Introduction to Basic Statistics | 2025 Custom Writing
Assignment 2: CorrelationAs a consumer of research, you know that relationships are of critical importance. You must first know if a relationship exists between two variables before you can determine if one variable may account for another. In this week’s Learning Resources, you learned about correlations, which are used to determine if two variables are related to one another. You also learned that you cannot infer causation from a significant correlation alone. For example, you might find that years of education and salary are related, but that does not tell you if more education causes your salary to increase. In correlational studies, you cannot show that one variable causes a change in another variable. To determine causation, an experimental design is needed. However, correlations can demonstrate that as one variable increases, another tends to increase as well (positive relationship). You also may find that as one variable increases, the other tends to decrease (negative relationship). You may even find that there is no relationship at all between variables.Recall the researcher who investigated the relationship between hours of sleep and reaction times in the Week 4 Application. As a follow up to that study, the researcher wants to conduct a correlation to investigate further if there is a relationship between hours of sleep and reaction time. For this experiment, participants are allowed to sleep as much as they would like (that is, they are not assigned to sleep any specific number of hours). When 20 participants come to their appointment time, they report to the researcher how many hours of sleep they had the previous night. The researcher then tests their reaction times. You can find the data for this Assignment in the Weekly Data Set forum found in the Discussions area of the course navigation menu.SEE ATTACHED DOCUMENT FOR DATA SETBy Day 7To complete this Assignment, submit your answers to the following. Use SPSS to determine if amount of sleep is related to reaction time. Before computing the correlation, state the null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis in words (not formulas).Based on the hypotheses you stated, explain whether the researcher should conduct a one-tailed or two-tailed test.Identify the correlation coefficient (r) for this data set using SPSS and report it in your answer document.State the degrees of freedom and explain how you calculated it by hand.Identify the p value using SPSS and report it in your answer document.Explain whether the researcher should retain or reject the null hypothesis. Are the results statistically significant? Explain how you know.Explain what the researcher can conclude about the relationship between amount of sleep and reaction times. Include a description of the direction (positive, negative, or no relationship) and strength (weak, moderate, or strong) of the relationship.Be sure to fully explain the rationale for your answer to each question, including evidence from the text and Learning Resources.Provide an APA reference list.Submit three documents for grading:Your text (Word) document with your answers and explanations to the assignment questions, your SPSS Data file, and your SPSS Output file.

Wk5Discussion | 2025 Custom Writing
Before you begin this assignment please read carefully there are two parts to this discussion and the reading is attache as well.Week 5: Biological and Behaviorist TheoriesRecall the factors you studied in Week 1 that influence personality. They include genetic determinants, environmental determinants, culture, social class, family, and peers. Looking at that list, it is fairly easy to distinguish what would be considered “biological” and what would be more “behaviorist” in influence. As you begin this week, you may want to return to your Week 1 Discussion post and reflect on which factor or combination of factors stood out to you as the biggest influence on personality development. It may tell you where you naturally lean in the “nature versus nurture” debate that has fascinated psychologists for decades. This week you will continue your exploration of theories of personality by delving into biological and behaviorist theories. You will examine different views on whether personality traits are lasting or can change over time, and, in your Assignment this week, consider how fraternal twins raised in the same household could have opposite likes, preferences, and overall personalities. As you have in every week, you will work to expand your understanding of people and personality by evaluating the effectiveness of biological and behaviorist theories in explaining human behavior.Learning ObjectivesStudents will:Analyze biological theories to understanding of temperamentAnalyze behaviorist theories to understanding of temperamentEvaluate biological and behaviorist theories as explanations of human behaviorCompare biological and behaviorist theoriesApply biological and behaviorist theories in explaining personality differencesEvaluate effectiveness of biological and behaviorist theories in explaining human behaviorDemonstrate an understanding of biological and behaviorist theoriesLearning ResourcesNote: To access this week’s required library resources, please click on the link to the Course Readings List, found in the Course Materials section of your Syllabus.Required ReadingsCervone, D., & Pervin, L. With that definition in mind, recall the results of your personality trait assessment in Week 4 and, based on what you know about yourself as a young child, consider how many of those traits have described your personality since early childhood. Were there traits revealed on the assessment that you had never connected to yourself, or ones that seem to have evolved as you have grown older?Your Discussion post this week is not dependent on those answers, but they may help you in sorting out biological and behaviorist theories of personality and arriving at your views on which—biology or environment—has more influence on temperament. In other words, will traits a child shows at birth be lasting, or do outside influences play a greater role in shaping temperament? For this Discussion, you will explore the concept of temperament and how it is viewed from biological and behaviorist perspectives. You