One of the most important ways to grow intellectually (and otherwise) is to actually listen to others and seek to understand them as they intend to be understood. Yet it is all too common for people to understand others in ways that do not reflect the best and most fair interpretation of their intended meaning.Prepare: Review “Principle of Accuracy and the Principle of Charity” from Chapter 9, along with the required resources from this week.Reflect: Find specific examples in the media or in life in which someone misunderstands someone else. This happens a lot with political and religious arguments, but it also happens in daily life, especially when we find ourselves in conflict with others. Have you interpreted others uncharitably?Write: Present a case, either in the media or in your own life, in which someone interpreted another uncharitably. What specifically did the first person say? In what way did the other person understand it? What did the person really mean? Do you think that the misunderstanding was intentional? What were the consequences of the misunderstanding? How might the situation have been better if the person had practiced the principle of charity? Finally, are there areas in which you could do more to understand others favorably? How might you be a wiser person if you did so?Guided Response:  Post a minimum of three responses, two of which must be to your classmates. The third response could be to a classmate or your instructor. Be sure to post on three separate days throughout the week to promote further engagement and discussion. Each response should be a minimum 75 of words.Share an example in your own life in which you have experienced a similarly uncharitable interpretation of someone (and what the consequences were). You might offer another possible charitable interpretation of what the first person said. You might offer suggestions for things that people can do to further better mutual understanding. Let your response further the goal of the appreciation of the shared goal of furthering charitable interpretation.

Reflect on what you have learned in this course about how to construct high-quality arguments for positions. Give an example of how the ability to think logically and to construct good arguments could help you in your career and your daily life. In what ways will the skill of being able to evaluate the quality of reasoning on all sides better enable you to discover what is true and to make better choices? (Feel free to reference the specific area of life that you raised in your post your introduction in Week 1.)Finally, consider the argument you have been developing for your writing assignments. How have fairly considering multiple points of view helped you clarify your own perspective? What advice would you give to people to help them understand issues more clearly and objectively while being fair to all sides? Feel free to comment on any other values you have gained from this course so far.Your journal entry must be at least 250 words. You do not need to follow APA Style for this journal entry, but you should proofread your work to eliminate errors of grammar and spelling.

Instructions:-Each response to another must be at least 175 words in length. While opinions and reactions are personal and subjective in nature, they need references and citations for support. This approach reflects knowledge acquisition as well as application and synthesis of content. In other words, always support your work with resources. This is also applies to article reviews and/or reflection exercises…you still must have at least two references….one of which will always be your textbook.(Cohen, R. J., & Swerdlik, M. E. (2018). Psychological testing and assessment: An introductionto tests and measurement (9th ed). New York, NY: McGraw-Hill.)(Peer Post)The Scales We Use and the Comparisons We MakeDiscuss the impact of each scale of measurement on the ability or inability to be utilized on a test being standardized as a norm-referenced or criterion-referenced assessment. For the purpose of this discussion, you may cluster the ordinal and interval scale together. Subsequently, your post will include the following four elements:Ordinal or interval scale of measurement and norm-referenced test.Ordinal or interval scale of measurement and criterion-referenced test.Ratio scale of measurement and norm-referenced test.Ratio scale of measurement and criterion-referenced test.Provide at least one example that is not in your Psychological Testing and Assessment text for each combination above and describe how the referencing data would be collected.Ordinal or interval scale of measurement and a norm-referenced assessment combined can have a worthwhile and substantial effect.  An ordinal scale is a method of measurement where each person being measured is done so according to a ranking system.  Where a person falls in the order of rank does not imply that one rank is far greater than or less than another rank. There is no zero point which refers to the notion that everyone has some capability and therefore there is no zero rating (Cohen & Swerdlik, 2018).  This can influence norm-referenced assessments, an example could be in the NFL draft.  An owner of an NFL team may be looking for a field goal kicker, so they look at the top three rated field goal kickers.  