Overview: 

As the above quotes from famous writers explain, successful writers are successful revisers. Writing courses often don’t build in time to allow for revision, leaving the false impression that effective writing can actually happen in a few days or weeks. Thus, your final and major project of this course asks you to take all that you have learned about writing processes, composing, and research in order to revise your researched argument.  You may use writing you produced in your first draft, but if the paper does not change significantly, then your essay grade will be lowered. Your goal for this paper should be to improve your argument and to improve your presentation (tone, sentence structure, organization) of that argument. This paper should be a minimum of eight pages and use a minimum of eight sources (five of which have to be academic/government). 

What is revision? Revision involves making global changes to your writing. It involves deleting, moving, and rewriting large parts (if not all) of your previous drafts. It often means doing new research, finding new ways to discuss your topic, and even starting fresh—only pulling words from your first draft when absolutely necessary (and even then those words might need to change). Revising is not the same as editing and proofreading. Editing and proofreading focus on sentences, words, and correctness. Revision focuses on making meaning and on the overall organization and development of your argument.

This is the culmination of all of our work this term and is worth 35% of the semester grade.

The Process: 

This assignment is going to ask you to complete a number of steps in order to improve your essay. 

1. Create a reverse outline of your argument. 
2. Create a revision plan and meet with your instructor to discuss it. 
3. Do new research. Find new sources to support your argument (the reverse outline should help you identify the type of research you need to do in order to support your claims). 
4. Rewrite and revise! 
5. Edit and proofread. 

Requirements: 

• Eight to ten full pages (excluding works cited)
• Must include eight sources, of which five must be academic or government sources 
• MLA format 
• Topic related to Memphis (unless you are out of the area, in which case you may argue a topic in your own area.)

 

Emily, a 3-year-old toddler, presents to the pediatrician’s office for her yearly physical. Her mother and 6-month-old brother accompany her. Emily’s brother was seen first for immunizations and a checkup, and now it is Emily’s turn for an exam and immunization check. The nurse notes that Emily’s immunizations are up-to-date (she received the pneumonia vaccine in the fall, as well as her yearly flu shot). Emily’s mother reports that her daughter is doing well in preschool and has had no illnesses since the last visit. Vital signs: T 98.6 P 122 R 20 BP 90/40. Emily is clinging to her mother; she is visibly upset, crying and shouting, “Please don’t let them give me boo boo shot!”

Instructions for Leadership Change Paper:

Observe your environment in the health care facility where you have clinical and monitor the site for signs and symptoms of the need for change. Look at the nursing processes in place: do they work efficiently, are infection control practices being done routinely. Anything can be a catalyst for change as long as it adds something positive to the establishment. Then, diagnose the problem that indicates a need for change.

1. Pick a change theory. Lewin’s change theory is used widely in nursing. Despite this fact, there are many other change theories you can use like Spradley’s theory of change, Lippitts change theory or Roger’s theory of change. Pick the ones that best suit the change you are trying to bring about. 

 

2.Put a plan together. Using your selected change theory, develop a plan based on each step of the theory you have chosen. Your plan should address what you will do to solve the problem you have diagnosed. It should include activities that will combat the problem and bring about change, a method to measure the success of the plan such as a quiz and a way to make the change permanent. Be sure to include a timeline or timetable for your change project. It needs to have a beginning and an end.

3. Type a 4-5 page double-spaced, APA formatted professional paper that describes your project and submit to your instructor at the end of the semester. 

The paper has to include:

o An introduction: Brief description of the issue & Purpose of the paper 

o Assessment of the environment which needs to be changed: Current practice, organizational structure, deriving and restraining forces, advantages of change, cost and resources for implementing the change.

o Planning: Goals of change, phases of change, timeline, how you will mobilize the driving forces and minimize the restraining forces and plan of evaluation

o Implementation: Needed training and education and methods

o Evaluation.

o Conclusion

The practice of health care providers at all levels brings you into contact with people from a variety of faiths. This calls for knowledge and acceptance of a diversity of faith expressions.

The purpose of this paper is to complete a comparative ethical analysis of George’s situation and decision from the perspective of two worldviews or religions: Christianity and a second religion of your choosing. For the second faith, choose a faith that is unfamiliar to you. Examples of faiths to choose from include Sikh, Baha’i, Buddhism, Shintoism, etc.

In your comparative analysis, address all of the worldview questions in detail for Christianity and your selected faith. Refer to Chapter 2 of Called to Care for the list of questions. Once you have outlined the worldview of each religion, begin your ethical analysis from each perspective.

In a minimum of 1,500-2,000 words, provide an ethical analysis based upon the different belief systems, reinforcing major themes with insights gained from your research, and answering the following questions based on the research:

1. How would each religion interpret the nature of George’s malady and suffering? Is there a “why” to his disease and suffering? (i.e., is there a reason for why George is ill, beyond the reality of physical malady?)
2. In George’s analysis of his own life, how would each religion think about the value of his life as a person, and value of his life with ALS?
3. What sorts of values and considerations would each religion focus on in deliberating about whether or not George should opt for euthanasia?
4. Given the above, what options would be morally justified under each religion for George and why?
5. Finally, present and defend your own view.

Support your position by referencing at least three academic resources (preferably from the GCU Library) in addition to the course readings, lectures, the Bible, and the textbooks for each religion. Each religion must have a primary source included. A total of six references are required according to the specifications listed above. Incorporate the research into your writing in an appropriate, scholarly manner.
