Thoughts

The immune system acts as a defense mechanism to keep us healthy. The immune system reacts when exposed to antigens to fight off pathogens. There are times when our immune system in unable to fight these off causing us to be sick or have some sort of reaction. Hypersensitivity reactions is just another way to say allergic reaction (Randall, 2018). This is when our mast cells become destroyed, releasing histamine. When histamines release into the body, an allergic response occurs. (Randall, 2018). The reaction depends on the person, some people have mild reactions and some people have severe reactions. Mild reactions will cause symptoms like itching, watery eyes, scratchy throat, and possible rash (Randall, 2018). Severe reactions may cause anaphylactic shock and can be life-threatening, action needs to be taken right away. These symptoms could include hives, feeling of doom, fever, nausea and vomiting, trouble breathing and back pain (Randall, 2018). These reactions require immediate attention. An example is blood administration. Baseline vitals are obtained and assessment questions are asked, such as any chills, shortness of breath, back pain, headache, are they super tired, feeling nauseous and any rash. Most reactions occur within the first 15 minutes and patients are monitored closely during this timeSchool aged children should be educated regarding the hypersensitivity that they or their classmates have to peanuts, and how to manage symptoms.

Policy and Advocacy for Improving Population Health

Reviewing a policy is just as important as the creation and implementation of the plan. Policies will need to be adjusted and configured to fit the specific program. I can’t tell you how critical the evaluation of a policy or program is, especially in the beginning; what’s the impact being or the impact likely to be of a policy or program (Baltimore, 2018).

In small clinical settings such as private practices and rural health centers with limited resources, internal policies and programming occasionally will be evaluated informally through word of mouth, in a “water-cooler discussion” among a small group, by sharing opinions and experiences through social media, or during in-person team meetings de-briefings (Milstead & Short, 2019). Working in a rural, small clinic setting, I have witnessed this “table talk of social media” kind of discussion; unfortunately, it can sometimes become a gossip circle, complete with finger-pointing instead of brainstorm ideas of how to fix areas of the policy. As a nurse in our clinic, I recommended and volunteered as a “champion” for new policies some time ago. This Nurse will take notes and surveys staff and patients and reports back to a committee meeting throughout different stages of implementation to see what adjustment will be needed. One challenge is this Nurse is adding on more responsibility to an already busy schedule. Not only will she be tally and keeping a log of the above task, but she will also need to attend the committee meeting. The champion and committee can meet and discuss the gathered data; ideas allow staff to be fluid and adapt the policy on an as-needed basis to work best for the clinic and patients’ needs.

When new programs are implemented, many great questions and concerns are brought up by staff, patients, and government officials. I was surprised when watching the videos; they brought up the needle exchange program. In the small clinic I work at, we have a needle exchange program, and we had a lot of the same questions and concerns brought up. We are giving syringes in the needle exchange program, clean syringes, which we know people will use to inject drugs, what if someone injects and overdoses with one of our needles, are we going to be liable (Beilenson, 2018)? One way for nurses to get involved is to create a Facts and questions box. It is labeled Ask Your Nurse. The questions and directions above the box specify items are to be general and non-life threatening. The box has helped implement new programs as patients have asked great questions about new programs, and we reply on our Facebook page in our newsletter that patients and staff can pick up for free at the front of the clinic once a month. One of the questions we got about the need exchange program was how many needles patient can receive, and are we trying to help people have easier access to the needle to get high. This opened the door for us to educate the public to decrease the risk of the spread of other diseases and dirty needles being found on our beaches and streets. The Q&A response has been positive, and the nurses check the box four times a day.

Nurses being involved in the evaluation of new and old policies is critical. Nurses, by nature, access situations at many levels. Reevaluation is the key to success and being fluid and advocating for safety and quality patient care is critical.

