A recent global health issue to affect many different world populations is Ebola. It has made news in the last few years due to multiple outbreaks. The Ebolavirus is part of the Filoviridae family and has six different species within its own categories. The most common for current outbreaks and infections is the Zaire strain (CDC n.d.). The incubation period spans from 2 days to 21 days in the susceptible host. It is transmitted via direct contact with infected bodily fluids and items contaminated with those secretions. Fatality rate for those infected is up to 50 percent, but early diagnosis and supportive treatment increases the odds of survival (CDC n.d.).

It is believed that the original host of the Ebolavirus is the fruit bat but can also be traced to other wild animals such as fruit flies, porcupines, and primates. The early signs/symptoms include fever, fatigue, muscle aches and pains, headache and sore throat. These symptoms often make it difficulty to distinguish the exact viral infection because many viruses mirror the same symptoms. These initial symptoms are followed by more intense vomiting, diarrhea, impaired kidney and liver functions, internal and external bleeding, decreased WBC and platelets, and increased liver enzymes. Hosts of the virus can only spread the infection when they have the active symptoms, therefore cannot spread infection during the incubation period. Exact diagnosis is done through several blood tests including the ELISA test, antigen-capture detection test, serum neutralization test, electron microscopy, and virus isolation by cell culture (CDC n.d.)

International monitoring of the Ebolavirus is done by the World Health Organization (WHO), under the United Nations. The WHO is considered to be the guardians of public health and security internationally and they are actively involved in setting up preventative and reactive programs/education. These programs are designed to decrease the possibility of an outbreak in any given population (GCU 2018). The response by WHO to the Ebolavirus outbreaks include supporting local and state health departments in disease detection, tracing the source of the outbreak, laboratory services, controlling the infection spread and instituting safe burial practices to prevent the spread of the virus (CDC n.d.). Preventative services by WHO include education on all levels to prevent outbreaks and attempts to break the chain of infection (CDC n.d.)

Communication is integral in the field of nursing. Nurses act as the hub of communication, relaying and interpreting information between physicians, caregivers, family members and patients. The ability to establish effective communication in nursing is imperative to providing the best care and patient outcomes possible (Bender, Williams, Su, & Hites, 2016). At any workplace, good communication is vital. Effective communication removes obstacles that detract from efficiency and collaboration. As a nurse executive, I should create the structure and processes that facilitate effective communication within in my team. To improve communication to and between team members, my focus would be improving both the content and the coverage of team members’ communication.

To begin with, I would provide role clarity at the workplace. One of the most effective structural ways to improve the content of communication within a team is to invest in role clarity (Marquis & Huston, 2017). It helps everyone on the team know from the beginning which content is most relevant to discuss with different team members. I would promote role clarity by explaining to each employee what metrics will be used to define success in their role. Another way of enhancing communication is by creating an open door policy. This would encourage free communication by removing any potential barriers.

Empowering team members would enable them have the authority or power to execute certain functions. Additionally, empowering people also makes them more confident, for instance, in decision-making (Marquis & Huston, 2017). One major way in which I would empower my team members is by including them in the decision-making process of our healthcare organization. Through this inclusion, their views are likely to be heard by a higher authority.

Global health issues are those that have significant impact on the health of the international communities which may be either a preventable or treatable infectious disease or chronic conditions (Maurer & Smith, 2013, p.118).Health disparities occur among countries from developed to underdeveloped countries wherein the former would usually have more resources and economic stability. The standard of health care being provided to citizens of higher-income countries are higher than those of the middle-income and lower-income countries (Maurer & Smith, 2013, p.114).

One of the major health problems is due to malnutrition. It is because of many reasons such as poverty, illiteracy, lack of awareness about nutritional facts, commercialization of food industry, improper agricultural Technics to grow food products, formation of bad eating habits, etc. To maintain a healthy community, it is important to coordinate many resources.

Poverty is one of the main problems for malnutrition in developing nations. But as a developed country improper commercialization in food industry is the major cause of unbalanced nourishment. As a human nature, taste is the main fact of developing eating habit. Modern industrialists manufacture food products focusing on the sales opportunity. This made them give less value of nutritional facts and supplemented with taste. The introduction of tasty food with less nutritional value attracted even those people in developed countries and started a tendency in the formation of bad eating habits. Lack of awareness and misleading advertisements promoted the sales and thus more and more people developed eating habits with unhealthy food.

Modern food industry introduced newer technologies to grow crops faster both in live stocks and agriculture. The uncontrolled use of steroids and pesticides developed a major role in malnutrition. Those food products manufactured in such adverse conditions drained the nutritional facts and the percentage of hazardous products in food became dominant so that the body system is no longer be able to absorb the nutrition from such food products.

Another major fact in malnutrition is the economy. As people are not able to meet their daily needs due to inflation, many were looking for cheaper products for the use in their daily life. Such instances developed low quality food consuming habit disregarding the adverse aspects such as health problems.

The awareness of food nutritional facts and availability of economically affordable quality food in low income communities are one of the best remedies for the problem.
