Write your response to the stated question or statement using APA format.
Module Two Discussion Questions:
Module Two Discussion questions (listed below) are stated broadly to incorporate synthesis of information from the textbook as well as additional professional literature (research based, peer-reviewed, and such). The hope is to expand the mind to explore and share great exploratory thoughts based on literature at a graduate level.
The focus is to open with a broad base of how nursing diagnosis, nursing therapeutic taxonomies, evolution of nursing theories, and evidence-based practice connect and further nursing knowledge as well as the discipline of nursing (question one [1]). To thoroughly answer question one, use current professional literature.
After a broad discussion tying in nursing theory, move to discussion of grand theories (questions two [2]and three [3]). After discussion of grand theories move to discussion of middle-range theories (question four [4]), and comparison of grand and middle-range nursing theories (questions five [5], and six [6]) . To thoroughly answer questions two through six, use current professional literature and required textbooks.
If accessing the original source of a nursing theory, the year of the nursing theory creation may be older than “within the last three to five years.” The original source (older than within the last three to five years) of nursing theory may count as one professional source. The additional number of required professional literature needs to be within the last three to five years.
Please write thorough responses to each of the six questions listed below for Module 2 Discussion Board:
1. Identify how the development of nursing diagnosis and nursing therapeutic taxonomies contribute to advancing nursing knowledge. Identify how the support for evidence-based practice is an indication of progress in the nursing discipline.
2. Describe grand nursing theory. After describing grand nursing theory, explain two (2) examples of grand nursing theories.
3. Discuss the impact of grand nursing theories on patient care.
4. Describe middle range nursing theory. After describing middle range nursing theory, explain two (2) examples of middle range nursing theories.
5. Describe how middle range nursing theory differs from grand nursing theory.
6. Discuss the impact of middle range nursing theories as compared to grand nursing theories on patient care.

Case Study 4 – 2025
Mr. Gray, a 65-year-old man, was in an automobile accident in which he suffered a concussion. Soon after he was released, he noticed what he described as a “gray spot” in his field of vision. At first he ignored it, thinking it would go away, but the spot seemed to darken and spread over his visual field. He didn’t report any pain with the problem. On calling his physician, he was advised to go to the nearest hospital immediately. A detached retina was diagnosed.
After treatment, he regained most of his normal sight back. Five years later, he began having problems again. The central area of his visual field was becoming blurred, and he was losing his depth perception. An initial eye examination revealed neovascularization in both eyes.

Mr. Quinn, age 64 years, developed a severe headache several hours ago that has not responded to acetaminophen. Now his speech is slurred, and his right arm and the right side of his face feel numb. He is very anxious and is transported to the hospital. Mr. Quinn has a history of smoking and arteriosclerosis, and there is family history of CVA and diabetes. Assessment at the hospital indicated weakness on the right side, including facial asymmetry and a blood pressure of 220/110 Hg mm. A CT scan showed damaged tissue on the left side of the brain, and an angiogram indicated narrowing of the carotid arteries and middle cerebral arteries, with occlusion of the left middle cerebral artery.

Mr. Nimmo, age 66, has noticed excessive fatigue, muscle aches, and weakness in his legs for some time. His hands were shaking slightly, although his wife reported that the shaking appeared to stop when he fell asleep. Some unintentional head movements were also apparent. He remembers that his grandfather died in his mid-60s after suffering for years from a condition with similar symptoms. After several tests and the elimination of some other neuromuscular conditions, a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease was made for Mr. Nimmo.
