Module 2 Discussion Post 2 – 2025

Formulate one new comment of your own. It must be a logical and thoughtful response that synthesizes the comments of 2 students.

Also directly respond to at least one classmate below in a way that extends meaningful discussions, adds new information, and/or offers alternative perspectives.

student 1. The target population that I am studying for this course is the Hispanic population in Florida. I plan to use sources such as local government websites such as the Florida Department of Health, to get a further understanding of health behaviors among the Hispanic population in Florida.

There are many sources to gain the knowledge that I need to understand the behaviors of the Hispanic population in Florida, different sources will offer different information to get the best understanding. Journal articles will be beneficial to gain knowledge from people who work around the topic, websites are also beneficial to gaining information because there are many government websites that share valid information. Looking at news reports on the topic can give information about specific communities and further information about how the people in the community feel and how the behaviors of the target population is having a negative effect on their health.

student 2. The target population I’m exploring to get a better understanding of behaviors is the Hispanic/Latino population in Waukegan, IL.  The sources I plan to utilize will be peer reviewed, scholarly journals, local websites, and case studies.

Waukegan, IL population have over 87.6 thousand people. A majority of the resident there, 55.6 percent, are Hispanic/Latino (Data USA, n.d.). Many are undocumented and lack health insurance coverage. Utilizing peer review sources and scholarly journals will provide scholarly reviews writing and reviewed by experts. This will help to ensure my presentation has articles of good quality and scientifically valid.

The best way to address the health issues that affect the Hispanic population is to get a clear understanding of how they think and other factors such as the biological, behavioral, physical, and socioenvironmental areas (Institute of Medicine, 2002). So, when developing my presentation, I plan to use local websites such press releases, new reports, and case studies to reach and engage the Hispanic community and community leaders.

Evidence Synthesis – 2025

Does the author clearly identify the scope of the evidence synthesis? Explain your rationale.

A more structured methodology is needed for the reader or researcher to synthesize and implement the findings into a practice change (Iwarsson, 2016). It was evident the authors’ focus was on patient falls; however, it was difficult to identify the scope of the evidence synthesis because of the generalized paraphrasing of each article. Also, it would have been more meaningful and impact the reader if the author had provided evidence about the increasing costs associated with patient falls.

Are strong paraphrased sentences included that are supported by contemporary sources of research evidence? Explain your rationale.

The author did not write strong paraphrased sentences to support the cited sources but made generalized statements from each article. If the author had been more congruent and related the articles and evidence in harmony with each other (CCN, 2021), the reader would then understand the brevity of the information and make an informed decision whether to include these findings in their practice change/or not.

Are the facts related to the practice problem presented objectively? Explain your rationale.

Others need to trust the results noted in the studies being presented (Cook, et al., 2020), and this author was objective and factual with the evidence highlighted and cited each article appropriately.

Does the author use sources to support ideas and claims, and not the other way around? Explain your rationale.

The author clearly cited the sources to support ideas and claims about the issues associated with patient falls and did not assert their own opinions. Each article denoted important and useful findings of the multifactorial problems with patient falls, including staffing shortages and other causative factors.

Based on your appraisal, is this exemplar a true synthesis of the evidence? Or is it a summary of the evidence? Explain your rationale.

This exemplar’s appraisal was not a true synthesis of the evidence but a short summation about patient falls. For the evidence to be synthesized, the author should have linked each research study’s findings together to better support their claims (CCN, 2017), rather than just paraphrasing the evidence being presented.

Essay – 2025 2 Diane age 22 has been in labor for 8 hours Her cervical exam

Nursing Assignment Help

Essay – 2025

2. Diane, age 22, has been in labor for 8 hours. Her cervical exam reveals she is 3 cm, 30% effaced and, –1 station. Diane has been feeling most of her pain in her lower back. (Learning Objectives 3, 4, and 5)

  1. Given your understanding of the five Ps and the cardinal      movements of labor, discuss why Diane is having back labor and why her      progress is slow.
  2. What strategies may the nurse implement to assist Diane in      progressing in her labor?

Case Studies, Chapter 14, Nursing Management During Labor and Birth

1. Desiree, a 28-year-old G2P1, is admitted to the labor and birth unit. Her birth plan indicates that she is planning natural childbirth without pharmacologic interventions. She has attended childbirth education classes. Desiree is considered low risk based on her personal and family health history and physical exam. Her pregnancy has progressed without complications. She is approximately 38 weeks pregnant. Vaginal assessment reveals cervical dilation at 10 cm, 100% effaced, and +1 station. Position of the fetus is LOA. The external fetal monitor indicates a reassuring fetal heart rate at 130 bpm. Maternal status is stable. (Learning Objectives 1, 2, 5, and 8)

  1. Based on the vaginal assessment, identify the stage of      labor and appropriate nursing interventions for this stage of labor.
  2. Explain how the nurse determined that the external fetal      monitor would be appropriate for Desiree. What factors would necessitate a      change to internal fetal monitoring during labor?