Jessie Bugliari RE: Discussion – Week9

One opportunity that exists for RNs and APRNs in policy making and review would be joining the American Nurses Association. The ANA is known to develop many policies in order to help nurses continue to provide evidence-based care for their patients (American Nurses Association, n.d.). One example of how the ANA has influenced policies is in 2017 the ANA took a stand against the proposed American health care act because the ANA argued that it would endanger the health of Americans (American Nurses Association, n.d.). Another opportunity that exists for RN’s/APRN’s in policy making and review would be to join as a member of the State Board of Nursing for that nurses state. By doing so, nurses can take part in deciding whether or not certain skills can be added to a nurses scope of practice, laws for nurses to abide by based on licensure, etc. (Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, n.d.). Some challenges that can be faced would be not everyone being on the same page as you when making decisions on policies. Ways in which this challenge can be overcome would be to get as much facts as possible to support your reasoning behind why a policy should or should not be passed or how to possibly modify the policy to where both parties can agree on them.

Counseling Adolescents – 2025

I NEED IT TODAY PLEASE

4 REFERENCES NOT MORE THAN 5 YEARS

ZERO PLAGIARISM

The adolescent population is often referred to as “young adults,” but in some ways, this is a misrepresentation. Adolescents are not children, but they are not yet adults either. This transition from childhood to adulthood often poses many unique challenges to working with adolescent clients, particularly in terms of disruptive behavior. In your role, you must overcome these behaviors to effectively counsel clients. For this Discussion, as you examine the Disruptive Behaviors media in this week’s Learning Resources, consider how you might assess and treat adolescent clients presenting with disruptive behavior.

Learning Objectives

Students will:
  • Assess clients presenting with disruptive behavior
  • Analyze therapeutic approaches for treating clients presenting with disruptive behavior
  • Evaluate outcomes for clients presenting with disruptive behavior

Post an explanation of your observations of the client in the case study you selected, including behaviors that align to the criteria in DSM-5. Then, explain therapeutic approaches you might use with this client, including psychotropic medications if appropriate. Finally, explain expected outcomes for the client based on these therapeutic approaches. Support your approach with evidence-based literature.

Greeks, Hindu, and Cuban have different beliefs regarding cultural and health care beliefs. Comparing their cultures helps to distinguish the health care believes and cultural practices of the communities. The Greeks and the Hindu seem to have a significant influence on the Cuban people’s cultural beliefs in terms of health care. The culture of Cuban people relies on the cultural practices of Greek and Hindu when seeking health care services (Purnell, 2013). Cuban go for biomedical care to handle organic diseases, which help them to be in a better part as opposed to the Greek and Hindu who have little trust in the health care providers. The comparison of the three cultures shows that Greek and Hindu rarely trust in health care professionals from other communities while Cuban have in trust in biomedical care.

The majority of the Greeks ignore various healthcare standards, and they have their way of promoting health care practices. Greeks have numerous health care means of preventing pregnancies by use pills for controlling birth and condoms (Purnell & Fenkl, 2019). They believe that engagement in abortion affects individuals’ health status and even endangering the lives of mothers. Some communities among the Greeks have biomedical means ahs education level that prevents them from adapting to other health care practices. Hindu has different cultural beliefs when it comes to health care practices. They believe that conducting physical examination traumatizes women due to the various processes involved in providing health care services that yield expected results. The Hindu believes that different types of suffering due to illness bring hope to the community members, which are necessary for their lives (Mendoza & Lopez, 2017). Most of the three cultures’ beliefs are influenced by their different cultural practices tied to their rituals.

When comparing the level in which each community seeks help from other cultures, Greeks rarely trust healthcare professionals, and the same applies to the Hindu. Hindu relies mostly on the community and family to find solutions for health care problems. Cubans also rely on their families for advice on matters regarding their health, which helps them to be better than their counterparts (Purnell, 2013). Cubans seem to have been influenced by other cultures, which show that they can copy different beliefs in health care. Hindus believe that traditional health systems emphasize illness prevention; hence members of the society develop their unique perspective of creating awareness of their needs. Their practice makes it easier for them to meet their health demands. The Hindu practice of disease prevention has influenced the Cubans who believe profoundly in preventing diseases than treatment (Rausenberger, 2018). The Hindus also use traditional healers to enhance outcomes of their health hence making them better in society.  That practice has also influenced Cubans who seek traditional healers to improve outcomes of their health, such as applying traditional herbs in tea. Cubans have shops specifically for selling traditional herbs in which were adapted from Greeks and Hindus cultures.

