A baccalaureate nurse understands, relates, and values the fundamental elements of research, process, and designs as a foundation for an evidence-based practice (AACN, 2008; QSEN, 2018). 

Purpose:  

This assignment provides a learning activity for students to demonstrate understanding of quantitative and qualitative research, the purpose and importance of designs, and how research is critical for creating a credible evidence-based nursing practice. 

Course Outcomes:

CO 1:  Examine the sources of evidence that contribute to professional nursing practice. (PO 7)

CO 2:  Apply research principles to the interpretation of the content of published research studies. (PO 4 & 8)

CO 5:  Recognize the role of research findings in evidence-based practice. (PO 7 & 8)

4. Give a brief description of an objective you worked on this week. Make sure to cite at least one reference showing how your objective relates to the public health knowledge you’ve studied during this course or the public health course. Remember, your journal entries are an important aspect of clinical learning as they serve to help you reflect upon and get the most out of your community practice experience. Therefore, your journal entry should include the who, what, where, and when of your community practice experience. Remember, this should simulate a dialogue that would normally take place face-to-face with your community practice experience instructor.

The early years of the 20th century were host to  a number of unethical research studies. Research involving the way that  a young child reacts to and generalizes fear responses, medical  experiments conducted in concentration camps, and observing the way  people respond to authority were just a few of the most famous  experiments whose byproduct was placing clients in physical pain and/or  mental anguish. Since then, it has been recognized that research  subjects need to be protected from the flagrant disregard of  researchers. This week, you consider the guidelines in Walden  University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) document, “Research Ethics  FAQs for Doctoral Students in the Clinical/Intervention Fields:  Practical Tips for Avoiding Delays and Problems in the Research Approval  Process.”
