Contemporary Nursing Practice – 2025

The field of nursing has changed over time. In a 750‐1,000 word paper, discuss nursing practice today by addressing the following:

  1. Explain how nursing practice has changed over time and how this evolution has changed the scope of practice and the approach to treating the individual.
  2. Compare and contrast the differentiated practice competencies between an associate and baccalaureate education in nursing. Explain how scope of practice changes between an associate and baccalaureate nurse.
  3. Identify a patient care situation and describe how nursing care, or approaches to decision‐making, differ between the BSN‐prepared nurse and the ADN nurse.
  4. Discuss the significance of applying evidence‐based practice to nursing care and explain how the academic preparation of the RN‐BSN nurse supports its application.
  5. Discuss how nurses today communicate and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and how this supports safer and more effective patient outcomes.

Leadership Week 5 Chapters 6 & 7 – 2025

Read Chapter 6 & 7

1. Discuss the importance of effective communication in the personal relationship, the therapeutic relationship, and the relationship within the interprofessional health-care team.

2. What similarities and differences can you identify among the above interactions?

3. Explain the concept of congruence between verbal and nonverbal communication.

4. There are many pitfalls to electronic communication. Identify a situation in which an electronic form of communication may result in a miscommunication. What other method of communication would have been more effective?

5. How have you seen ISBAR used during your clinical experiences?

6- Develop a hand-off report for yourself. Include items that you believe are pertinent for safe and effective nursing care. Refer to the information in the chapter for creating this report form. Using the information from the chapter, determine the effectiveness of the system currently in use on your unit for communicating shift-to-shift reports.

7-Dr. Roberts comes into the nurses’ station demanding, “Where are Mr. Adams’s lab reports? I ordered these stat, and they’re not here! Who’s responsible for this patient?” How would you, as the nurse, respond?

8-Explain the concept of accountability in delegation. What are the legal ramifications of accountability in delegation?

9. Dennie and Elias arrive in the unit for the 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. shift. Both nurses completed orientation 4 weeks ago. They find that they will be the only two RNs on the floor that night. There is a census of 48 clients. The remaining staff consists of two NAPs/UAPsand one LPN. What are the responsibilities of the RN, NAP/UAP, and LPN? Can Dennie and Elias effectively delegate client care tasks and care safely for all 48 clients? Use the Delegation Tree to make your decisions.

10. Discuss the differences between direct delegation and indirect delegation.

1. You have to observe delegation procedures in your assigned unit:

A-What considerations does the RN take into account when delegating patient care?

2-You have to look at the unit census and prioritize the patient care:

A- Give the rationale foryour choices.

3.Answer the following questions during your clinical experiences:

a. What specific tasks did your patients require that you might have been able to delegate?

b. How effective was your nurse/preceptor in delegating tasks to others?

c. How did your nurse/preceptor ensure that the tasks were completed safely and appropriately?

2 Coments Each One 150 Words (CITATION AND REFERENCE) – 2025

Quantitative research utilizes a systematic way in an orderly manner to determine a problem and a subsequent solution to the issue (McNiff, Petrick, 2018).
Experimental researches are the gold-standard for research in medicine, biology, and so on. In an Experimental study, researchers can manipulate one or more independent variables, randomly assign participants to control or experimental group (treatment group), and compare them (Statistics Solutions 2020). If done accurately, experimental studies will provide evidence for cause and effect. Highly controlled environment (McNiff, Petrick, 2018). Example: effect of smoking cessation program on smoking pregnant women. A sample of 30 women from the same hospital (or GI clinic) was assigned to an experimental or control group. Smoking status was measured by self-report and biochemical measures. Data were collected before random assignment to groups and after three follow up points: after the first week of the session, in five months and after delivery of the baby. During educational sessions, nicotine replacement gum was provided fo the experimental group while the control group received brochures about how smoking affects pregnancy and lactation.
Non-experimental research can be just as impressive, but we cannot draw the same conclusions from it as we can with experimental research. The non-experimental study is usually descriptive or correlational. That means that we are either describing a situation or phenomenon just as it is, or we are defining a correlation between two or more variables. All without any intervention from the researcher meaning that we do not manipulate any variables (e.g., change the conditions that an experimental group undergoes) or randomly assign members to a control or treatment group. Without this level of control, we cannot determine any causal effects. High chance of bias (McNiff, Petrick, 2018). While validity is still a concern in non-experimental research, the concerns are more about the validity of the measurements, rather than the validity of the effect.
Example of correlational research: a randomized trial of 100 breastfeeding mothers, we arranged to determine the relationship of maternal age and anxiety in breastfeeding women during the immediate postpartum period. The result would be: A weak but significant negative relationship exists between age and anxiety; as age increases, anxiety decreases. As we can see Correlational research measures the statistical relationship between two or more variables and the degree of the relationship (cause/effect).