Greeks have a cultural belief of accepting the donation of organs, which is also practiced by the Hindu, who is famous for organ transplantation, especially the kidney. The majority of people in Greek and Hindu communities are involved in the practices of donating organs through medical procedures (Purnell, 2013). The Cubans also accept donation and transplant of organs and blood transfusions a practice they adopted from the Hindu and Greeks. Hindus believe that treatment and rituals performance can be used to enhance health outcomes for various people in society. Cubans have copied the practice as they perform rituals to improve the health outcomes of various society members. The cultural heritage of Hindu and Greeks is the same. Different people in their cultures are involved in different cultural practices, such as engaging in folk remedies (Purnell, 2013). The ritual practices are performed by various people at home to provide prevention against different diseases. The rituals performed by Hindus and Greeks at home help to improve the health outcomes of various people. The same practice has been seen in the Cuban heritage due to the influence of Greek and Hindu. Cubans perform folk remedies where Santeria improves the health outcomes of various people in Cuban society (Rausenberger, 2018).

In conclusion, different communities and different cultural beliefs regarding health care practices in which some end up being influenced by the communities they interact with. Cubans have been greatly influenced by the health care practices by the Greeks and Hindus. Most of their practices are adapted from Greek and Hindu. The practice of blood transfusion and organ transplant by Cuban is adapted from Greek and Hindu as they highly accept the practice. Greeks and Hindu rarely trust health professionals, making them rely on their traditional practices tied to their rituals. Cubans have also adapted the use of traditional medicine through the use of herbs. Various people in Cuban society have opened shops that deal with traditional herbs, a practice copied from Greek and Hindu. The health care practices among Cubans seem to have been copied from Greek and Hindu.

Discussion Post

When conducting research validity is an important aspect that needs to be guaranteed in order to justify results. This concept stresses the importance and relevance of the measurements used during the research. Reliability and validity are two concepts that are intertwined and both combine to bring consistency to the research (Polit & Beck, 2016). Validity focuses on how the method used measures what needs to be measured therefore, it is a fundamental part of the research (Middleton, 2019).

Validity can be guaranteed by assessing the different methods used. It may present difficulties but it can be estimated through a series of tests. Test-retest is a way to verify if the results obtained in an interview in a group of people remains the same a few months later (Long, 2017).

Validity can also be guaranteed by assessing construct, content and criterion (Middleton, 2019). These three types of validity assessment strive to proof that the measures used for these concepts as well as others that may be related to them yield the same results thus, making it valid and feasible. Conducting an evaluation of the measures employed can ultimately confirm the validity of the methods used.

Validity and feasibility are measures of importance of data collected based on the tools used for this purpose. Validity refers to the extent to which a tool of data collection measures what it should measure. A valid tool should ensure that the differences found within the tools of measurements reflect true differences among what is measured. Feasibility is the measure of whether a study can be done by the use available resources. Feasibility considers a variety of factors including availability of time, study participants, cooperation by other, presence of equipment and facilities, availability of money and the experience of the researcher (Polit & Beck, 2017). In mixed method research, it is possible to achieve both validity and feasibility of research.

The mixed method is an approach to research that integrates qualitative and quantitative data in one study of through a coordination of a number of cluster studies. Mixed method research is important for eliminating contradictions between qualitative findings and quantitative results (Parvaiz, Mufti & Wahab, 2016). By reflecting the viewpoints of participants, the mixed method approach ensures that study findings are grounded in the experiences of participants.

To ensure validity and feasibility, the mixed method research uses two or more methods to collect data. As such, if any of these two methods has a problem with validity, they can be counterbalanced through triangulation (Gibson, 2017). Secondly, through complementarity, the mixed method approach, the researcher can avoid limitations with one method and ensure feasibility of their research. Thirdly, by incrementality, the researcher can use qualitative research through qualitative research and test using the quantitative approach (Polit & Beck, 2017). As such, there is an enhanced validity as the model or hypothesis is supported by multiple and complementary data types.