The number one ranked kicker coming out of college, the second-ranked kicker, and the third-ranked kicker.  If you are the coach or owner of an NFL team you may come to the conclusion that the third-ranked kicker will need more practice and coaching because he is ranked lower than the two players above him in the ranking.  We know the first ranked kicker had more successful field goal attempts, but we do not know by how many successful field goals separate each player.Ordinal or interval scale of measurement and criterion-referenced assessment has an influence because when you implement criterion the person must sustain or surpass a certain level of criterion (Cohen & Swerdlik, 2018).  For me to become a registered behavior technician I must attain a score that meets or rises above the set criterion or score that the BACB mandates to pass their exam and become certified.  The BACB could keep track and put out a list of who became certified but according to rank.  Highest score as number one and so on.  That could affect a top-notch company deciding who they want to hire according to the number a person was ranked.  The company would be looking at an individual’s proficiencies that need to meet a certain level which is then measured to be pertinent to the subject matter that is being assessed throughout the test.A ratio scale of measurement and a norm-referenced assessment could use the total amount of time I took answering each question on the registered behavior technician test.  They could then take the amount of time I took to answer each question and compare it to the amount of time other individuals who took the same exam took in answering their questions.  For instance, a company may look at the fact that I got 90 out of 100 questions correct and took less time than another person who got 88 out of the 100 questions correct but took more time.  One aspect to contemplate if you are the head of the company is to look at any extraneous or confounding variables that may have contributed to the reason one person scored the 88, such as extreme stressors they were experiencing the day of the test (Cohen & Swerdlik, 2018).The ratio scale of measurement and a criterion-referenced assessment is one in which an individual’s skill level is measured and evaluated to put them in an exact category.  There may be more than one category being measured as well.  (Cohen & Swerdlik, 2018).  For instance, to be accepted for an exclusive diamond titanium credit card an individual will need to meet or exceed high criteria in several categories.  When applying to such a credit card the individual must prove their worthiness by having an excellent credit score, a certain credit to debt ratio, be in a certain income bracket, and so on.  A ratio scale contains the true zero point in which there is equal intervals between all the numbers so that mathematical equations can be determined to see if you fit in the proper category to earn yourself that exclusive credit card.As you can see there is a tiered difference between the types of measurement I have discussed.  Nominal measures provide data on whether two things are alike or unalike.  Ordinal measures add data regarding more or less of a quantity.  Interval measures add data concerning the distance between items, people, and/or objects.  While the ratio scale measures add the absolute zero standard (Stevens, 1946).Provide a statement that evaluates which scale of measurement appears to be the most useful for examining attributes in psychology. Explain.Although there is much controversy on which scale of measurement seems to be the most suitable for assessing characteristics and traits in psychology, I believe the interval scales would be the most useful.  When using interval scales, you would find the mean within an array of measures to determine your evaluation conclusions.  In psychology even the use of meticulous standardized measures such as the Likerts will classify the data as interval if the scale being utilized has seven or more points.  Using interval scales seems to be the happy medium in which you can average the results to better assess a larger group of people, conditions, behaviors, and/or all other classifications needing to be assessed (Cohen & Swerdlik, 2018).Evaluate which method of referencing (norm or criterion) appears to be the most useful for examining attributes in psychology. Explain your decision based on the area of focus regarding the test results. For example, identify if it is preferable to focus on how one individual performs relative to others who took the same test, or if it is preferable to only focus on what the individual can or cannot do.When assessing which method of referencing between criterion or norm seems to be the most valuable when analyzing attributes in psychology, I would tend towards criterion.  I think it is more effective to delve into what one individual is capable of or not capable of accomplishing.  That way you are better suited to help that individual by focusing on decreasing undesirable behaviors that they exhibit and increasing their skill acquisition based on their unique strengths and weaknesses.  Each of us is different and understanding what each individual could benefit from would help to focus on how to better serve that individual from a psychological perspective.