Experimental research is the most powerful qualitative method.it has a rigorous control of the variables.it It is an objective, systematic, and highly controlled investigation conducted for predicting and controlling phenomena. During the experimental design, the researcher uses a random assignment. they also manipulate a must be randomization, control a group, and manipulation of a variable while examining the direct cause or predicted relationship between variables.

Non-experimental research is research that lacks the manipulation of an independent variable, random assignment of participants to conditions or orders of conditions, or both.it focuses on examining variables as they would naturally occur. Some of the examples of experimental research are surveys, case studies, comparative studies, and descriptive studies. This research design has no random assignment, no control groups, and no manipulation of variables. The research method is observation only.

Experimental research provides convincing evidence that changes with an independent variable. this it results in the differences in a dependent variable. on the other hand, non-experimental research does not cause any change in the independent variables.

Cultural and Health Belief Systems

A worldview refers to an extensive and comprehensive outlook on life, reality and the universe. A worldview can be cultural, philosophical, liberal or even religious (Malham, 2017). It shapes an individual’s perspective on existence and trickles down to their daily activities and beliefs. It is indicative of a person’s view point, attitudes and beliefs. An individual’s worldview is also the nucleus of their cultural identity which is characterized by their beliefs, assumptions, values and attitudes, all derived from the socialization process in a specific cultural context. This is to say that a client’s cultural belief system refers to theories either based on culture or ethnicity that determine the way the client understands and structures their attitudes, health or otherwise. A cultural belief system is therefore a configuration of thoughts, notions, concepts and ideas in which their components are brought together by some form of functional reliance or interdependence (Daenikindt, de Koster, & va der Waal, 2017). Lastly, a paradigm refers to one of the components making up a worldview of cultural belief system. I could be a notion, theory or thought.

The magico-religious health belief system is based on a belief in supernatural or magical forces existing in the natural environment. Under this perspective, everything, including health and illness is in the hands of supernatural powers such as God or gods (De Angulo & Losada, 2017). Treatment can be by indigenous healers and is as a result of the influences of the supernatural forces. In the scientific/biomedical paradigm, however, no supernatural forces dominate. It focuses on solely on biological or physical components and processes excluding all others such as social and environmental influences. Under this paradigm, health and illness are under human control. Its characterized by determinism, mechanism, reductionism and objective materialism. Lastly, it stresses on medical or pharmacological approaches to treatment, approaches which essentially target abnormalities in biological processes (De Angulo & Losada, 2017). The holistic paradigm, unlike the scientific model asserts that all components/elements of a client’s life, be they social, physical, environmental, emotional, psychological and subjective have a bearing on their health. It is based on the laws of nature which require a balance of all the mentioned concepts. Lastly, every component is functionally important or has a role to play in an individual’s health. Their interactions can be nurturing or destructive (Fiandaca, Mapstone, & Federoff, 2017).

The professional healthcare system is inherently different from the folk care health system although there exist useful similarities. For one, professional care is characterized by professional or specialised education and training. Doctors, nurses and other professional healthcare providers undergo vigorous academic and practicum training for the to acquire the requisite skills as well as acquire practising licenses. Under the folk care system, although practitioners may undergo some form of training through apprenticeship, the same is not formal. Also, fork care practitioners such as lay midwives and spiritual healers are not licensed (Coreil, 2015). Secondly, professional healthcare is based on scientific and internationally recognized standards of health such as disease prevention, medical treatment patient ethics, etc. However, the folk care systems are based on cultural or religious beliefs and therefore differ between cultures, religions and other ethnic lines. This is because folk care systems across different settings embody the values, beliefs and treatment approaches of the particular cultural group in which its participants belong (Edelman, Mandle, & Kudzma, 2013). Lastly, as a result of the adherence to international standards, professional healthcare systems are organized, formal and structured unlike folk care systems that are diversified, informal and lack in structural uniformity. However, it is important to note that within a specific category of folk care say among rural Chinese practitioners. It is possible to identify a semblance of formality and uniformity.

