Assignment Description: Students will be required to select and evaluate a research article on evidenced-based practice that relates to nursing practice and health assessment by providing:  The link to the electronic source for the article.  A brief summary and critique of that article. Learning Objectives:  Describe and summarize the content and essential argument of the article in a concise format.  Select a research article that pertains to the management of health for a specific population (i.e.: stage in life cycle, medical condition, cultural/ethnicbackground).  Critique the selected research article related to evidenced-based practice.  Practice critical thinking skills in critical reading. Required Format: The assignment must be 2-3 pages (not counting resources)  Name of the author (s), title of the article, type of journal, volume number, date, and page numbers.  A paragraph abstract of the article to summarize the essential content/ideas.  A paragraph describing your view of the article’s balance. Did the writer address both sides of the issue? Was there bias involved and if so, slanted towards which side? What is your evidence of this bias or imbalance?  A paragraph describing your opinion of the article’s quality and your own position: o Did the writer do sufficient research? o Is the article technically correct and clearly presented and supported? o Are there elements of the argument that could have been enhanced with more detail or more argumentation? o What would a follow-up article contain to be useful to this one? o Did you agree with the article? 2 | P a g e o Did it support or change your opinion? If not, then why?  The final paper should be typed, double-spaced on one side of white standard (8 ½ X 11 inch) paper. Proofread your final copy carefully to avoid spelling or grammatical errors. Not so good sources:  Non-research journals – These are not great sources for evidenced-based practice articles, but rather provide basic information and/or explanations of a disease process, medications, etc. 

•  Overview: You will develop a presentation consisting of 8 –10 slides for the leaders of a health care organization or community-based care delivery service in which you explore current organizational or community resources for a specific situation related to care delivery.

  To affect quality care coordination as a leader in practice, you have to understand the outcomes you want to achieve, the best practice that supports the outcomes, the related legal and ethical concerns and how to determine recommendations to produce the outcomes.   Context
  Using health care information systems to effect change is critical to creating quality outcomes. A leader in practice for care coordination needs to be able to measure and evaluate change using data.
  Requirements
  You will develop a presentation for the leaders of a health care organization or community-based care delivery service in which you explore current organizational or community resources for a specific situation related to care delivery. Your presentation will include either voice-over or video of you speaking about your presentation to the audience. Your slides should include bulleted points (one line each) that highlight your points for each topic. Your slides should not be text-intensive; put all the details in the speaker notes.
  PRESENTATION FORMAT AND LENGTH
  At a minimum, your presentation must include the following slides:
  
  • Title.
  • Purpose (the reasons for your presentation).
  • A specific situation related to care delivery and current organizational or community resources.
  • The legal and ethical issues that can occur due to the current practice.
  • Recommendations for improvement and a comparison to current practice.
  • An evidence-based intervention.
  • Explanation of data use and interprofessional support.
  • References (at the end of your presentation).
  • The content of your presentation should consist of 8–10 slides, not including the title, purpose, and references slides. Do not exceed 10 slides as this could create problems for submitting your work to SafeAssign.

    SUPPORTING EVIDENCE
    In your presentation:
  • Cite 5–7 sources of credible, scholarly, or professional evidence to support your analysis and recommendations.
  • List your sources on the references slide.
  • PRESENTATION TOOLS
    You may use Microsoft PowerPoint or any other suitable presentation software to create your slides. If you elect to use an application other than PowerPoint, check with your faculty to avoid potential file compatibility issues.
    Use the speaker’s notes section of each slide to develop your talking points and cite your sources, as appropriate. If you need help designing your presentation, you are encouraged to review the various presentation resources provided for this assessment. These resources will help you to design an effective presentation, whether you choose to use PowerPoint or other presentation software.
    You have the option of either recording a voice-over track for your presentation or creating a video of you speaking about your presentation to the audience. In the latter, the presentation will be in the background and you will be on camera. In either case, you may use Kaltura or similar software for your audio or video recording.     For this assessment, you will create a presentation for the leaders of a health care organization or community-based care delivery service to explore current organizational or community resources for a specific situation related to care delivery. Following these instructions will help ensure you meet the scoring guide criteria:
  • Begin your presentation with a description or summary of a specific situation related to care delivery and current practices. Analyze the legal and ethical issues that can occur due to the current practice.
  • Recommend best practices (interventions) and compare against current practice outcomes or data. Include the positive effects of the intervention for the support of ethical and legal practices.
  • Identify an effective evidence-based intervention from existing research applicable to your situation. Define stakeholders, including organizations, settings, and populations affected. Be inclusive when considering the range of stakeholders.
  • Define interprofessional support for the intervention. Explain not only if this includes stakeholders, but also who is responsible in collaboration with care coordination leader for developing, implementing, and sustaining the intervention.
  • Explain how you will measure baseline data. (What data are currently in place? Does current data show if practices are effective? Are benchmarks being met? Is there a gap in practice?) Define the scheduled evaluation periods you will use to monitor and measure data outcomes (for example, systematic evaluations or other).
  • Conclude by developing recommendations to sustain the intervention outcomes for improved practice.

Course Project—Part 2

Instructional Unit: Goals, Objectives, and the Teaching Plans

In a Microsoft Word document of 6-7 pages formatted in APA style, submit your instructional unit, which should include three lesson plans: one focused on patient education, one on family education, and one on staff development. Remember, your plans should demonstrate a logical approach to teaching, communicate what is to be taught and how, and outline how objectives are to be evaluated. Building on the work that you started in Week 2, for all three groups of learners:

What is an annotated bibliography? 

An annotation is a summary and/or evaluation. An annotated bibliography includes the bibliographic citation and a summary and/or evaluation of each of the sources. For this assignment you are asked to provide both a summative and evaluative paragraph.

2. You will then write two paragraphs. You will select 1 article (there are four articles to choose from) related to patient safety.

Professional Practice Model

Many health care systems use a Professional Practice Model (PPM) rather than or in addition to a nursing theoretical framework to provide a foundation that exemplifies nursing practice in that facility. The PPM provides clarity for decision making, for directing change, and for sustaining authentic relationships between disciplines and with patients and families. The PPM provides focus for evaluation of structures, processes, and outcomes. It can be instrumental in generating new ideas and approaches. Effective use of a PPM helps nurses establish professional identity and results in higher job satisfaction. Effective PPMs have also been linked to excellence in nursing practice, which results in improved outcomes for patients and families.

Purpose:  The purpose of this assignment is to identify a PPM that is used by a specific healthcare system and describe its components and how they affect the nursing profession and patient care.

Instructions:

· Research and choose a health care system that uses a professional practice model that describes the environment for professional nursing practice.

· Prepare and present write-ups that:

· Describe the healthcare system (number of facilities, location, patient beds, specialty [if any]).

· Provide a general overview of the PPM adopted or developed by the healthcare system (some systems use an already developed PPM, and others create their own PPM to meet their individualized needs).

· Describe the components of the PPM

 For example—professional values, leadership and governance structures, professional relationships and development of nurses.

 Present a short critique of the PPM.  Things to consider:

 Does it clearly provide a framework for nursing practice?

 Does it clearly provide a basis for delivery of holistic patient care?
