Personal Health Assesment. I Will Provide My Weight And Other Personal Things To Make It Fit To Me – 2025

Prepare a report to assess your personal health status and possible associated health risks.

Your report should include the following 6 parts:

  1. Please provide the information that is relevant to this assignment based on your physical characteristics and behavior.  You will decide on a PA (Physical Activity) factor. Justify the number you chose based upon your level of physical activity.
  2. Calculate the individual energy requirements (EER) using the appropriate equation for the age and gender. Please refer to page 521 (Section 14.3) of your textbook  (“What’s Your Estimated Energy Requirement?”) for further details and the calculation equations.  Be sure to provide the appropriate equation, and list each of the variables (height, weight, age, and physical activity level). Convert weight and height into kilograms and meters. Show every step of your calculations!
  3. Calculate your BMI (body mass index) using one of the formulas provided on page 527 of the textbook (Section 14.5). You can also use “How To Determine BMI” on page 249 as a reference. Be sure to provide the equation you used, the variables, and show every step of your calculations! According to the 14.10 (“What’s Your BMI?”, page 528), what is your assessment of your BMI?
  4. Waist circumference measurement and assessment. Use a tape to measure your waist circumference at the level of the belly button. List your measurement. According to the information in your textbook concerning waist circumference and health risks (p. 526 in Section 14.4), provide an assessment of your waist circumference.
  5. Provide a brief summary of your family medical history. Include close family members (parents, brothers/sisters, children) as well as extended family members (grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins, etc.). Do any of the family members have diabetes? High blood pressure? Heart disease? High cholesterol levels? Cancer?  Given your medical history and the results of your calculations of body weight and body fat distribution in the steps above, explain whether you are at risk for developing heart disease, cancer, and/or diabetes – either now or in the future.
  6. Consider the knowledge you have gained from this activity and from the readings of Chapter 14 and Chapter 15 on weight control. What is your assessment of your body weight? Do you believe you should lose/maintain/gain weight? And if so, how much weight should you lose/gain? Provide justification for your response.

Unlike Florence Nightingale, I was not raised from a wealthy family; our family was considered middle-class but conversely, Nightingale and I “were expected to get married at a young age, however, received a calling from God to help the sick and the poor” (Alexander, 2019). Nightingale and Walden mission, goals and social change initiatives relate to my professional and academic goals and to me becoming a scholar-practitioner because Walden “is always increasing access to higher education, and applying research thereby advancing the greater global good” (Walden, 2021).

Nurse Managers and nurse leaders are the ones who are responsible for the changing of strategies to improve quality and patient care experiences. They are the ones that need to realize there is a problem, work with their departments to brainstorm ideas to change, and implement the change effectively. Change is not something that one person can do alone but the nurse manager and leaders of the department need to be the ones actively involved with the process. Leaders use a variety of different strategies, as defined by our text, to complete the process. Some of these strategies are: collaboration, facilitation of learning, delegation, coordination, shared governance, incorporation of quality and safety, and evaluation (Helbig, 2018).

Nurse leaders and managers contribute extensively to changing the health care system for now and the future. Burke (2016 para 2) affirmed this position in this statement: “nurses are professionals with the capacity and responsibility to influence current and future healthcare delivery systems” (as cited in Grand Canyon University, 2018). Nurse leaders and managers contribute to reforms in health care through the utilization of their knowledge and skills to influence nursing practice to promote quality care delivery, patient safety and satisfaction. This is achieved through the following strategies:

  1. Influencing policies: Policies are formulated to shape and reform healthcare delivery. Nurse leaders participate this process of reengineering healthcare by influencing those policies that are aimed at bringing about this change. A report by the Institute of Medicine (2011) on the future of nursing therefore recommended that nurses take up leadership roles to be able to impact healthcare policies that will promote quality and safe care (as cited in GCU, 2018).
  2. Workflow: Nurse leaders can also contribute to changing the healthcare system through workflow. Workflow is the process an organization or people use to complete tasks to achieve a set goal. It is the way “people get work done” with sequential steps form the initiation to the end of the task (Brandall, 2018). According to GCU (2018), workflows in health care organizations often depend on nursing which gives nurse the opportunity to impact how healthcare is delivered. (GCU, 2018). Cain & Haque (2008) observed that an organization with a good workflow can easily reach their goals and targets in a “timely manner, leading to care that is delivered more consistently, reliably, safely, and in compliance with standards of practice” (as cited in GCU, 2018).
  3. Clinical inquiry: This is all about asking questions regarding nursing practice. Nursing leaders and managers use clinical inquiries to determine lapses in nursing practice and develop quality improvement interventions and evidence-based practices to improve nursing care (GCU, 2018).

Topic : Strategies for detecting elderly abuse in nursing homes

1. Based on the information collected in the Research Method, formulate the Results section of your selected topic. Do not forget that your Results section needs to provide a visual (table, graphic, figure, etc.) and a narrative paragraph that helps your reader understand the information presented in the visual. Please do not interpret the results!

2. Post your Results.

Results Methods

For this study, a meta-analysis method was performed to synthesize different results found between various studies. The researcher accessed the A Virtual library through the MRU home page. Then, the research accessed into EBSCOhost databases and selected both MEDLINE Complete and CINAHL Complete. An advanced search was done , for which the following keywords were entered in the Boolean search: “Elderly Abuse”  and  ”Nursing Home” The search was limited to references providing full text, peer reviewed, and abstract available. A limitation was set for research published within the last five years, from 2015 to 2020.  In Addition, researcher viewed only articles published in English. The search provided access to a total of 288 articles, which only five (5) studies were selected based on their relevance with the topic; the other 283 were discarded.

Week 3: Ethical Considerations

Translation of a research-based intervention to practice involves a critical review of numerous published research studies to discern if individuals – research subjects – were treated according to the ethical values and principles as defined by the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). Reflect upon your selected practice problem and the eventual research-based intervention you select for your practice change project and address the following.

• What are the potential benefits and harms related to your selected practice problem when considering a research-based intervention for your practice change project?

• Are there competing personal or professional values related to this research-based intervention that might impact the implementation of this intervention in your practice setting?

• What types of objections might be raised? How will you explain your decision to key stakeholders to address these objections?

Please review the Graduate Discussion Grading Guidelines and Rubric (Links to an external site.) for complete discussion requirements.

Discussion Prompt(s)

Jonathan Kirkpatrick recently was hired as a nursing manager in an acute care hospital for orthopedics, neurology, and two medical-surgical units for a for-profit corporation. Nurse Kirkpatrick is responsible for the quality, cost, and morale of the units that he manages. As part of his employment package, he is rewarded with a bonus based on the amount of money that he is able to save the hospital.

One of the first things Nurse Kirkpatrick is asked to do in his new position is to “cut the fat” out of staff numbers. The corporation that owns the hospital believes there are too many nurses on the payroll. Personally, although he does not say so upfront, Nurse Kirkpatrick disagrees. He believes the nurses currently on staff are all needed for quality of care. As he looks for ways to cut these numbers, what concerns might he raise to make administrative staff aware of the risks? Identify both ethical concerns and potential legal concerns

Remember that part of being in leadership is to advocate for employees and balance the requirements of the job.
