Deadline: Due by Sunday at 23:59 p.m . CASE STUDY: Preschool Child: Ricky Ricky, age 4 years, arrives in the clinic with his mother. Ricky lives with his mother and father, who both work full-time, and his infant sister. Their extended family lives in a different state more than 100 miles away. Both parents are of average height and in good health. Ricky’s mother mentions that Ricky often expresses frustration, particularly in regard to food. Conflict over food occurs every day. Mealtime is a battle to get him to eat, unless his mother feeds him. Ricky’s baby sister seems to tolerate all baby foods but requires her mother to spoon-feed. Ricky’s mother is quite frustrated and concerned that he will become malnourished. Reflective Questions 1. What additional assessment information would you collect? 2. What questions would you ask, and how would you further explore this issue with the mother? 3. In what ways does the distance of the extended family influence this family’s approach to health promotion? 4. What factors would you consider to determine whether malnourishment is a factor in this family?

Case Study for Grand Nursing Theories Based on Interactive and Unitary Processes 2025

Susan Frank is a nurse in a home care agency, and she is making her initial visit to a new patient. The patient’s name, Jay Gold, looks familiar, and when she enters his home, she finds she knew him in her former job. Susan had first met Mr. Gold more than a decade ago when she was working on a medical unit at the local community hospital. At that time, Mr. Gold had been admitted to the hospital for diabetes with ketoacidosis. It was at this time that he discovered he had insulin-dependent diabetes. During his initial hospitalization, he was started on insulin and had to learn to care for his diabetes. In the weeks that followed his hospitalization, Mr. Gold returned to the medical unit to see the nurses who cared for him each time he had a visit with his dietitian and diabetes educator. As his diabetes came under control, Mr. Gold returned to his outgoing, energetic baseline. He talked to the nurses about his sales job, his wife, and his two daughters and told them how much he had learned in caring for his disorder.Susan was shocked to see Mr. Gold’s appearance now. He was lying in his bed with his back to her and did not look up when she entered the room. As she spoke to him, she noted that his color was ashen. His voice was soft as he spoke, and he appeared depressed and lethargic. He had had a right above-the-knee amputation (AKA), and Susan noted a large scar on his chest. She reviewed his record and found that Mr. Gold’s diabetes had progressed rapidly and that he had multiple complications. He had had a coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) 2 years ago and was also being monitored for decreased renal function. He had vascular problems and neuropathy, which led to the AKA. The reason for the home visit was that Mr. Gold was found to have osteomyelitis, requiring 6 weeks of intravenous antibiotics. Mr. Gold is married. He and his wife live in a pleasant, 2-story condo in an upscale community in a quiet retirement area. His two grown daughters are married but visit often. Susan learns that Mr. Gold has not been able to work for a number of years and is relying on Social Security disability and his wife’s part-time job. 1.  Select one of the nursing models/theories interactive processes and unitary process, choose one of these that will help Ms. Frank in assessing Mr. Gold and planning for his care. Why did your group select that model? Theories: -Imogene King: King’s Conceptual System and Theory of Goal Attainment and Transactional Process -Martha Rogers: The Science of Unitary and Irreducible Human Beings 2.  Based on the model selected, what additional information would Susan want to collect/assess? 3.  Based on the model selected, how would Ms. Frank initiate a plan of care for Mr. Gold? 4.  Do you think that Susan would assess and plan differently for Mr. Gold’s care if she used the theory you did not select for Mr. Gold? Why or why not?

Principles of Ethics 445N 2025

Week 2 Discussion: Religion and Ethics Required Resources Read/review the following resources for this activity: Textbook: Chapters 3, 4 Lesson Minimum of 1 scholarly source (in addition to the textbook) Ebook Uploaded below: Rachels, S., & Rachels, J. (2019). The elements of moral philosophy (9th ed.) Initial Post Instructions St. Augustine in the 5th Century held that we are free to make choices in life. This is the idea of free will. It may seem at first glance odd for a religious thinker to say that we have free will. After all, if God exists, then God created all things. God knows already what we will do. God can cause anything to occur. If we cause things to occur, that seems to be a limitation on the power of God and not make God all-powerful. There are also religion traditions that say that we have no free will. There are some theologians in Islam who seem to suggest that is true. In order for this line of reasoning to hold true, one would need to believe free will is an illusion and that we have no control over how we live our lives, but rather that we are puppets moving and acting due to God’s will and the powers of destiny and fate. And if this then in the case, how can we possibly be responsible for our actions? The considerations above show us to what degree our religious beliefs can shape us. For instance, someone who believes in free will may experience way more guilt than someone who believes we don’t have free will and thus aren’t responsible for the choices (and consequences) of the actions we take. Personal struggles with religion and ethics occur in many places, including in the healthcare arena. Consider the following: You are a nurse in a hospital. A 12 year-old was brought to the hospital by an ambulance. The parents have just arrived at the hospital. This 12 year-old has lost a large amount of blood and requires a transfusion. The parents happen to be members of a religion that believes that blood transfusions are immoral. They want to remove the child from the hospital and prevent the transfusion even if it means the death of the child. You have to decide whether or not you will participate in an action that violates the will of the parents and aid in providing blood for the child. If you choose to participate, and even if you are able to legally justify it, you have to think about the distress you are creating for the parents. If you refuse to aid here, you may be subject to retaliation from the hospital. What is the moral thing for the nurse to do here? Initial Post Instructions For the initial post, address the following questions: What would a divine command ethicist say is the moral thing to do here? Why would they say that? Do you agree with the divine command ethics? Why or why not? Evaluate what a natural law ethicist would say is right to do. Do you agree with them? Why or why not? Given what you said are the right things to do, what would an emotivist say about your positions and judgments? What role does subjectivity play here in determining what is ethical? The Role of the DNP Scholar in Preparing for Change 2025

