Consider what you might put in a toolbox if you were going to build something in your home. You might want a hammer, some nails, maybe a level, and if they were available power tools could be a big help and perhaps may the project finish more quickly. The most important part of your toolbox is having tools you know how to use properly and keeping them at your fingertips, ready to use when needed. 

Now that we have reviewed the benefits of focusing on your strengths, as much if not more than areas with room for growth, consider what you would want to have in your leadership toolbox. What strengths have you identified that are your primary tools as a leader? What strength would be the first tool you might take out of your toolbox if you needed to help organize a skilled team? Would you choose a different tool if you moved into a team that had never worked together before?

For this assignment, imagine you are the leader of a group in one of your courses and the assignment is to do a semester-long service learning project. You will need to identify and discuss specific things you could do to create a positive climate, positive relationships, positive communication, and positive meaning in a group with your peers.

First, consider the strengths you have that would help you lead this semester-long project. In your response of at least 300 words include what you would include in your leadership toolbox to help you create a positive and productive leadership style to support your team.

Create a 250-350 word response that includes the following:

• Paragraph 1: Identify at least three of your leadership strengths that are in your leadership toolbox that you can rely on supporting you as a leader in a variety of settings. Include a short description of the strength and why you feel it would be helpful to you as a leader.
• Paragraph 2: Describe what you would use from your toolbox if you were the new leader of a team that was highly skilled in their field. Why do you feel this would be the best choice for this team?
• Paragraph 3: Discuss which choice you would make if you were asked to be the leader of a team that had never worked together before. Provide an explanation of why you would or would not choose something different from your toolbox for this group. 

Please keep in mind, even if you have not had an opportunity to lead a group formally, you can reflect on how you have provided leadership in many different settings to help support your thinking for this reflection.

Consider a hypothetical scenario based on your own healthcare practice or organization that would require or benefit from the access/collection and application of data. Your scenario may involve a patient, staff, or management problem or gap. Explain the concept of a knowledge worker.

• Define and explain nursing informatics and highlight the role of a nurse leader as a knowledge worker.
• Include one slide that visually represents the role of a nurse leader as knowledge worker.
• Your PowerPoint should Include the hypothetical scenario you chose. Include your examination of the data that you could use, how the data might be accessed/collected, and what knowledge might be derived from that data. Be sure to incorporate feedback received from your colleagues’ responses.

Follow the 3 x 3 rule: minimum three paragraphs per DQ, with a minimum of three sentences each paragraph.

Research the health-illness continuum and its relevance to patient care. In a 750-1,000 word paper, discuss the relevance of the continuum to patient care and present a perspective of your current state of health in relation to the wellness spectrum. Include the following:

1. Examine the health-illness continuum and discuss why this perspective is important to consider in relation to health and the human experience when caring for patients.
2. Explain how understanding the health-illness continuum enables you, as a health care provider, to better promote the value and dignity of individuals or groups and to serve others in ways that promote human flourishing.
3. Reflect on your overall state of health. Discuss what behaviors support or detract from your health and well-being. Explain where you currently fall on the health-illness continuum.
4. Discuss the options and resources available to you to help you move toward wellness on the health-illness spectrum. Describe how these would assist in moving you toward wellness (managing a chronic disease, recovering from an illness, self-actualization, etc.).

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

Create a PowerPoint presentation of 14-16 slides with speaking notes on the new regulations impacting the practice as a result of the Affordable Care Act.

Introduction

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA or ACA) was signed into law by President Barack Obama in 2010. The ACA attempts to increase access to care, reduce cost, and improve quality. Nearly 50 different reform initiatives were implemented between 2010 and 2017. Although primary care is a major focus of the act, these additional initiatives are focused on 10 different areas, including public health, prevention of disease, community health, and increasing revenue provisions to pay for the reform (Niles, 2021). The law has been controversial due to the mandate that all Americans must purchase health insurance.

The U.S. government plays a significant role in the operation of the country’s health care system. Quality, access, funding, education, and preventative services are all influenced by the U.S. government (Niles, 2021), and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has further increased the role and involvement of the government in health care. All health care administrators must be knowledgeable on the role of the government.

Numerous governmental organizations exist, such as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Office of the Surgeon General to name a few. Each organization exists for a specific purpose and has a specific mission. Your role as an administrator will be to understand the scope of these agencies and to help your organization meet or exceed the governmental mandates imposed by each.

Instructions

Imagine you are an office manager for a ten-physician primary care practice. You have been asked by the physician group to research and give a presentation on the new regulations impacting the practice as a result of the Affordable Care Act. Using the resources provided, plus at least two other peer-reviewed articles based on your own research, develop a PowerPoint presentation of 14–16 slides, complete with speaking notes. Address the following:

• Explain the Affordable Care Act and its impact on the U.S. health care system and on the practice of health care in the United States.
• Analyze current trends in policy, and predict future reforms as a result of the current state.
• Explain how regulatory agencies have evolved to address health reform and policy.
• Explain how health care reform and policy have impacted health care quality and cost.

You might want to (but do not have to) organize your presentation using the following outline:

• Slide 1: Title of the Presentation.
• Slide 2: Brief explanation of the purpose of the presentation.

Presentation Requirements

Your presentation should consist of:

• 14–16 bulleted slides.
• Speaker notes that fully explain each slide.
• A minimum of two peer-reviewed references, in addition to resources offered in this course or that you find yourself, including government websites.
• Appropriate APA citations and peer-reviewed references on each slide, as necessary.

General Guidelines for PowerPoint

• Keep the design simple. Font: Arial or Verdana, size 24-point, minimum.
• Keep the slides concise: 5–7 bullet points per slide and 5–7 words per bullet. Use speaker notes to explicate the bullets.
• For best color contrast, use light text on dark background (for example, yellow on black, white on dark blue).
• Use the proper slide layout. For example, if a slide has a title and text, it is created using the correct Title and Text layout.