will also need to take a position and defend it. Note that the reading in the text this week is different from other chapters, as the authors state. It is less a discussion of theories and more a presentation of scientific findings, which you can use to support your point of view. You are also required to find an additional scholarly resource not included in the Learning Resources to bolster your pro-biology or pro-environment perspective. Begin now to prepare to join this longstanding debate: Does nature or nurture have more influence on temperament? To prepare:Review the Learning Resources for this week.Consider how biological and behaviorist theories apply to your experience with temperament—both your own and that of others you know well.Based on the Learning Resources and your experience, take a position on whether biology or environment is more influential in explaining temperament.Research in the Walden Library or other sources for a scholarly resource that provides additional evidence for your position.By Day 3Post a response that includes the following:In your own words, explain how temperament is viewed from the biological and behaviorist perspectives.State your position on whether biology or environment is more influential in shaping and explaining an individual’s temperament. Support your position with findings from the Learning Resources, the scholarly resource that you found, and examples from your experienceNote: Be sure to support the responses within your initial Discussion post (and in your colleague reply) with information obtained from the assigned Learning Resources, including in-text citations and a reference list for sources used. For information regarding how your Discussion will be evaluated, please review the grading rubric located in the Course Information area of the course.By Day 5Respond to at least one of your colleagues in one or more of the following ways:Ask a probing question and provide insight into how you would answer your question and why.Ask a probing question and provide the foundation, or rationale, for the question.Expand on your colleague’s posting by offering a new perspective or insight.Agree with a colleague and offer additional (new) supporting information for consideration.Disagree with a colleague by respectfully discussing and supporting a different perspective.Support your reply to a colleague’s post with at least one reference (textbook or other scholarly, empirical resources). You may state your opinion and/or provide personal examples; however, you must also back up your assertions with evidence (including in-text citations) from the source and provide a reference.Submission and Grading InformationGrading CriteriaTo access your rubric:Week 5 Discussion RubricPost by Day 3 and Respond by Day 5To participate in this Discussion:Week 5 Discussion

IRB | 2025 Custom Writing
MOCK IRB APPLICATION EXERCISE-PT. 2Psychological experiments that are conducted on human or animal subjects must go through a review by an administrative body known as an Institutional Review Board (IRB). Approval must be gained by an IRB before a study can be funded or conducted. Researchers, whether they are faculty, students, or other affiliated personnel, must complete a detailed application that is presented to the IRB for its review.APUS has an IRB, much like that of any research-producing university or institution. Attached you will find an amended version of the actual application that researchers must submit to the IRB in advance of conducting psychological research. ***This is a mock version of the application. You are not actually submitting anything to the real APUS IRB while conducting this exercise. For Part 2 of this exercise, you will use the same readings and information that you used in Part 1 earlier in the semester. These are experiments that have already been conducted and published. Several are “classic” experiments in social psychology of which you should already be aware. You will read the published information carefully and then you will take the knowledge gleaned from the readings to complete the IRB application AS IF you were the Principal Investigator applying for approval to conduct the study. For some of the questions included on the application, you may need to “stretch” your knowledge a bit. For example, the published readings may say that college students were given extra credit for participation, but may not go into a lot of detail regarding the process used to recruit those students. In such a situation, you may need to use your imagination to fill in some blanks. In addition, please remember that the goal here is to put yourself in the principal investigator’s shoes at the time that he/she conducted the experiment. If the experiment was conducted in the 1970s, for example, remember that the standards for human experimentation were different back then. Answer the questions as the investigator WOULD have answered them (based upon what you read about the experiment), not as they SHOULD have answered them based upon today’s ethical standards.Assignment Instructions (Please complete both #1 and #2 below)1. After carefully reading your article (remember, use the same article you used in Part 1 of this exercise), please complete the attached document. The attached document is editable, so please place your responses directly into the document. Be sure to save the document on your hard drive and then upload it into the slot for the assignment.2. After completing the Mock IRB Assignment-Part 2, please answer the following questions in a 3-page Word Document (.docx format) and upload as an attachment to the slot for the assignment.a. What was the most challenging section of the Mock IRB Application-Part 2 to complete? Why was it challenging?b. Were there any sections of the Mock IRB Application-Part 2 that you felt the authors of your article did not adequately address (either in terms of not doing it or not addressing it in their write-up of their Method/Procedure)?c. If you were actually the Principal Investigator of this study, what might you do differently in order to adequately address all the questions asked on Part 2 of this Mock IRB Application?d. How do you think ethical standards have changed (if at all) since the Principal Investigator of your chosen study filled out his/her own IRB Application?