Allopathy or allopathic medicine refers to a health system that relies on mainstream medicine and other mainstream healthcare practices. It can also be referred to as conventional, orthodox, western or mainstream medicine (Trimble & Rajaraman, 2017). It is the contemporary form of healthcare experienced in civilised societies today, where healthcare professionals such as doctors, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, therapists and other healthcare professionals undergo professional training and are afterwards licensed to provide healthcare services including the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. In allopathic medicine, the dominant care system is the professional as opposed to the folk care systems and treatment is via medicinal treatment or medication, surgery, radiation, dialysis and other medical or scientific based treatments and therapies (Trimble &  Rajaraman, 2017).  Along with mainstream medicine in allopathy are other forms of care, commonly referred to as complementary and alternative medicine. These may include the use of herbs, massage, yoga, meditation, sleep therapy, dream work and intuition. However, in most cases, especially in the use of herbs, patients are required to consult with their mainstream medicine care providers, that is, doctors, nurses, and other physicians. Complementary and alternative medicine practitioners are known to use the term allopathic medicine as a form of distinction between their practice and that of mainstream medicine.

Health Promotion W#4: Pros And Cons – 2025

Discussion #1: Pros and Cons to Delivering Community-Based Participatory Care to Those Who Are Vulnerable.

Performing health assessments as an Advance Practice Nurse (APRN) will help you to develop a collaborative partnership with your patients.  After reading Chapter 4 and 12 in your Pender text (see attached chapters), think about the vulnerable population that you choose: COMBAT VETERANS – consider what you perceive / know about this group in relation to the following topics:

1. Health assets

2. Health problems

3. Health-related lifestyle strengths

4. Key health-related beliefs

5. Health behaviors that put the person at risk

6. Changes that could improve their quality of life

Now consider the pros and cons of implementing a Community-Based Participatory Research health promotion project with the vulnerable group. You should consider not only the benefit of the actions but the active role the vulnerable will play in the development and implementation of the health promotion plan. How does your population’s health disparities and health inequities benefit and/or hinder this type of project’s success?

Remember that you should include citations/references from at least three scholarly sources.

Note: My background for you to have as a reference: I am currently enrolled in the Psych Mental Health Practitioner Program, I am a Registered Nurse, I work at a Psychiatric Hospital, where I also work with this vulnerable population.

Environmental Factors and Health Promotion Presentation

The growth, development, and learned behaviors that occur during the first year of infancy have a direct effect on the individual throughout a lifetime. For this assignment, research an environmental factor that poses a threat to the health or safety of infants and develop a health promotion that can be presented to caregivers.

Create a 10-12 slide PowerPoint health promotion, with speaker notes, that outlines a teaching plan.

In developing your PowerPoint, take into consideration the health care literacy level of your target audience, as well as the demographic of the caregiver/patient (socioeconomic level, language, culture, and any other relevant characteristic of the caregiver) for which the presentation is tailored

Include the following in your presentation:

  1. Describe the selected      environmental factor. Explain how the environmental factor you selected      can potentially affect the health or safety of infants.
  2. Create a health promotion plan      that can be presented to caregivers to address the environmental factor      and improve the overall health and well-being of infants.
  3. Offer recommendations on      accident prevention and safety promotion as they relate to the selected      environmental factor and the health or safety of infants.
  4. Offer examples, interventions,      and suggestions from evidence-based research. At least three scholarly      resources are required. Two of the three resources must be peer-reviewed      and no more than 6 years old.
  5. Provide readers with two      community resources, a national resource, and a Web-based resource.      Include a brief description and contact information for each resource.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines,
