Importance of Reporting Results to Both Groups Providing feedback to team members is extremely important. Everyone wants to know if the time, effort, and funding is making a difference. Feedback is important from the stakeholders to make sure needed changes are working in the most streamlined manner. It is recommended to review the process every two years or as often as needed when evidence changes or practice needs change. Teaching the groups the importance of the long-term benefits of early childhood screenings and the financial incentives to both community and family are a must (Spruce, 2015). Communication Strategies Internal communication would include teaching screening methods, referral processes, and monitoring from the school perspective. In this discussion board, I will discuss one way that I will be able to evaluate whether my project made a difference in practice. The end goal of my project is to decrease admissions to the hospital by providing education on tobacco dependency. Tobacco use causes secondary illnesses such as heart attacks and strokes. Smoking is a major cause of coronary vascular disease and can raise triglycerides, lower HDL cholesterol, make blood sticky and more likely to clot, and cause thickening and narrowing of blood vessels (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2019). Patients that are admitted with an acute diagnosis such as myocardial infarction and stroke, are often educated on risk factors. Some risk factors cannot be changed such as family history, age, and race. Other risk factors can be changed to promote health such as smoking, diet, and exercise. Once the education is provided, nurse managers can audit charts to determine if readmission of the same diagnosis is made. This is one way to evaluate if my project made a difference in practice. Another method to evaluate my project would be through follow up appointments. Every patient that leaves the hospital is made a follow up appointment with their primary care provider. During the follow up visit, the doctor can determine if the teaching performed in the hospital was effective. The main objective of dissemination is to rise and encourage to spread the knowledge regarding evidence- based interventions. The main goal of enhancing better applications and patient outcome. There are various internal and external methods of disseminating evidence- based project. However, the method applied should be effective. The effectiveness characterized by positive engagement of the targeted audience, which enhances awareness, understanding and motivation to implement in the workplace. One of the hardest aspects of evidence-based practice (EBP) is making sure that the change we wanted to occur actually happens. So, evaluation of the results is a major component of evidence-based practice. It shows the progress that you have made throughout the process, it shows the failures and it also shows the success. As Ginex p states “Share the outcomes but also the process of your project: what worked, what didn’t, what you learned, and what you would do (or not do!) again” (Ginex, 2018). “Dissemination can occur in many forms within your organization and beyond, and it should be part of the planning process for the full project” (Ginex, 2018). One internal method of dissemination of the project can be the hospital board, nurses and physicians and other professionals involved in patient care. These people have the most power to make the most change necessary to make the EBP successful. An internal method of disseminating of my EBP is through my unit counsel group and policy committee. These groups to ensure my EBP project will be implemented according to unit needs. One external method of dissemination can be the patients and families. External dissemination doesn’t even have to be through people it can be used through posters or even through on-line media. The internal and external groups are very important to facilitate sharing knowledge and data in the nursing field. While evidence-based practices are continually being developed and studied, the results may not be looked at if not given attention by the right people (Harris, et al., 2011). That is what makes it so important to know who the information is given to. In my evidence-based practice project the internal method of disseminating my work will be to discuss it with the staff at the Calhoun County Public Health Department (CCPHD). This is the facility I will be targeting when it comes to discussing changes in lead levels in children. They will be able to review the material and discuss it to see if there are any practice changes or education which needs to happen with their client base after the material is given to them. When talking with CCPHD I would have a better chance of discussing things with them face to face. This would make things more personal and it would allow for questions to be answered. The external method I would use to help facilitate in disseminating my material would be the Michigan Department of Public Health. I could present the information to them at a State level to see if they may be interested in any practice changes. There is a rather large push in the State regarding lead as there has been so much exposure since the Flint Water Crisis, any new and relevant information regarding lead and its health effects would be welcome. I believe initially I would start with an email in order to communicate with the State of Michigan hoping for a response which could lead to a meeting with those involved in the State Lead Program.
