Nursing is viewed by the public as a well-respected field of work. I have heard many people say “It takes a special person to be a nurse” or “you have such a big heart to do that, I could never do that”. Their perception of what “nursing” is or does is based on their experiences. I feel like they may not see nursing as what it is.

The different factors that could affect the public’s perception of nursing would include: past experiences, family members that are nurses, stories that have heard or read about, and tv shows that they have seen.

There are different ways to approach how you would educate the public on the professional nurse’s role and scope of practice within a changing health care system. I think it would be neat to have articles posted about the Professional nurse’s role during Nurses week each year. These articles could be up to date with the nurse’s cutting edge evidence-based practice and any new changes that occurred over the last year. Another way to educate the general public would be to be thorough in your nursing practice, by educating your patient and family member. Explaining what you are doing and why you are doing it, helps the patient and family member better understand the nurse’s role and responsibilities.

 Reflecting on week 9’s lessons in the syllabus, select a patient population (young adult, adult or geriatric), and briefly analyze a common STDs & urological disorder (ex – UTI, Hematuria, Urolithiasis, Urinary Incontinence, Ac. Pyelonephritis, HIV, Bacterial vaginosis, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Trichomoniasis, Syphilis) that may affect this population. Briefly tell how it impacts the patient’s quality of life and analyze the current research evidence on this topic and gold standard of care if any for your chosen population. (You may use an example from your clinical rotation (past or present) that you have encountered). National Patient Safety Goals

One of the tenets of health informatics is the transition of data to wisdom, as depicted in Figure 2.6 in your textbook. In an APA formatted paper address the following:

· Access the Joint Commission website (www.jointcommission.org) national patient safety goals for Ambulatory Health Care, Behavioral Health Care, or Hospitals, and review the national patient safety goal on reconciling medication information. The types of information that clinicians use to reconcile medications includes (among others) medication name, dose, frequency, route, and purpose).

· Examine how organizations assess data, information, knowledge and wisdom to support this patient safety goal. 

· Outline the steps for addressing the medication reconciliation safety goal, by identifying and explaining the steps of the practice-based evidence approach.

· Include a minimum of two scholarly resources, other than the textbook, to support your response.
