An academic and professional portfolio can also help you to build your own vision and mission and establish your development goals. In this regard, a portfolio becomes yet another tool in your toolbox as you build your success.

In this Assignment you will continue developing your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan by developing the fifth component: a portfolio for your academic and professional efforts.

Review the IOM report, “The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health,” and explore the “Campaign for Action: State Action Coalition” website. In a 1,000-1,250 word paper, discuss the influence the IOM report and state-based action coalitions have had on nursing practice, nursing education, and nursing workforce development, and how they continue to advance the goals for the nursing profession.

Include the following:

1. Describe the work of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Committee Initiative that led to the IOM report, “Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health.”
2. Outline the four “Key Messages” that structure the IOM Report recommendations. Explain how these have transformed or influenced nursing practice, nursing education and training, nursing leadership, and nursing workforce development. Provide examples.

Case Studies, Chapter 14, Nursing Management During Labor and Birth

1. Desiree, a 28-year-old G2P1, is admitted to the labor and birth unit. Her birth plan indicates that she is planning natural childbirth without pharmacologic interventions. She has attended childbirth education classes. Desiree is considered low risk based on her personal and family health history and physical exam. Her pregnancy has progressed without complications. She is approximately 38 weeks pregnant. Vaginal assessment reveals cervical dilation at 10 cm, 100% effaced, and +1 station. Position of the fetus is LOA. The external fetal monitor indicates a reassuring fetal heart rate at 130 bpm. Maternal status is stable. (Learning Objectives 1, 2, 5, and 8)

1. Based on the vaginal assessment, identify the stage of      labor and appropriate nursing interventions for this stage of labor.
2. Explain how the nurse determined that the external fetal      monitor would be appropriate for Desiree. What factors would necessitate a      change to internal fetal monitoring during labor?

2. Emily, a 26-year-old G3P2, has been in labor for 5 hours and is 7 cm, 90% effaced, and +2 station. She has external fetal monitoring in place, which reveals a baseline fetal heart rate of 120 bpm, minimal variability, and occasional variable decelerations. Suddenly, as a contraction is beginning to subside, the fetal heart rate drops to a low of 80 bpm and has a slow return to the baseline 1 minute after the contraction has ended. Phase 3-Implementation (Due by WEEK 9) Phase 3 of the research project is the implementation phase. The implementation phase will be written in the future state as we will not be implementing the actual project. This phase focuses on providing steps by steps instructions on how the program will be implemented, a table describing the time frame of the project, if there is any budget that needs to be taking into account, and any resources or statistically tools required. The length of this paper should be around 5-6 pages.

student 1. The target population that I am studying for this course is the Hispanic population in Florida. I plan to use sources such as local government websites such as the Florida Department of Health, to get a further understanding of health behaviors among the Hispanic population in Florida. 

          There are many sources to gain the knowledge that I need to understand the behaviors of the Hispanic population in Florida, different sources will offer different information to get the best understanding. Journal articles will be beneficial to gain knowledge from people who work around the topic, websites are also beneficial to gaining information because there are many government websites that share valid information. Looking at news reports on the topic can give information about specific communities and further information about how the people in the community feel and how the behaviors of the target population is having a negative effect on their health.

student 2. The target population I’m exploring to get a better understanding of behaviors is the Hispanic/Latino population in Waukegan, IL.  The sources I plan to utilize will be peer reviewed, scholarly journals, local websites, and case studies.

Waukegan, IL population have over 87.6 thousand people. A majority of the resident there, 55.6 percent, are Hispanic/Latino (Data USA, n.d.). Many are undocumented and lack health insurance coverage. Utilizing peer review sources and scholarly journals will provide scholarly reviews writing and reviewed by experts. This will help to ensure my presentation has articles of good quality and scientifically valid.

The best way to address the health issues that affect the Hispanic population is to get a clear understanding of how they think and other factors such as the biological, behavioral, physical, and socioenvironmental areas (Institute of Medicine, 2002). So, when developing my presentation, I plan to use local websites such press releases, new reports, and case studies to reach and engage the Hispanic community and community leaders.
