Reply 1 Jean Watson’s Theory of Caring, focuses on the promotion of health, prevention of disease, taking care of patients, and getting them back to their baseline (No author, 2020). To accomplish this, Watson believed in the importance of holistic caring, where the focus is on the whole of the patient. There are seven assumptions that the theory of caring focuses on; Caring is done through interpersonal relationships. Caring is meeting the needs of the patients. Caring helps enhance the health of the patient and their family members. Caring is looking at who the patient is and who the patient is to be. Caring involves an environment where the patient can thrive and make choices for themselves. Caring goes hand in hand with curing the patient. Caring is the focus of the field of nursing (PSYCH-MENTAL HEALTH NP, 2020). This theory allows the nurses to create and work within an environment focused on the patient. By allowing this to take place, patients begin to trust the provider and become more accepting of the care provided to them. This trust leads to the healing of the patient in a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual context. References: No author. (2020, July 21). Watson’s philosophy and science of caring . Reply 2 By definition, a middle-range theory of nursing is more specific than Grand Nursing Theories and is often used to expose the more abstract grand nursing theories. Because it is more easily tested. It is often used to explain and predict particular phenomenon in clinical practice. Peterson defined a phenomenon as a reality designation (Peterson & Bredow, 2017, pg 1). One theory that I believe is particularly applicable to research is Katherine Kolcaba’s theory of comfort. Peterson defined comfort as the experience of gaining strength through having one physical, psychospiritual, sociocultural, and environmental needs met through relief, ease, and transcendence (Peterson & Bredow, 2017, pg 196). Kolcaba explained that ease is a state of calm or contentment; relief as the meeting of specific comfort needs; and transcendence as when one rises above problems or pain (Peterson & Bredow, 2017, pg 197). Coelho, Parola, Escobar-Bravo, and Apóstolo (2016) used Kolcaba’s theory of comfort to analyze the impact of comfort in palliative care. First, the authors looked at the factors that affect a patient’s comfort experience, which included physical and psychological comfort. It was explained in the article that the psychological aspects of comfort are often overlooked and not fully delivered to patients. Next, the authors analyzed how patients experienced comfort in a palliative setting from the patient’s perspective. The study intended to understand what prevents the patients from receiving comfort to create and execute comfort interventions. Reference Coelho, A., Parola, V., Escobar-Bravo, M., & Apóstolo, J. Link (article): The Opioid Epidemic: It’s Time to Place Blame Where It Belongs (Links to an external site.) Minimum of 1 scholarly source (in addition to the textbook and noted readings) Introduction The medical profession has a muddled and contradictory association with its approach toward the tobacco industry. While the profession now firmly opposes to smoking and vigorously publicizes the serious, even fatal, health hazards associated with smoking, this was not always so. Advertisements for tobacco products, including cigarettes “… became a ready source of income for numerous medical organizations and journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), as well as many branches and bulletins of local medical associations” (Wolinsky & Brune, 1994). Physicians and reference to doctors and smoking were once common in tobacco industry advertisements. The story of physicians and promotion of smoking can be found in “The Doctors’ Choice Is America’s Choice” (Gardner & Brandt, 2006). The role of physicians in the current opioid crisis is now under scrutiny on television (Farmer, 2019) by trade publications (King, 2018), peer-reviewed journals (deShazo, et al, 2018), and by physicians themselves (Hirsch, 2019). Initial Post Instructions For the initial post, research the history of the association of doctors with tobacco companies and tobacco advertising. Read about the association of doctors with the opioid crisis. Then, address the following: In what way are the two situations comparable? In what way are they different? Apply the concept of moral equivalence. Is the conduct of doctors in relation to smoking and the tobacco industry morally equivalent to the conduct of doctors in the opioid crisis? Explain your position and be very specific.

Yirlem: QD1. The development of a study utilizing qualitative research design requires the choice of a specific type of research and methods of collecting data and selecting the sample. I would like to investigate a social phenomenon. Thus, the type of this study will be phenomenological research. I will research the social phenomenon from the perspective of those who have experienced it. Thus, there is a need to choose a particular population that is affected by the chosen issue. The information from participants must be collected in an effective manner as well(Crossman, 2020). In terms of sampling, I would like to use the strategy of purposive sampling. Qualitative research focuses on attributes and relationships in a population. The selected sample has to help in discovering the meanings and multiple realities (Polit, 2017). The authors of the study have to establish the eligibility criteria for their work. Yirlen: QD2. Alcohol abuse may have severe consequences for the patient’s health, leading to life-threatening conditions. Patients often dismiss the reinforcing effects of their addiction, resulting in their emergent hospitalization. Frank is one of the patients who require immediate medical intervention as his alcohol abuse caused an inflammatory process in his stomach. If I were an ICU nurse, I would primarily pay attention to his epigastric pain that radiates to his back and severe abdominal pain. These symptoms indicate the presence of acute pancreatitis that may have even more severe symptoms. The patient’s bowel sounds are hypoactive, and it also accentuates the possibility of pancreatitis as the intestinal activity is disrupted. Moreover, I would consider such conditions as hypertension, respiratory viral infection, diaphoresis, and fever may all indicate alcoholic pneumonia Regarding treatment modalities, I would expect Frank to go through cognitive behavior therapy as alcohol addiction requires changes of his lifestyle to eliminate the inclination to alcohol abuse. Such an approach is beneficial for addictive behavior as it involves direct communication and self-analysis through it (Norris, 2021). Patients learn to analyze their thoughts and to differentiate between the positive and negative ones.