Desiree says, “I’m not sure I can cope with the pain much longer.” How would you respond, considering her birth plan, stage of labor, and assessment data?

2. Emily, a 26-year-old G3P2, has been in labor for 5 hours and is 7 cm, 90% effaced, and +2 station. She has external fetal monitoring in place, which reveals a baseline fetal heart rate of 120 bpm, minimal variability, and occasional variable decelerations. Suddenly, as a contraction is beginning to subside, the fetal heart rate drops to a low of 80 bpm and has a slow return to the baseline 1 minute after the contraction has ended. (Learning Objectives 3 and 4)

a. What is happening to Emily’s baby at this point in time? What does this mean?

b. What role do you, as the nurse, play regarding fetal assessment and what interventions do you need to implement/recommend at this point in time?

CASE STUDY – 2025

Based on this case study answer the questions below in APA Style, more than 300 words, and please cite 3 or more references .

“Mrs. Walsh, a woman in her 70s, was in critical condition after repeat coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Her family lived nearby when Mrs. Walsh had her first CABG surgery. They had moved out of town but returned to our institution, where the first surgery had been performed successfully. Mrs. Walsh remained critically ill and unstable for several weeks before her death. Her family was very anxious because of Mrs. Walsh’s unstable and deteriorating condition, and a family member was always with her 24 hours a day for the first few weeks. The nurse became involved with this family while Mrs. Walsh was still in surgery, because family members were very anxious that the procedure was taking longer than it had the first time and made repeated calls to the critical care unit to ask about the patient. The nurse met with the family and offered to go into the operating room to talk with the cardiac surgeon to better inform the family of their mother’s status. One of the helpful things the nurse did to assist this family was to establish a consistent group of nurses to work with Mrs. Walsh, so that family members could establish trust and feel more confident about the care their mother was receiving. This eventually enabled family members to leave the hospital for intervals to get some rest. The nurse related that this was a family whose members were affluent, educated, and well informed, and that they came in prepared with lists of questions. A consistent group of nurses who were familiar with Mrs. Walsh’s particular situation helped both family members and nurses to be more satisfied and less anxious. The family developed a close relationship with the three nurses who consistently cared for Mrs. Walsh and shared with them details about Mrs. Walsh and her life. The nurse related that there was a tradition in this particular critical care unit not to involve family members in care. She broke that tradition when she responded to the son’s and the daughter’s helpless feelings by teaching them some simple things that they could do for their mother. They learned to give some basic care, such as bathing her. The nurse acknowledged that involving family members in direct patient care with a critically ill patient is complex and requires knowledge and sensitivity. She believes that a developmental process is involved when nurses learn to work with families. She noted that after a nurse has lots of experience and feels very comfortable with highly technical skills, it becomes okay for family members to be in the room when care is provided. She pointed out that direct observation by anxious family members can be disconcerting to those who are insecure with their skills when family members ask things like, “Why are you doing this? Nurse ‘So and So’ does it differently.” She commented that nurses learn to be flexible and to reset priorities. They should be able to let some things wait that do not need to be done right away to give the family some time with the patient. One of the things that the nurse did to coordinate care was to meet with the family to see what times worked best for them; then she posted family time on the patient’s activity schedule outside her cubicle to communicate the plan to others involved in Mrs. Walsh’s care. When Mrs. Walsh died, the son and daughter wanted to participate in preparing her body. This had never been done in this unit, but after checking to see that there was no policy forbidding it, the nurse invited them to participate. They turned down the lights, closed the doors, and put music on; the nurse, the patient’s daughter, and the patient’s son all cried together while they prepared Mrs. Walsh to be taken to the morgue. The nurse took care of all intravenous lines and tubes while the children bathed her. The nurse provided evidence of how finely tuned her skill of involvement was with this family when she explained that she felt uncomfortable at first because she thought that the son and daughter should be sharing this time alone with their mother. Then she realized that they really wanted her to be there with them. This situation taught her that families of critically ill patients need care as well. The nurse explained that this was a paradigm case that motivated her to move into a CNS role, with expansion of her sphere of influence from her patients during her shift to other shifts, other patients and their families, and other disciplines” Critical thinking activities 1. Discuss the clinical narrative provided here using the unfolding case study format to promote situated learning of clinical reasoning (Benner, Hooper-Kyriakidis, & Stannard, 2011). 2. Regarding the various aspects of the case as they unfold over time, consider questions that encourage thinking, increase understanding, and promote dialogue, such as: What are your concerns in this situation? What aspects stand out as salient? What would you say to the family at given points in time? How would you respond to your nursing colleagues who may question your inclusion of the family in care? 3. Using Benner’s approach, describe the five levels of competency and identify the characteristic intentions and meanings inherent at each level of practice
