Concept Synthesis Paper on Personal Nursing Philosophy

Your Concept Synthesis Paper is due this week. By the due date assigned, submit your scholarly paper, in which you have identified, described, researched and applied the concepts that underlie your personal philosophy for professional nursing practice.

Your paper should include:

• Nursing Autobiography: A brief (1 page) discussion of your background in nursing.
• The Four Metaparadigms: Identification, discussion, and documentation from the literature of your perspective on the four metaparadigms of patient, nurse, health, and environment.
• Two Practice-Specific Concepts: Identification, discussion, and documentation from the literature of your perspective on at least two concepts specific to your own practice.
• List of Propositions: A numbered list of at least five propositions or assumption statements that clearly connect the concepts described.

Your paper should integrate these discrete elements and reflect your personal nursing philosophy.

The paper should be thoroughly researched and well documented, with relevant material from the nursing theorists presented incorporated into the paper. The current APA Manual is to be used throughout the paper. Sources should focus on references from nursing theory but may also include conceptual and theoretical material from other professional domains. The paper, excluding references or appendices, is to be limited to 4-6 pages. Writing should be succinct and well organized, as it is impossible for the facilitator to evaluate form and content separately.

Your philosophy/framework is to be given a title that is appropriate to its content and emphasis.

Disaster Preparedness Essay

Objective: Examine disaster preparedness concepts in healthcare organizations.

Introduction

In the healthcare field, personnel are often responsible for the safety and survival of others, especially in crisis or disaster settings. To ensure appropriate care and response, proper training of healthcare service providers to respond efficiently and effectively to the needs of the injured during a disaster is critical. Healthcare organizations must also prepare management to handle a crisis situation by ensuring that a complete crisis management plan is ready for any emergency situation. You will write an essay that describes the nature of crises management in healthcare.

Deliverable

The essay for this lesson is required to be a minimum of 750 words that clearly demonstrate your understanding of the activity. Essays should have a clear introduction, thesis statement and conclusion, written in APA format (APAstyle.org). A minimum of three sources must be cited in-text and in the Reference list.

Activity Details

Step 1: Read the following questions and use what you have learned about this lesson’s objective to summarize your responses. It is highly recommended that you use these questions/prompts as level 1 subheadings in your essay.

• -What are the different types of disasters that may occur and require the response of a healthcare organization?
• -What government organizations help healthcare organizations prepare for disasters? What assistance does each provide?
• -What are the common elements of healthcare disaster preparedness? Include a description of an emergency response plan, communication plan, incident command center, personnel resources, community and governmental roles and resources.

Step 2: Write a paper that incorporates your answers to the questions in Step 1. 

A 52-year-old African American male presents to an urgent care center complaining of urinary frequency and nocturia. The symptoms have been present for several months and have increased in frequency over the past week. He has been unable to sleep because of the need to urinate at least hourly all day and night. He does not have a primary care provider and has not seen a doctor in more than 10 years. His father died when he was a child in an automobile accident, and his mother is 79 years old and has hypertension. The patient has no siblings. His social history includes the following: banker by profession, divorced father of two grown children, non-smoker, and occasionally consumes alcohol on weekends only.

To prepare:

• Review Part 13 of the Buttaro et al. text in this week’s Learning Resources.
• Review the case study and reflect on the information provided about the patient.
• Think about the personal, medical, and family history you need to obtain from the patient in the case study. Reflect on what questions you might ask during an evaluation.
• Consider types of physical exams and diagnostics that might be appropriate for evaluation of the patient in the study.
• Reflect on a possible diagnosis for the patient.
• Review the Marroquin article in this week’s Learning Resources. If you suspect prostate cancer, consider whether or not you would recommend a biopsy.
• Think about potential treatment options for the patient.

The development marker assessment that I would use is the CDC’s Developmental Milestones chart found on the CDC website, as they are based on age in months and are found in print quite readily in clinics, in addition to a downloadable phone application (CDC, 2019). Considering that every child makes his or her milestones at slightly different times and this child is quite low on growth charts, this would be a rough gage for how this baby should present and I would begin testing the 6 month categories; can she makes vowel sounds, roll over, sit without contact guard, stand with assistance, etc (CDC, 2019). I would also test many of the 9 month milestones: does she make a lot of different sounds, point at things, mimic, use thumb and point finger to pincer food, get to a seated position alone, pull herself to standing position, and can she crawl (CDC, 2019)

Geriatrics

Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, conduct an in-depth review of peer-reviewed journals on geriatric.

Identify a method of research you would like to focus on and select  at least three articles focused on geriatric research, which use your  selected method of research.
