Managers act in a role of authority, direct their personnel through planning, controlling, directing, and staffing the organization without much involvement or feedback from staff. Even though management and leadership have distinct differences, these two concepts are intertwined and often overlap. For example, nurse managers are active in a leadership role when they influence a group during the staff meeting to achieve its objectives and encourage feedback to achieve set goals. Leaders are involved in management when they are involved in planning, controlling, organizing, and staffing, the unit. To facilitate change a nurse leader must be proactive, innovative and be capable of empowering and influence others. Finally, leaders are influencers that can be great influencers for positive change.
