2025 Discussion Using Improvement Science Models to Promote Quality and Safety while all changes

NURS 6231: HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS AND QUALITY OUTCOMES – Discussion 7 (Grading Rubic and Media Attached) 2025

Discussion: Using Improvement Science Models to Promote Quality and Safety …while all changes do not lead to improvement, all improvement requires change. —United States Agency for International Development Improvement science models bring together research and evidence-based practice to identify the most effective ways to promote quality and safety in health care. As a central tenet of quality improvement, attention must be paid to the processes that contribute to outcomes. In this Discussion, you examine quality improvement models and evaluate how they could be applied to address specific issues within health care organizations. To prepare: Review the improvement models presented in the Learning Resources. Evaluate each of the models and select two on which to focus for this Discussion. Consider how each of the two models could be utilized in a health care organization to promote quality and safety. Think about the following: How does the model bring together research and evidence-based practice to facilitate quality improvement? How does the model contribute to a culture of quality and safety? How does it address changes in process? Reflect on the quality improvement issue and the health care setting that you are addressing for your Course Project. Of the two models that you have selected, determine which one you, as a nurse leader-manager, would use to address this issue. Also consider how this would relate to one or more of the IOM’s six aims for quality and safety. Post your analysis of how the two improvement models that you selected could foster a culture of quality and patient safety and facilitate changes in process that promote positive outcomes. Explain how you would use one of these models to address the quality improvement issue in the organization that you have selected for your Course Project, and how doing so would relate to one or more of the IOM’s six aims for improving quality and safety. Read a selection of your colleagues’ responses. Respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days using one or more of the following approaches: Offer additional strategies for using your colleague’s selected model to address the IOM’s six aims for quality. Share insights for engaging frontline staff using your colleague’s selected improvement model. Compare the steps in the improvement model that you selected with your colleague’s. Suggest an alternative model for your colleague to utilize in his or her identified health care organization. Required Readings Hickey, J. V., & Brosnan, C. A. (2012). Discussion 2025

i have 5 question In the 8 th Edition it is Chapters12—Research: How Health Care Advances and 13–Future of Health Care Due at 5PM CST, Monday, April 17, 2017 Answer the following questions on Research: How Health Care Advances: Definitions of the quality of medical care are no longer left to clinicians who decide for themselves what technical performance constitutes “good care.” Name one (1) other dimension of quality care and why is it important? What is the primary method of continuous quality improvement (CQI) in health care, and what is its underlying premise? Since an ever-increasing amount of research is funded by commercial companies, what is your opinion on a requirement for authors of scientific studies who receive income from these companies to disclose funding sources in their scientific publications? Future of Health Care Questions: Today’s not-for-profit hospitals and health systems are commonly multi-billion dollar tax-exempt organizations. What is your position on the new federal scrutiny upon, and reporting requirements for justifying the charitable missions of not-for-profit hospitals and health systems? In 1999, the Institute of medicine report, To Err is Human, generated a brief flurry of concerns about avoidable hospital deaths. While progress has been made in addressing system errors and deficiencies, it remains inconsistent across the nation’s hospitals. Fourteen years after this report, is it time for the professions, payers and the public to demand corrections of system problems in an accountable, transparent and publicly disclosed manner? What form can or should these demands take?

Planning for Data Collection 2025

Planning for Data Collection Data collection is an important part of both quantitative and qualitative research. Although the actual approach to gathering information may vary, for either research design, researchers need to plan in advance how the data will be gathered, reported, and stored, and they need to ensure that their methods are both reliable and valid. As nurses review research when considering a new evidence-based practice, it is important to be familiar with sound collection practices in order to ascertain the credibility of the data presented. Consider the following scenario: Nurses and other health care professionals are often interested in assessing patient satisfaction with health care services. Imagine that you are a nurse working in a suburban primary care setting that serves 10,000 patients annually. Your organization is very interested in understanding the patient’s point of view to help determine areas of care that can be improved. With this focus in mind, consider how you would create a survey to assess patient satisfaction with the services your organization provides. You may wish to consider variables such as the ease of accessing care, patient wait time, friendliness of the staff, or the likelihood that a patient would recommend your organization to others. For this Discussion, you generate questions and an overall plan for data collection that would be appropriate for a patient satisfaction survey in relation to the above scenario. To prepare: Consider the guidelines for generating questions presented in this week’s Learning Resources. Review the scenario and formulate at least five questions that you could use to evaluate patient satisfaction. Reflect on the different methods or instruments that can be used for gathering data described in Chapter 13 and Chapter 22 of the course text. Which methods or instruments would work well for the scenario? Determine an appropriate sample size for the scenario. Post the questions that you created for gathering information about patient satisfaction based on the above scenario. Explain which method or instrument you would use to gather data. Describe the sample size appropriate for the population and how you would select participants. Provide a rationale for your choices, and explain how you can ensure high standard of reliability and validity. Required Readings Polit, D. F., & Beck, C. T. (2017). Nursing research: Generating and assessing evidence for nursing practice (10th ed.). Philadelphia, PA: Wolters Kluwer. Chapter 12, “Sampling in Quantitative Research” This chapter introduces key concepts concerning sampling in quantitative research. This includes such concepts as a description of populations, different types of sampling and their uses, and how to determine a manageable, yet sufficient number to be included in a sample. The chapter also includes suggestions for implementing a sampling plan. Chapter 13, “Data Collection in Quantitative Research” Once a sampling design is complete, the next step is to collect the data, and this is the focus of Chapter 13. The chapter describes how to develop a data collection plan, and provides information about the different types of instruments that can be used, such as structured observation and biophysiologic measures. Chapter 22, “Sampling in Qualitative Research” The focus of this chapter is on the sampling process in qualitative research. The chapter describes the different types of sampling and when they are commonly used. Sampling techniques in the three main qualitative traditions (ethnography, phenomenological studies and grounded theory studies) are highlighted. Chapter 23, “Data Collection in Qualitative Research” This chapter examines the process of data collection in qualitative research as well as key issues surrounding data collection. This includes such methods as self-reporting, surveys, interviews, and personal journal keeping. The chapter also highlights important considerations when utilizing unstructured observations to gather data and how to record field notes. Keough, V. A., & Tanabe, P. (2011). Four written pages Case Study 1 Structure and Function of the Respiratory System Brad is 45 years old and has been working as a coal cutter in a mine for the last 25 years. He likes the job because it pays well and the same mine had employed his father. Like many of his colleagues, Brad has had problems with a chronic cough. He has avoided his annual checkups for fear that he will be told he has “black lung,” or coal worker’s pneumoconiosis. The disease causes fibrosis, decreased diffusing capacity, and permanent small airway dilation. In later stages, pulmonary capillaries, alveoli, and airways are destroyed. How can the disease described above create a mismatch between ventilation and perfusion? Use your understanding of alveolar dead space and physiologic shunt to explain your answer. Individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease have more difficulty exhaling than inhaling. Why is this so? In general terms, what mechanisms in lung disease can affect diffusing capacity across alveolar membranes? Use the Fick law to explain your answer.
