These experiences come in the form of direct and indirect care experiences in which licensed nursing students engage in learning within the context of their hospital organization, specific care discipline, and local communities.

Begin the development of your PICOT question, using the following resources:

1. “Appendix A: Template for Asking Clinical Questions,” available in the textbook appendix

2. Text readings

Formulate your PICOT question and post it to the main forum. Respond to at least four other statements, providing feedback. Review the statements to see if the clinical issue is clearly defined and that all aspects are identified. Also refer to the “PICOT: Components of an Answerable, Searchable Question” table, located in chapter 2 of the text. If one PICOT statement has at least three feedback posts, move to another statement.

You will be using the feedback to make revisions to your PICOT question before using it in your “Section B: Problem Description” assignment.

Here is something to think about.  

· Population/ Patient Problem: Who is your patient? (Disease or Health status, age, race, sex)

· Intervention: What do you plan to do for the patient? (Specific tests, therapies, medications)

· Comparison: What is the alternative to your plan? (ie. No treatment, different type of treatment, etc.)

· Outcome: What outcome do you seek? (Less symptoms, no symptoms, full health, etc.)

· Time:  What is the time frame? (This element is not always included.)

Example: 

Prevention:

In acute care cancer patients, does the use of scheduled pain medication regimes reduce the risk of uncontrolled pain compared with non-scheduled pain medication regimes.

Discovering the right information to answer a given question often requires using more than one resource. When nurses explore only one resource and find no evidence, they may incorrectly assume that there is no evidence to answer their question. Additionally, when nurses search for randomized control studies to answer a clinical question, and use only web-based search engines they will not find the information they need and miss evidence that is crucial to their research.  Therefore, when searching for answers to clinical questions, all evidence should be considered; however, caution must be used when deciding about practice changes that are based solely on evidence that may have substantial bias.  

What levels of evidence are present in relation to research and practice, and why it is important regardless of the method you use?

In addition to the knowledge gained from clinical practice, nurses are compelled to create and use evidence from research when determining effective strategies for implementing change for improving care practices and patient outcomes.

Rebecca weaver said

The global nursing shortage, high nurse turnover rates, and increased difficulty of retaining new graduate nurses in acute care settings lead to my proposed capstone project initiative. Approximately thirty to seventy percent of new nurses leave their jobs or their profession within the first year of receiving licensure due to the stress level and overwhelming workloads and increasing demands they face (Ke, Kuo, & Hung, 2017). Thus, organizations need to look at ways to successfully transition new graduate nurses to the workforce and in turn increase retention rates. My current perspective related to the mentioned problem remains the same as it did previously.

The proposed solution to address this problem is the development and implementation of a formal unit-based preceptor program that guides the orientation process of new nurses in their work setting. Evidence-based research shows that effective, successful preceptorship is an integral source of knowledge and an essential educational component needed when orienting new graduate nurses and preparing them to work in the clinical setting (Ke, Kuo, & Hung, 2017). Quality preceptorship programs significantly increase critical thinking skills, competency, and problem-solving aspects, job satisfaction and retention rates (Ke, Kuo, & Hung, 2017). Therefore, I remain passionate about my project initiative, and my perspective is that a model unit-based preceptor program will significantly enhance the orientation experience of both the preceptor and preceptee.

Developing an Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) Project Question

Consider issues related to your nursing practice. What stands out to you about your specialty area? What questions or concerns do you think are especially in need of attention? Why? How would you most like to contribute to the knowledge base of your profession?

The EBP Project provides a significant opportunity for furthering the nursing profession. Formulating a specific, applicable question is a necessary first step for developing your project. The question defines the focus of the EBP Project and guides your selection of research methods and tools. Think about aspects of your specialty area and begin to formulate a question that relates to your nursing practice.

The primary purpose of this Discussion is to provide a forum in which you and your colleagues can support each other in cultivating a practice-related question.

To prepare:

  • Develop      your EBP Project question using the PICO (patient group, issue      or intervention, comparison, outcome) method as described in Chapter 2      of Clinical Research for the Doctor of Nursing Practice (p.      29) and other resources. Depending on your specialty area, you may modify      the PICO method as necessary to be appropriate for your target population.
  • Begin      to complete the “Literature Review Matrix,” reviewing at least four to six      research articles relevant to your specialty area and      your EBP Project question. Note any areas of difficulty that you      encounter, as well as any strategies or insights that might be beneficial      to others.
  • Reflect      on the information presented in the McCurry, Revell, and Roy article      listed in the Learning Resources.
  • What      questions or concerns, if any, do you have about how to develop your      project question and/or expand your expertise in your specialty area?

By tomorrow 08/28/18 10pm write a minimum of 550 words in APA format with at least 3 scholarly references from the list of required readings below. Answer the questions as numbered below:
