Select an infectious disease and research the CDC website for: 

A. Information about the disease using the natural history of disease;from point of disease causing agent contact to full manifestation, or only the epidemiolic triangle model by including outbreak characteristics.

B. Identify an occurrence of the disease by searching the Internet for recent reports of this disease,

C.) Compare that episode or occurrence with information from the CDC website. How closely did that outbreak resemble the case definition? Explain the purpose of the CDC case definition.

Part 2- Turning in your final treatment plan and Analysis  

The final treatment plan will include the primary diagnosis, diagnostic testing recommended by National Guidelines. Medications, interventions, education, labs, follow up, referrals. After completing the treatment plan include the following sections in a large area called ANALYSIS:

1. Pathophysiology and Pharmacology: For the primary diagnoses in the case, write a brief summary of the underlying pathophysiology and tie pharmacological treatment chosen in the reversal or control of that pathology.

2. Additional analysis of the case: This includes national guidelines that were or should have been used to make diagnosis or treatment and review how they applied or how care was unique but based in guidelines.

3. Follow-up/Referrals: This means how the patient was doing when seen a second time if this applies. This would be their response to your plan of care. OR when Follow up will occur and what actions will be taken on the follow up visit. Referrals if indicated.

4. Quality: Include anything that should have been considered in hindsight or changes you would make in seeing similar patients in the future with the same complaint, history, exam, or diagnosis. Add anything you learned from discussion in the class that shed new light on this patient.

5. Coding and Billing. Any or all CPT and ICD-10 codes that should have been used (List them and name them only.

Submit an evidence-based practice paper about cultural competency in mental health nursing. An evidence-based practice paper allows you to explore best practices and help improve client outcomes on a psychiatric unit. Your paper should describe how you, as a nurse, will include – or have included – cultural awareness in a client diagnosed with a mental illness. The person you describe could be someone in your clinical setting, someone you have worked with in the past, or a theoretical client.

Remember that culture can also include gender equality, sexual orientation, and other cultures besides race and religion – including cultures unique to one particular family. Your paper should be at least 3 pages (double-spaced, not including the title or reference pages) in APA format and include:

• Assessment: Discuss what you would assess in regard to a client’s culture. For example, are there specific dietary requirements? Are schedule changes necessary to avoid conflicts with religious practices? Who is the spokesperson for the family? What would you assess?
• Diagnosis: List any mental health nursing diagnoses this person has or may be at risk for. Include at least one cultural diagnosis.
• Planning: What planning needs to be done to ensure the cultural and emotional safety of the client?
• Implementation: What are interventions that would ensure the safety of your client in regard to culture? Include at least two interventions. For example, if your client has religious beliefs that affect the ability to take medications, what interventions would you create to ensure the client’s safety? What can you do to make sure the client’s cultural needs are met?
• Evaluation: How will you evaluate whether your implementation was effective? Make sure the parameters are objective and measurable.
• In your summary, discuss whether any completed interventions were successful. What could be done differently in the future? If the interventions have not yet been carried out, you might discuss some institutional changes that could be made to ensure cultural safety for all clients in that setting.

Your paper should utilize proper APA guidelines and include at least three scholarly sources to support your paper. A scholarly source is a source that has been peer-reviewed and has appropriate authors that are credentialed.

Apply a model of cultural competence to personal practice beliefs. For this assignment:

1. Reflect on the 5 constructs of Campinha-Bacote’s model of The Process of Cultural Competence in the Delivery of Healthcare Services: Cultural desire, Cultural Awareness, Cultural Knowledge, Cultural Skill, and Cultural Encounters.
2. Review the Mission statements and values of St. Thomas University and its Nursing programs.
3. Reflect on your learning during this course.
4. Evidence of reflection on Campinha-Bacote’s cultural competency model and/or STU mission and values.
