Choose a resident microbe from the article The Nature of Bacterial Host-Parasite Relationships in Humans.

1. Describe the symbiotic role of your chosen microbe within our microbiome.
2. Do a little independent research to determine whether this microbe can become pathogenic. If so, describe the conditions under which this microbe assumes this opportunistic role. Be sure to cite articles used in your research and include a references section.

Analyze: Artifact of Popular Culture

Evaluation Title: The Business of Pop Culture

We have seen throughout this course how popular culture influences our attitudes, both positively and negatively. In this final paper, you will examine an artifact in pop culture to determine its message and effect.

For this assignment, select an artifact that, in your opinion, unfairly creates a negative bias or promotes a negative stereotype about one population of society. The pop-culture artifact can be a media source (song, movie, television program), a product, or other tangible associated with pop culture.  Provide a link to this artifact (or an image). Explain why you have selected this artifact and why you feel that this creates a negative bias. Describe how you would re-design or re-write the script of this artifact to change how others view this population.

In your paper:

• Provide a specific link to the pop culture artifact used for this paper or an image of the artifact. 
• Discuss the artifact in depth.  Explain the stereotypes or biases that you see being perpetuated in the artifact. 
• Discuss the role of popular culture in communicating harmful or incorrect stereotypes or biases.  Using the concepts, terminology, and ideas within Units 1-7, recommendations for how people can identify and correct views that are incorrect or harmful.
• Re-design or re-write this artifact to change the way others could view this population without the negative bias.  Be sure to support this revised artifact with factual examples of the culture.

It has been said that time is money. In planning change to positively influence outcomes, it is important that you be able to quickly and concisely articulate your ideas. An executive summary is a short document that summarizes a more in-depth report. Think of it in terms of a public service announcement or commercial in which you must grab the attention of the stakeholders in order for your project to become a priority.

An executive summary enables you to provide the executive-level leaders with a brief but effective overview of what you have determined is a need, a change, or an enhancement for the organization. A succinct, informative summary linked to the organization’s strategic plan will improve your chances of obtaining stakeholder support.

Questions to Consider

As you prepare to complete this assessment, you may want to think about other related issues to deepen your understanding or broaden your viewpoint. You are encouraged to consider the questions below and discuss them with a fellow learner, a work associate, an interested friend, or a member of your professional community. Note that these questions are for your own development and exploration and do not need to be completed or submitted as part of your assessment.

Building stakeholder support is crucial to fostering and sustaining change. Therefore, as you approach this assessment, think about the stakeholders whose support you will need for the change you want to bring about.

Your summary of relevant outcome measures is based on your findings from the quality and safety gap analysis you completed in the previous assessment.

Preparation

Your analysis of the gap between current and desired performance was the first step toward improving outcomes. You now have the information you need to move forward with proposed changes. Your next step is to focus on existing outcome measures and their relationship to the systemic problem you are addressing. For this assessment, you have been asked to draft a summary of existing outcome measures for your organization’s executive team to raise awareness of the problem and the strategic value of existing measures.
