Structural Versus Strategic Family Therapies

Although structural therapy and strategic therapy are both used in family therapy, these therapeutic approaches have many differences in theory and application. As you assess families and develop treatment plans, you must consider these differences and their potential impact on clients. For this Assignment, as you compare structural and strategic family therapy, consider which therapeutic approach you might use with your own client families.

In a 3-page paper, address the following:

       Advocacy is one of the best tools that nurses can use to advancing the nursing field. Improve the nursing field means better patient outcomes. therefore, nurses must advocate in their workplaces and particularly in actively participating in government actions that change the health platform. Those actions include healthcare reforms that look for a better quality of care, access the healthcare, and healthcare cost-effective. The American Nurse Association provide tools to nurses that allow them to integrate advocacy committee to be able to work with the legislative branch of federal level as well as the state level (ANA, n.d.). in taking advantage of the advocacy committees, nurses can take many actions to improve healthcare trough legislation at both states and federal level.
Through the political action committee provided by the American Nurse Association, nurses can present themselves as candidates to represent the healthcare professional in capitol hill and other legislative activities at the state level. In doing so, nurse leaders will have the opportunity to raise their voices in policymaking, particularly within the legislative and regulatory arenas. They will bring their concerns about the nursing workforce and health disparities, which are examples of policies established in law. Their interventions are very important because health care policy is constantly changing; and nurses must always be part of the change analyst team to advocate not only their scope of practice but also the patient right to have access to health care and to receive excellent quality of care (Schaeffer & Haebler, 2019).
Nurses may use their researches and communicate with their concerns to their local government. As an example, a bill was taken in the state of Florida that authorizes qualified providers to collect medicine that was available in hospitals and other healthcare facilities. Still, those who had the prescription could not use it. Those medicines were ordered to serve homeless and other uninsured patients who cannot afford their medicine cost. Even though the senate’s health committee introduced the bill, nurses had to analyze the proposition and look if the patient’s right was considered and the consequences on patient outcomes.
In summary, there are many ways a nurse can intervene to advocate for better quality and access to healthcare. The patient center care should be the primary concern of the health care professional. Nurses may use the Association of American Nurses’ possibilities to get to federal and state legislators to bring their voices to health committees. Their concern must be affordable health care, improve healthcare access, improve quality of care, and improve the regulation of their scope of practice. When nurses are working closer to the governments, they can advocate for patient care and establish better means for improving the health care system. Nurse leaders should always think of how to make s difference in the quality of care that all patients deserve. That is why I plan to advocate not only in searching for issues that are raised in workplaces but also those that are in the laws to make a difference in patient care outcomes.

Personal Philosophy of Nursing

Goal:

In this module we are learning about how stress and violence can impact families. I want you to take a moment to think about all that you have to be thankful for. Often we take for granted the resources that we have at our fingertips. Take a moment to think of the families that have been ripped apart by war, like those in the middle East or Africa or violent crime and corruption in Central America. These families are fleeing their homes that have been reduced to rubble with little to nothing. No promise of food or a warm, safe place to sleep at night, just hope that someone will help them find a safe place for their children to live.

Take a moment to put yourself in their shoes. What if your family was in this position? How would you feel? What would you do? I can only imagine the extreme amount of stress and hopelessness that these parents feel.

These crises have been turned in to political fodder as of late. Yes, we need to be vigilant about protecting ourselves, but we also need to think about our fellow mankind that just want the same things for their children that we do. We are all human, regardless of where we are born or where we live. 

The goal of this weeks DB is not to get in to a political debate, but rather to take the perspective of some of these families. What do they go through, and what do they have to do to escape? Lastly, I hope to encourage empathy. Remember, one of the overarching goals of this course is to build kind, caring communities. So, how would you feel if you were a refugee fleeing a war torn country, and what would you do?

1. Search for the story about an immigrant family from a war torn country. This does not have to be a peer reviewed article, but you do need to provide a proper APA citation and reference. The family doesn’t have to be from Syria. Read about the family or watch a video. Describe what you have learned in your post and what you feel could have been done to better help this family escape violence (include links or citations to your sources). Be sure to refer back to the course material for this week linking this topic with what you have learned from the readings (including a reference and citation) as well as a small personal reflection. Stress has a horrible impact on families and developing children, so linking the material should be easy.

2. Do an internet search for the criteria that families must meet seeking asylum/refugee status in a country other than their own. I’m hoping there is a wide representation of the globe here, so move out of your comfort zone and try not to pick the USA. Your source does not have to be peer reviewed, but I would highly suggest you search for government websites, not blogs. Find out what the immigration requirements are for these families in the country that you are researching and report back on them. Describe the process and resources for these families and the requirements they have to meet in order to immigrate to that country (include citations and references for your sources). Be sure to refer back to the course material for this week linking this topic with what you have learned from the readings (including a reference and citation) as well as a small personal reflection.

I want to reiterate that this is not to be a political exercise or argument. I simply want to provide you with an opportunity to take the perspective of others and become informed on the often extreme measures that one has to take to escape a place where their lives are being torn apart.

 It is estimated that more than 6% of the U.S. population will experience post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in their lifetime (National Center for PTSD, 2010). This debilitating disorder often interferes with an individual’s ability to function in daily life. Common symptoms of  anxiousness and depression frequently lead to substance abuse issues and  even physical ailments. For this Discussion, as you examine the Thompson Family Case Study in this week’s Learning Resources, consider how you might assess and treat clients presenting with PTSD.  

 Post on or before Day 3 an explanation of your observations of the client William in Thompson Family Case Study,  including behaviors that align to the PTSD criteria in DSM-5. Then,  explain therapeutic approaches you might use with this client, including  psychotropic medications if appropriate. Finally, explain expected outcomes for the client based on these therapeutic approaches. Support  your approach with evidence-based literature.
