Addressing and Confronting Bias and Prejudice | 2025 Custom Writing

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, please read Chapters 8, 12, and 13 in DSM 5 Made Easy: The Clinician’s Guide to Diagnosis; Chapter 2 in Turning Points in Dynamic Psychotherapy: Initial Assessment, Boundaries, Money, Disruptions and Suicidal Crises; Chapter 5 in The Psychiatric Interview: Evaluation and Diagnosis; all required articles; and review the PSY645 Fictional Sociocultural Case Studies (Links to an external site.) document. One of the most important aspects of developing competence in psychopathology is to be as honestly and completely aware as possible of your personal attitudes toward people who have mental health conditions. Through this awareness, we are better able to challenge our own biases and prejudicial views in order to be more open to the findings within scholarly research. For your initial post in this discussion, choose one of the three case studies from the PSY645 Fictional Sociocultural Case Studies (Links to an external site.) document, and write a detailed description of your uncensored personal observation of the patient depicted. Describe at least one theoretical orientation you would use to conceptualize your view of the patient’s problem and how it may have developed. Identify the issues you might focus on in treatment with this patient. Be sure to identify within your post which of the three case studies you have chosen.Barnhill, J. W. (Ed.). (2014). Review Chapter 8 in your course text, Research Methods for the Behavioral Sciences. Pay particular attention to the difference between Type I and Type II errors.Review the web article, “ Type I and Type II Errors—Making Mistakes in the Justice System.” Pay close attention to the descriptions and examples of Type I and Type II errors.Using the Walden Library, select and review a research article that addresses a forensic psychology issue or takes place in a forensic setting, and that reports or discusses a Type I or Type II error.Think about the possible consequences to the research study of making each type of error.Consider whether the resulting consequences of making each type of error would be tolerable or not and why. With these thoughts in mind:Post by Day 4 a brief summary of the study you selected. Then, explain how and why the study reports the possibility of either a Type I or Type II error. Finally, explain the potential consequence to the research study of making either a Type I or a Type II error and which is more “ tolerable” and why.Learning ResourcesReadingsCourse Text: Stangor, C. Include at least one reference to course material. When you begin, type the name of the person you are replying to.Make an analysis of the other person’s work/thinking.Support your comment with a reason, an example, or –preferably– by a reference from the material you’ve read in this course.Respond to 1 peerThe expectation is that response posts will add factual information to the discussion, whether in agreement or disagreement with the peer’s original post.75-100 wordsReply to:I can agree with Ellis’s assumption on REBT on the basis for emotional disturbance lays in irrational beliefs and thinking. I think I can only agree partially with Ellis on the notion that events themselves do not cause emotional and behavioral problems. I do agree that our cognitive evaluation of events can lead to emotional disturbance. Traumatic events though such as plane or car crashes, rape, being attacked or robbed are events that cannot be controlled and our cognitive evaluation can be compromised and possibly unable to fully comprehend these events in times of great stress or trauma. I can agree that our cognitions and behaviors create a “cause-and-effect” relationship (Corey, 2017, p. 271) Just this weekend in church the sermon was aimed at the story we attach to our wounds in life and how that affects our outlook on life. I do believe that we do present ourselves with the choice to respond to different events, but that is not the full reason as to why one can find themselves in emotional disturbance.CB is also an introspective therapy that is aimed at catching those distorted thoughts to restructure those thoughts, to “identify dysfunctional thinking, then weigh evidence for or against that thought.”(Corey, 2017, p. 285) I can accept the notion that cognitive therapists should assist clients to almost a full extent. I do not agree with the specified questions in collaborative empiricism (Corey, 2017, p. 285) which can leave room for therapists to bring the patients to biased conclusions about their thoughts. There should be assisting in the restructuring and examination of distorted beliefs to avoid further distorted beliefs but the clients need to bring themselves to those conclusions, not have them be given to them, but collarborated on instead.References:Corey, G. Test proposal | 2025 Custom Writing

Throughout the course, students will conduct research on instruments that are currently used to measure a particular construct, develop a new instrument to measure that construct, administer the instrument to participants, and report on data arising from those administrations. . Students are free to select any construct of their interest, such as some ability, a personality construct, or any kind of attitude or belief.Over the six-week course, students will select a construct of interest (such as depression, anxiety, job satisfaction, etc.), conduct research on other popular instruments used to measure the same or similar construct, develop a 12-15 item instrument, administer the instrument to 3-5 participants, discuss the methods used to administer the instrument, provide a strengths and weaknesses/limitation section regarding the development of the instrument, and discuss ways to increase the reliability and validity of the instrument. This assignment is the second step toward completing your Final Test Development Proposal in Week 6.  Using your construct of interest from Week 1 and building upon the instruments and information you found in Step One (Week 1), develop a 7-8 page literature review (not including the title page, abstract, and references page) on your construct of interest and the 5-7 instruments used to assess it. Thus, the literature review should explain your construct of interest thoroughly, as well as provide thorough reviews of the 5-7 instruments used to measure it. This is slightly different from other literature reviews, whereby the idea is to review and critique the study and findings. For this literature review you are not reviewing the study but rather are reviewing and critiquing the instrument based on what studies and other researchers have found. The idea here is to review the instrument and its usefulness in measuring your construct. Thus, what does the instrument measure, how reliable and valid is it, and what are its strengths and weaknesses?  What is lacking in the instrument which paves the way for the necessity of your newly developed instrument? How are these instruments different from what you will develop?Use the Forbush, Wildes, Pollack, Dunbar, Patterson and  Watson (2013) Development and validation of the Eating Pathology Symptoms Inventory (EPSI) and the O’Neill, and Sevastos (2013) The development and validation of a new multidimensional Job Insecurity Measure (JIM): An inductive methodology articles for examples of how to conduct literature reviews of current or previous instruments/tests.Use 5-7 scholarly resources, including mostly research studies and articles related to your construct and the instruments used to measure it. Information should be drawn from appropriate sources, such as professional journals, test publisher websites, and dissertations. Information gathered from sources must be appropriately cited, following APA guidelines. Please be sure to include the following in your literature review:A discussion of your construct of interest.A thorough discussion of each instrument you review for your construct, including the name of the test, what the test is used for, whether the test is appropriate for this area, what the reliability and validity of the test is, and what reviewers say about the strengths and weaknesses of it with regard to assessing this constructWhat, in general, appears to be adequately assessed on each test with respect to the construct that you selected? What does not appear to be adequately assessed?Your literature review should justify your development of an assessment—is there a hole in what is currently being assessed that you can fill with your test? Make a case for why your proposed test would address an area that is not already well assessed.
