The leadership project is an activity designed to assist students in applying concepts,theories, and principles learned in NUR4827C Leadership in Nursing. You should develop this project in conjunction with your professor This will be in response to an identified need based on your own clinical practice.  Please do not use staffing, patient acuity, or any issues such as these for your project. These issues can not be changed by a staff nurse; it is out of scope of your practice.

Based on the AACN’ Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Nursing, 2009), the student will identify a quality care or patient safety issue that exists in their clinical setting and create a proposal with goals, objectives, and strategies to address the issue.  This project will integrate and demonstrate leadership and/ or management qualities which include:

• identification of the problem, data collection, research review and interprofessional communication.
• Included are elements of budgeting, staffing, staff and patient satisfaction, and measurable elements that can be evaluated. 
• The project will require collaboration with quality councils, finance, nursing and other departments. 
• The proposed project may be presented to the leadership of the facility. 
• Course faculty will guide the students in completion of this assignment.  Your implementation and measurement strategies must be developed from evidence-based literature and be presented in correct APA format.

PROPOSAL – 100 POINTS 

The project will first be  written in the format of a proposal paper and submitted to your professor for approval. It must be approved by your professor. The proposal should include the following:

• How the need was identified and the significance for nursing practice.

• Specific, Measurable, and realistic Goals of the Project

Please select a personal health behavior that you would like to change. Examples of health behaviors could include lifestyle changes to improve physical health (e.g. changing sleep habits, drinking more water, eating healthier, exercising more, etc.)  or mental health (e.g. managing stress, engaging in healthy social relationships, etc.). Prior to completing this assignment, you must complete your own research to find a court case. Log in to the NAU Library and locate the Nexis Uni database. There, search for a court case that involved a negligence suit against a health care corporation on the basis of respondeat superior. In other words, you will be looking for a case where a plaintiff alleged that a corporation’s employee committed a negligent act within the course and scope of employment. The plaintiff is thus attempting to hold the defendant corporation liable for the employee’s conduct. (Please be sure that the case you choose is NOT a case you are already using for the term paper assignment.) 

Directions

Using the court case you found through your own research, respond to the questions below:

1.What were the allegations against the defendant? What is the employ alleged to have done that constituted negligence?

2.Was there any dispute that the alleged acts of the employee occurred within the course and scope of employment? If so, what factors did the court discuss in deciding that question?

3.Imagine you are an administrator at the defendant corporation. How would you have reacted when your company was first served with this lawsuit? What steps would you have taken to investigate the allegations? What policy or procedure changes, if any, might you think about implementing to prevent a similar occurrence in the future?

Choose one of the formats below in which to submit your assignment:

.A 2-page paper of no fewer than 500 words, written in APA style with all references cited;

.A PowerPoint presentation of no fewer than five slides, not including a title slide and reference slide. You must include at least three visual elements such as diagrams, images, or illustrations; or