DISCUSSION RESPONSE REPLY BACK TO  2 STUDENTS SEPARATELY BEVERLY & MAEAs you reply to your classmates, probe their answers. Did they justify why their list of concepts was so important—or non-obvious? Was their answer to the client persuasive? In all your discussion board work for this module/week, make sure to integrate appropriate concepts from the class sources, previous courses you may have taken, passages of Scripture that directly relate to the concept, or ethical considerations from the ACA Code of Ethics (2014) and cite correctly, per current APA format.BeverlySuffering and Counseling GuidelinesThe presentation, Spirituality, Suffering, and Counseling Dynamics (n.d.), provided numerous insights on the concept of suffering and on counseling suffering clients; the concepts of nature of suffering, solidarity, hospitality in counseling, clarifying roles, attentive listening, grace and truth, and hope were informative and encouraging to me as a counseling student. The nature of suffering discussion does not limit suffering to punishment, disobedience, and conflict of conscience, but it also recognizes the Fall of creation, the loss of foundations, shame, and hopelessness (Brewer & Peters, n.d.). This more thorough acknowledgment of suffering will be beneficial to me the Christian counselor. I also believe the idea of solidarity between “wounded healer” and client is valuable to the therapeutic relationship and thus, the client’s progress. When the counselor uses appropriate disclosure it can help make a “heart connection” with the client (Brewer & Peters, n.d.). I am especially impressed by the concept of hospitality in counseling. Before, I had not really thought of hospitality within the counseling context, but it makes sense as counselors seek to warmly welcome strangers into a relationship in which they are loved, respected, and held with unconditional positive regard (Brewer & Peters, n.d). When many want to turn away people in suffering, counselors welcome them in and listen to them share their pain (Brewer & Peters, n.d). By delivering both grace and truth, hospitality in counseling can help the client who has become a stranger to all, even to themselves, to become a friend (Brewer & Peters, n.d). This is a beautiful concept and one I most want to utilize in counseling future clients.  The type of hospitality in counseling can surely help a client find hope and progress toward their goals.Discouraged ClientIf a client expressed uncertainty in the effectiveness of their counseling experience and asked why I have not helped to remove the pain and suffering they feel, I would carefully listen with empathy and attention to their desires, thoughts, and feelings. Listening not only shows positive regard for the client and promotes a collaborative counseling experience, it could also reveal new insights into the clients suffering that may not have been noticed in previous goals (Brewers & Peters, n.d.; Hawkins & Clinton, 2015, p. 56). As a counselor, I will clearly have limitations in my abilities to help clients and will want to seek the wisdom of God to know my role in the counseling process (Hawkins & Clinton, 2015, pp. 55-56). I will want to assess the client’s assertion for any potential truth in me not fulfilling my role, recognizing the client may have misunderstood my role (Brewer & Peters, n.d.). Perhaps, I need to make changes to help the client reach their goals. Perhaps, the client may need to be reminded of each of our roles and my limitations. Perhaps still, the client may simply need to be encouraged by reminding them of their growth toward reaching their goals.ReferencesBrewer, G. & Peters, C. (n.d.). COUC 506 Week Three, Spirituality, suffering, and counseling dynamics. [Film]. Lynchburg, VA: Liberty University.Hawkins, R. and Clinton, T., (2015).  The new Christian counselor.  Harvest House Publishers.MAEIn thinking on counseling suffering individuals, I found several concepts and principles to be insightful and helpful.  Most insightful is the Nouwen statement that as a counselor, we are a “wounded healer” (Brewer & Peters, Slide 2/7).  By embracing this concept, it allows for each counselor to engage their client with a base level of compassion, empathy and hospitality.  These are the starting factors which are needed to set a solid foundation for any therapeutic relationship.A Christian counselor’s goals during a therapeutic intervention should always align with that of the client.  McMinn (2011) suggest that for the counselor, interdisciplinary integration is sometimes hard to achieve because the success of the intervention depends on a counselor’s ability to genuinely connect with the client on a real level.  McMinn (2011), states the “most important’” part of the entire intervention is the “counseling relationship” itself (p. 13).  Specifically, although it is important for the Christian Counselor to be fully competent in psychological and theological training and techniques, most clients are looking to make a personal or relational connection with their counselor (McMinn, 2011, p. 13).  Knowing this, “bringing the Christian faith into the counseling office–requires us to evaluate carefully the goals of therapy” and level of spirituality for the client (McMinn, 2011, p. 17).If after six weeks of counseling, a client approached me with concerns about the level of counseling effectiveness and their continual suffering, I would first provide them unconditional positive regard and the hospitality needed to freely express those concerns.  I would then engage in a process of therapeutic reassessment.  First, working with the client to ensure that I and the client were clear on the true source of their suffering.  Specifically, from reading the course material, determining the “nature of suffering” is key for the counselors to assist clients in their healing process (Brewer & Peters, Slide 4/7).  In addition, the client and I would review or adjust the therapeutic goals set at the beginning of the therapeutic intervention.  Finally, I would do an assessment of my own counseling effectiveness.  According to Remley & Herlihy (2016) counselors are ethically bound to exercise “diligence” which requires “putting client welfare first and foremost, above all other concerns” (p. 155).  This means counselors must be “willing to do extra reading, research, training, consultation, and follow-up to ensure that clients are served effectively” (p. 155).  Referral is an option (if needed).ReferencesBrewer, G. & Peters, C.