– Using the definition Awareness of sensation and perception to explain why or why not dolphins have consciousness!- two to three paragraph explanation- Specify the definition you are using. Then demonstrate appropriate application of that definition.- You should describe the creature you are exploring and its behavior for those unfamiliar with it.- Stick to behaviors that are relevant to whether the creature has consciousness or not under your chosen definition.- The behavior must be observable! You declaring that a creature “looks fearful/happy/sad” is not on observation, it’s an opinion.- Present arguments that illustrates your position.* For example, “Research has shown (citation if available can help) that Orangutans can recognize themselves in the mirror and realize the image they see is a reflection of themselves. Personality Theory[WLOs: 2, 3, 4, 5] [CLOs: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5]For your Final Paper, you will identify and synthesize the concepts and constructs of personality theory that you find to be the most accurate and appropriate in explaining personality and development.Throughout the course, you have engaged, probed, picked apart, and evaluated the thinking of a large number of theorists who wrote during different historical periods from different disciplinary, paradigmatic, and ideological perspectives. Based on different realms of human experience, the theorists moved toward a fundamental understanding of a single topic and fundamental question: What is the human personality, and, more generally, what makes us what we are as individuals and as a species? You have already begun this task by identifying what you feel are the most compelling concepts in the first four of the seven theoretical models covered in the course during the Week 3 Primary Concepts assignment. You will continue that process in the first part of this Personality Theory Final Paper by identifying what you find to be the most compelling concepts in the remaining three models. Then you will continue that assessment by synthesizing the concepts of personality thatBest explain the roles of heredity and environment.Provide the best means of assessing personality.Provide the best theoretical explanation for your personal journey of personality development.Provide the most useful applications for you as a scholar and professional.Your paper should be organized according to the following scheme, with sections organized under the following APA-formatted headings. Address the following specifications for each heading. (For instructions on writing proper headings and other document elements, see the Ashford University Writing Center’sAPA Style Elements (Links to an external site.).)In your paper, include the following:IntroductionStart your paper with a general, academic introduction to the topic of theories of personality.Explain what you plan to cover and the direction your paper will take.Major ConceptsIn Week 3, you identified what you considered to be the most important concepts from the psychodynamic, the neurobiological, the cognitive, and the trait models of personality. In this section of the Final Paper, you will present a concept from each of the remaining three models—behavioral, interpersonal, and self-psychology models. For each of these three concepts:Apply a proper APA heading to separate the section.Describe the concept.Identify the theorist associated with the concept.Provide a rationale for why the selected concept is the most applicable from that model.Keep in mind that the object of this assignment is to identify and discuss a specific concept from each model and not to focus on just one model or provide overviews of the models per se.The Roles of Heredity and EnvironmentIn this class, we have explored the roles heredity, the environment, and epigenetics play in the development of personality. In this section,Synthesize your views on how heredity and the environment affect personality development.Assessment in Personality TheoryIn this section, reflect on the various methods for assessing personality that have been presented in this course, and select one that you feel is most useful.Describe briefly the assessment method that you believe is most useful in assessing personality.Justify your selection of this method.Personal ApplicationsIn this section of the paper, reflect on your personality and address the following items:Identify which of the seven models best explains your developmental journey.Provide at least one specific example of an element or elements of your personality that are explained by your selected model.Career ApplicationsIn this section, consider how you can use the knowledge from this course as a professional, addressing the following item:Explain how you can use the knowledge you have gained about personality development to help achieve your career goals.ConclusionProvide a brief conclusion, addressing the following:Summarize the ideas presented in your synthesis of, and reflection on, personality theory. The Personality Theory Final PaperMust be eight to ten double-spaced pages in length (not including title and references pages) and must use proper APA headings with all document and citation formatting according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center’sAPA Style (Links to an external site.)Must include a separate title page with the following:Title of paperStudent’s nameCourse name and numberInstructor’s nameDate submittedFor further assistance with the formatting and the title page, refer toAPA Formatting for Word 2013 (Links to an external site.).Must utilize academic voice.
