Course Project Milestone – Topic Selection And Discussion 2025

Required Resources Read/review the following resources for this activity: Textbook: Chapter 5, 6 Lesson Minimum of 2 scholarly sources (in addition to the course textbook) Instructions This assignment is the first step in a three part project. You only need to focus on part one at this point. Each step will build on earlier steps. However, it is not a matter of providing a rough draft of all or even part of the entire project here in week three. That is, further steps might require completely new and original text. At the same time, completing each step will aid you in completing a future step or future steps. And, you should use the same topic in all steps. First, select a topic of moral controversy, debate, disagreement, and dispute, Examples of such topics are euthanasia, the death penalty, abortion, cloning, etc. You can pick any such topic. It need not be listed here. Next, detail the positions of each side of the ethical debate. Note at least two moral reasons each side presents to show their view on the topic is correct. Now, we want to evaluate these positions using the moral theories we studied this week: What would an Ethical Egoist say about this topic? What side would the Ethical Egoist take? What would the Ethical Egoist say to justify their moral position? Is there a conflict between loyalty to self and to community relevant to your topic? If so, how so? Note what you feel is the best course of action. What would a Social Contract Ethicist say about this topic? What side would the Social Contract Ethicist take? What would the Social Contract Ethicist say to justify their moral position? Does your topic involve a collision between personal obligations and national ones? If so, how so? Note what you feel is the best course of action. Finally, reference and discuss any professional code of ethics relevant to your topic such as the AMA code for doctors, the ANA code for nurses, or any other pertinent professional code. State whether and how your chosen topic involves any conflicts between professional and familial duties.

Discussion Board 2025

there is post 1 and post 2 give reply to post 1 and 2 with reference and in text citation in each of them post 1 When assessing an older adult who has a history of falls but no cardiovascular issues, it is important to remember that there are many possibilities as to why this may be occurring. Firstly, falls occur more often with old age regardless of other predisposing factors. As a person ages, they are more susceptible and falls are one of the top causes of hospitalization amongst the elderly community (Phelan et al., 2015). Aging leads to decreased muscle strength, unsteady gait and decreased proprioception which all contribute the the increase in fall risks (Appeadu, 2021). Another reason that a person may fall is related to medications that increase the risk of orthostatic hypotension, which is the sudden drop in blood pressure with sudden movements to sit up or stand. Taking these two factors into consideration, while assessing a patient there are some questions that I would personally ask. A medication history would be of importance so asking your patient what medications they are currently taking may help. Some medications contribute to unsteady gait, sedation and postural hypotension which can lead to falls (Phelan et al., 2015). Additionally, asking the patient if they have had a decrease in vision recently or are/have been wearing their glasses if they have them. Also, because the patient has not seen a primary care physician in a year, we are unaware of recent history, so asking the patient of any changes they have noticed within the last year related to their gait and level of consciousness may be beneficial. Lastly, ensuring that the patient has a clear and visible walkway in their home is important. Many falls are simply related to environmental factors such as clutter or unevenness in their home (Phelan et al., 2015). Environmental factors such as tripping and falling over an uneven carpet or some clothes on the floor is a possibility that can be easily adjusted if necessary. post 2 With advanced age, it comes with the wear-and-tear of physiological function, which can be challenging to distinguish age-related versus pathological-related changes. In the older adult population, one of the largest barriers is the lack of access to primary health care providers, and that’s how this group of clients usually suffer delayed diagnoses and worsen symptoms. Without proper education and guidance, the elderly often neglect the symptoms of cardiovascular disease as normal aging signs. The assessment questions and necessary considerations that nurses should be aware of are to assess the risk factors, lifestyle, and hereditary aspects of cardiovascular disease. “Do you have any medical history?” “Does anyone in your family have a history of cardiovascular disease?” “Do you ever experience palpitation?” “Have you ever experienced chest pain or tightness?” “Do you ever have shortness of breath?” “Do you have any pain in the upper back or shoulders?” “Do your feet or ankles ever get swollen?” “Do you get tired easily or find that you need more rest than usually needed?” “Do you smoke? If so, how often and how long have you been smoking?” “Do you drink? If how often?” “How often do you exercise weekly?” “How often do you fall by accident?” It is important to thoroughly assess the client’s risk factors in developing cardiovascular disease to prevent any further morbidity and mortality. According to Miller, there are two types of risk factors: modified and unmodified factors. With unmodified risk factors such as age, gender, race, heredity, and socioeconomic status, there are no interventions to avoid the development of disease. On the other hand, modified factors such as stress, weight, metabolic syndrome, smoking, drinking, inadequate diet, physical inactivity, etc can be prevented by better knowledge of the disease, smoking cessation or avoiding passive smoking, healthy dietary pattern, weight control, blood pressure control, coping mechanism with stress, and keep physically active. It is also necessary to provide them with available government resources in order to manage their health and improve life quality.

J.S’s wife drove him to the emergency room when his wheezing was unresponsive to his fluticasone/salmeterol (Advair) inhaler. Borderline Personality Disorder 2025

CASE STUDY S.is a 48-year-old divorced woman with one adult daughter and three grandchildren. She is currently working as an LPN part time in a nursing home and also works at a convenience store one or two days per week. She has had many jobs over the last 22 years, usually changing every one or two years. S notes that she has been called less often to work in the convenience store and worries that they don’t like her anymore. She reports being written up several times for arguing with customers. She also reports that her supervisor at the nursing home “is a bitch”; although she really liked her supervisor at first, she says “Now I hate her; she’s trying to get me fired.” S. reports that she has tried to get fulltime jobs five times in the last four years, was hired for three, but only lasted one or two weeks at each one. S. reports that she is currently not talking to her daughter because “she is horribly mean to me and she needs to apologize or I won’t talk to her again”. She is upset that she hasn’t seen her three small grandchildren in about a year. She sends them presents and cards frequently that say “I still love you! Grandma”, but hasn’t called them since she stopped talking to her daughter. She is considering reporting to the county that her daughter is keeping her grandchildren from her. S. is very unhappy that she isn’t in a relationship. She was abused by her ex-husband, and has a pattern of meeting and dating men who eventually abuse her. She states that her last relationship was very good, however; the man was not abusive and “I loved him very much”. The relationship ended for reasons that S. doesn’t understand, although she does report many arguments that ended in “scenes” such as her throwing chairs, stomping out of the house, making crank phone calls to his family, and calling the police with false reports. But S. also reports that she “couldn’t have loved him more and I showed it”. She gives examples of going to her boyfriend’s place of work with flowers, buying him expensive presents, surprising him with tickets to Mexico at the last minute – she was very upset that he wasn’t willing to drop everything and go with her. S. reports asking him why he didn’t love her and what she was doing wrong on a regular basis. When the boyfriend asked to break up, S. reports sitting outside his house for weeks, crying; she called his mother, called his boss, and called and texted him until he filed a restraining order. This occurred about 4 months ago. S. admitted herself to the mental health unit when she felt suicidal. She reports that she had stopped her individual psychotherapy 3 months ago and stopped going to DBT. She also stopped her anti-depressant at that time, as she felt it wasn’t working, and missed her last two psychiatrist appointments. How would you use therapeutic communication and principles of cognitive behavioral therapy with the client? Describe your assessment process. What are some likely co-morbid conditions? List one nursing diagnosis and an appropriate nursing intervention. What interdisciplinary referrals might be appropriate?
