last 5 years (Florida). Then:

1) Summarize the policy or legislation.

2) Analyze at least one strength and one weakness of the policy or legislation.

3) Discuss the impact of the policy or legislation for all stakeholders, both providers and consumers.