As our population continues to rise along with life expectancy, large cadres of nursing practice and research scholars are needed to address the pressing healthcare issues in our society. Utilization of nursing inquiry and the ability to translate evidence into practice for the betterment of patient care and overall outcomes is key. Additionally, they are well prepared to address system challenges and concerns and implement changes for improvement here as well. The work of the cadre will enhance the translation of evidence into practice, with the utilization of learned quality improvement methodologies aimed to both improve and transform the delivery of healthcare (Trautman et al., 2018). In an effort to lead clinical innovation the cadre needs to become strong leaders and influencers. They are positioned to negotiate and work highly groups to effect change with the implementation of any or all aspects of nursing inquiry (Fuller & Hansen, 2019). Forming professional relationships through networking is also beneficial. These relationships afford the person leading change a consortium of resources to support and assist with change. Simply implementing a change in any type of environment is rarely successful and/or sustainable. Providing the audience with the evidence and outcomes when implementing a desired change in practice is important. We as healthcare workers should be providing care with a patient centered approach and possess a common desire to attain high quality and safety outcomes. As leaders of change, we must possess strong self-awareness along with the characteristic of approachability and adaptability. As we implement changes, we along with our teams, can identify limitations and make adjustments according for optimal results. I need a comment for this post at least 2 paragraphs and use 2 sources no later than 5 years.

Discussion: The role of RN/APRN in policy Evaluation 2025

In the Module 4 Discussion, you considered how professional nurses can become involved in policy-making. A critical component of any policy design is evaluation of the results. How comfortable are you with the thought of becoming involved with such matters? Some nurses may be hesitant to get involved with policy evaluation. The preference may be to focus on the care and well-being of their patients; some nurses may feel ill-equipped to enter the realm of policy and political activities. However, as you have examined previously, who better to advocate for patients and effective programs and polices than nurses? Already patient advocates in interactions with doctors and leadership, why not with government and regulatory agencies? In this Discussion, you will reflect on the role of professional nurses in policy evaluation. To Prepare: In the Module 4 Discussion, you considered how professional nurses can become involved in policy-making. Review the Resources and reflect on the role of professional nurses in policy evaluation. Post an explanation of at least two opportunities that currently exist for RNs and APRNs to actively participate in policy review . Explain some of the challenges that these opportunities may present and describe how you might overcome these challenges. Finally, recommend two strategies you might make to better advocate for or communicate the existence of these opportunities. Be specific and provide examples. 4 to 4 References

Post- Allison Dq1 2025

Respond to at least two of your colleagues who selected a different factor than you, in one of the following ways: Make a suggestion based on additional evidence drawn from readings or after synthesizing multiple postings. Share insights based on your own experience and additional research. Main Post A 16-year-old male presents for a sports participation examination. He has no significant medical history and no family history suggestive of risk for premature cardiac death. The patient is examined while sitting slightly recumbent on the exam table and the advanced practice nurse appreciates a grade II/VI systolic murmur heard loudest at the apex of the heart. Other physical findings are within normal limits, the patient denies any cardiovascular symptoms, and a neuromuscular examination is within normal limits. He is cleared with no activity restriction. Later in the season he collapses on the field and dies. Heart Murmurs Heart murmurs can be common in healthy infants, children, and adolescents. These murmurs are often innocent and result from normal patterns of blood flow through the heart. “Although most are not pathologic, a murmur may be the sole manifestation of serious heart disease” (Frank, J., Jacobe, K. 2011). If a murmur is detected, a thorough evaluation is needed. Scenario In this scenario, I would most likely have referred this patient out to a pediatric cardiologist. I would be hesitant because he has no family history and exam is negative. Only reason I would like to send him to a pediatric cardiologist is because he is young, even though he has no signs of symptoms, I could be missing something. The cardiologist would be able to do a more in-depth examination. The cardiologist could order an echo, ECG, and chest X-Ray. This 16-year-old male has a high-grade murmur, which can be heard at the apex of the heart, which could suggest MVR or MVP or aortic stenosis. “Certain characteristics of the murmur may be considered red flags, prompting stronger consideration for structural heart disease. These include a holosystolic murmur, grade 3 or higher should warrant a referral” (Frank, J., Jacobe, K. 2011). Genetic Factor Genetics can play a role in cardiac murmurs. Mostly, murmurs are discovered when a child is just a few days old or younger than 6 months. Usually, there will be signs and symptoms present with genetic murmurs in newborns and young children. Sometimes, in the older child, there will be a murmur present that does not cause symptoms or problems, but other times these asymptomatic murmurs can be deadly. Family history is an important factor and can be helpful when diagnosis an older child with a murmur. If during the scenario the mother had stated a family history of cardiac issues, I would not hesitate to send this patient to a cardiologist. References Frank, J., Jacobe, K. (2011).
