Week 7 Discussion: Applying and Sharing Evidence (graded)

Purpose

This week’s graded topics relate to the following Course Outcomes (COs).

Discussion Questions

Application and implications for practice come from the interpretation of meaning from research findings. Communicating and using research evidence is an expectation of a BSN graduate.

• Select and describe one of the conclusions from the required article from the Week 6 assignment that you found interesting and applicable to practice. Describe how you would apply the evidence to improve nursing practice. Explain your answer.

• Discuss ways you would disseminate research-based evidence; how would you share with your peers? Include your thoughts on why it is important for you to be involved in communicating and applying nursing research evidence.

 

The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services released a comprehensive Clinical Practice Guideline for Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence–2008 Update

The goal  of these recommendations is that clinicians strongly recommend the use  of effective tobacco dependence counseling and medication treatments to  their patients who use tobacco, and that health systems, insurers, and  purchasers assist clinicians in making such effective treatments  available. 

After reading these recommendations answer the following questions.

1. what are the clinical interventions for patients unwilling to quit cigarette smoking?

2. According to the best practices what are the best strategies to help your clients quit smoking?

3. are there any specific smoking cessation recommendations for especial populations such as teenagers or the elderly?

When discussing stress and burnout in nursing, the nursing shortage is a concern that comes to the top of the list (for legal and ethical reasons), both for working nurses and educational faculty. 

Find an article that explores this issue, summarize the article’s findings, and add a possible solution to the problem.

Reflect on the role that the electoral process and government plays in one’s daily work and family life. As nurses, health policy can influence both arenas of our lives. Add a section to the paper you submitted in Module 1. The new section should address the following:
