Course Reflection Nursing and the Aging Family.

Guidelines

PURPOSE

The purpose of this assignment is to provide the student an opportunity to reflect competencies acquired through the course Nursing and The Aging Family.

COURSE OUTCOMES

This assignment provides documentation of student ability to meet the following course outcomes:

– The students will identify the physiological process of aging.

– The students will be able to differentiate the adaptive human response to the aging process.

– The student will be able to manage and care older adults and their families.

REQUIREMENTS

1. The Course Reflection will be graded on Original paper (NO plagiarism), quality of self-assessment, use of citations, use of Standard English grammar, sentence structure, and overall organization based on the required components as summarized in the directions and grading

2. The length of the reflection is to be within three to six pages excluding title page and reference pages.

3. APA format is required with both a title page and reference page. Use the required components

of the review as Level 1 headers (upper and lower case, centered):

PREPARING YOUR REFLECTION

The BSN Essentials (AACN, 2008) outline a number of healthcare policy and advocacy competencies for

the BSN-prepared nurse. Reflect on the course Nursing and The Aging Family readings, discussion threads, and applications you have completed across this course and write a reflective essay regarding the extent to which you feel you are now prepared to:

1. “Conduct comprehensive and focused physical, behavioral, psychological, spiritual, socioeconomic, and environmental assessments of health and illness parameters in patients, using developmentally and culturally appropriate approaches.

2. Recognize the relationship of genetics and genomics to health, prevention, screening, diagnostics, prognostics, selection of treatment, and monitoring of treatment effectiveness, using a constructed pedigree from collected family history information as well as standardized symbols and terminology. 

3. Implement holistic, patient centered care that reflects an understanding of human growth and development, pathophysiology, pharmacology, medical management, and nursing management across the health illness continuum, across the lifespan, and in all healthcare settings.

8. Implement evidence-based nursing interventions as appropriate for managing the acute and chronic care of patients and promoting health across the lifespan.

9. Monitor client outcomes to evaluate the effectiveness of psychobiological interventions.

10. Facilitate patient centered transitions of care, including discharge planning and ensuring the caregiver’s knowledge of care requirements to promote safe care.

11. Provide nursing care based on evidence that contributes to safe and high-quality patient outcomes within healthcare microsystems.

12. Create a safe care environment that results in high quality patient outcomes.

13. Revise the plan of care based on an ongoing evaluation of patient outcomes.

Transcultural Perspective in the Nursing Care of Adults.

Please read chapter 7 of the class textbook and review the attached PowerPoint presentation.  Once done answer the following questions;

1.  Mention and evaluated how culture influences adult development.
2.  Mention and explain how gender and specific religious beliefs and practices might influence and adult’s health and/or illness during situational crises or transitions.
3. Please present an analysis of the following case;

A Korean American family that expects their 18-year-old male to become a physician, including cultural trends and related challenges regarding expectations and standards of behavior and what health implications might emerge from the pressure of imposing such an expectation on an 18-year old?

Having developed a definition of diversity in the last module, this week we’re turning to how diversity applies to you PERSONALLY. This could be related to your personal experiences or things you’ve observed of those around you. Because Milestone One is also due this week, we’ll start to discuss the issues and events that interest you. Based on the module resources and your own research, write an initial post that addresses the following:

• Describe an event related to diversity that either you or someone around you has experienced. What did you take away, and how did it enhance your understanding of diversity?
• Share a current issue related to diversity that you have found interesting or that has personally impacted you. Post an article from a news source. How does diversity help you better understand this issue?

I’d like an event of diversity within the nursing field as a nurse related to having to understand ones decission making process based on religion.

Exhibition of World Art

Imagine you are a curator at your local city’s Museum of Art. You have been asked to organize a small exhibition of objects of art from the cultures of China, Japan, Africa, and the Americas; you will also showcase Islamic art. Your exhibition should include representative objects that highlight significant and essential ideas of each culture. You may plan to include actual objects in your exhibition, or photographs or models of larger structures or sculptures.

Survey your course textbook and reliable internet websites to locate two art objects from each of the following five cultures: China, Japan, Africa, the Americas, and Islam, that you would like to include in your exhibition. Your objects must date to the time period we are studying in this course (Prehistory -1300 CE). You will select a total of ten objects for display in your “Exhibition of World Art.”

Then, write a “museum label “for each object within a Microsoft Word document. The following should be on the “label” for each object:

1. A photograph of the object
2. Identifying information:
   1. Name of the artist (if known—otherwise, attribute the culture)
   2. Title of the work
   3. Date of the work
   4. Medium/materials used to create the work
   5. Current location
3. A paragraph of 4-5 sentences describing why the object is representative of its culture and is culturally significant. Briefly explain why you have selected the object for display.

Finally, in a paragraph of 8-10 sentences, write a summarizing overview of your “Exhibition of World Art,” highlighting key similarities and distinctions between the objects you have curated. Imagine that visitors to your exhibition will read this overview as they enter your “Exhibition of World Art,” and provide them with any information or context they may need to fully appreciate the objects on display.

Offer a citation of your sources for each image and the information provided as appropriate.
