I feel like I identify with Generation X. I am educated and working on my third degree. When I am not in college, I am constantly learning about something new. I ask a lot of questions because it helps me to learn. I am a visual learner. I value my time, and value the time of my coworkers. I appreciate open communication and being honest about everything at work. I respect fellow employees and try to empathize with them. I love to train new employees when asked to do so. I am motivated by a manager who leads by example in a genuine way. I am a self-motivated person and do not need someone constantly reminding me to do something. I will meet deadlines efficiently and love to see good results from my hard work. I believe hard working people are invaluable when it comes to a work place, no matter where one works. I believe the Millennials would be the most difficult generation to manage or motivate. Although this generation is team-oriented, they need constant feedback and reinforcement. This can be a challenge with the demands managers face today. Millennials tend to put too much emphasis on their image. Instant gratification is a characteristic of Millennials that would definitely be hard to manage. Giving these employees a constant pat on the back may be difficult in a busy setting. A Millennial could perceive this as the manager not noticing their good work when that’s not the case.

I NEED A POSITIVE COMMENT BASED IN THIS ARGUMENT. bETWEEN 200-250 WORDS “Successful communication between healthcare providers and their patients from different cultural backgrounds depends on developing awareness of the normative cultural values of patients and how these differ from the cultural values of most western medical professionals. When cultural differences are poorly understood, a variety of adverse clinical outcomes may result: reduced participation in preventive screenings, delayed immunizations, inaccurate histories, use of harmful remedies, non-compliance, and decreased satisfaction with care” (Carteret, 2011). There are many cultural considerations to be aware of while interviewing Sue Li who is of Asian American ethnicity. The Asian community as a whole is conservative no matter the sex of the person. Sue Li should first be asked if she would prefer to speak with a male or female nurse. Since the patient is only 20 years old there may be some resistance in communication. The Asian Community has a strong bond with family. Their family extends to include all relatives not just immediate members. Loyalty is expected within the family, and dishonor or disgrace is not tolerated. Self-control is expected from all family members this demonstrates stamina and strength in crisis. In the healthcare setting Sue Li may be unwilling to show strong emotions, pain, or grief because of cultural values. Cultural beliefs about health and sickness often conflict with Western medicine, which prevent some Asian-Americans from seeking help for symptoms or sticking with treatment. Another important consideration the nurse must check for is that Sue understands what she is being educated about. There may be a language barrier. Sue Li may give the nurse a gesture as though she understands when she is actually confused about her diagnosis or treatments. It will help if the nurse avoids asking yes or no questions. The nurse must also give the patient time if she wants to confer with her family. Unfortunately this can be time consuming and possibly delay care but building a trusting relationship is essential when dealing with different cultures (Carteret, 2011). The Abuse Assessment Screen (AAS) was created for the detection of abuse in pregnant women, and it is the oldest screening tool used today. It consists from three to five questions, and is also used to increase documentation in medical records. The questions assess physical, sexual, and emotional abuse prior to and during pregnancy. The AAS is usually conducted by the nurse but can be conducted other members of the hospital such as, counselors, physicians, or nutritionists. The tool is even translated into different languages, and it also includes body maps for documentation of injuries (Women’s Health, 2009). If abuse is discovered the nurse should not only report it but offer support to Sue Li. The nurse can provide her with resources to receive help and education. For instance, a nurse could give Sue Li the phone number of a domestic violence hotline. Also, the nurse may show Sue to a phone and an opportunity to make the call. After the nurse assesses Sue’s home environment and determines if it is safe the nurse can refer her to a battered women’s shelter. The National Domestic Violence Hotline, 1-800-799-SAFE, is an excellent source for both patients and nurses. These sources will allow the nurse to give Sue Li additional knowledge, encouragement, and the assurance that she can come back to the hospital for additional help (Carteret, 2011). (b) What is the abuse assessment screen? (c) If abuse is discovered, what should you do? Patient Information: Patient: Sue Li Age: 20 Ethnicity: Asian American A. Nurses must look at the big picture when approaching situations, especially those of cultural differences. What we do or don’t do during an assessment of a person of a different culture may make or break the encounter. In the scenario given, the patient is a 20-year-old Asian American female by the name of Sue Li. When assessing Ms. Li, I would use the appropriate tittle for her name unless told otherwise by the patient. I would then assess the situation of Ms. Li’s cultural background and what she is currently practicing. It may be that Ms. Li has completely assimilated to an American culture, or Ms. Li may need an interpreter, but I won’t know until I ask. I would then put Ms. Li at ease by explaining that we will take a holistic view at her current health status and that if there is anything special she would like me to know before the assessment (Chung, Nguyen, & Gany, 2002). During the assessment, I would let Ms. Li control the amount of eye contact that goes on because direct eye contact may be taken as a sign of disrespect. I would listen and acknowledge Ms. Li’s feelings and apprehensions. When speaking with Ms. Li I would use clear, concise, plain language to assure that she understands completely what is being discussed (Chung, et al., 2002). The nurse will also need to know the extent of traditional medicine Ms. Li has used and if she is taking any medicinal remedies that may cause complications with any medications prescribed. B. The Abuse Assessment Screen (AAS) is an assessment tool designed to screen for domestic violence and abuse during pregnancy by asking 3 to 5 questions about current emotional, sexual, and physical abuse before and during pregnancy (WHEC, 2016). The AAS also assesses the frequency and severity of the abuse if present. This assessment is performed when the patient is alone with the health care worker. C. If during the assessment there is abuse that is suspected or disclosed, the nurse must take a gentle approach in an open, nonjudgmental way. The nurse must be a good listener and validate the patient’s decision to speak up about the abuse. The nurse must communicate that this type of behavior is unacceptable and she does not deserve to be treated like that (Power, 2016). The nurse must assure that the patient is immediately in a safe situation especially if the abuser is nearby. The appropriate authorities must be notified so that an investigation can take place. In certain situations, such as a sexual assault or rape, there may be the need to call in a special team to take over the investigation (Power, 2016).
